A Meeting Night (Muggle Pub in London)
(OOC: Combined threads from the previous site)
Marcus Linthux
Dressed in a stunning Muggle suit and coat by one of their top designers, Marcus had once again presented himself with class and an air of intelligence. He had taken his guest to one of the finer pubs that London had to offer to get acquainted with him, and now the two were making their way down a deserted sidewalk through the city to meet with the man that had his hand in everything. Since the Ministry had so many Aurors abroad searching for signs of the Seven, London was virtually deserted this evening. Marsden's Ministry informants had assured all of them that there would be no interference from the Department of Magical Law Enforcement. This was good for the evening's purpose, but it had been awhile since Marcus had confronted a Ministry official. Though he usually tried to avoid conflict, sometimes he missed parts of it.
Seeing a grate that was emitting steam, Marcus looked at his guest. "That would be the correct alley he chose," said Marcus calmly. He raised his right hand and snapped his fingers, causing the steam to stop coming. It slowly disappeared from the grate after about eight seconds. Once Marcus was satisfied, he led Artemis Ancarri across the grate to the alley. They were now standing between two abandoned buildings. Personally, Marcus wished that they had a better venue to meet at than this. Seven Deaths was only for those who were committed to their cause, however, so the meeting couldn't be held there. With the Aurors and TOE constantly on alert, it had to be somewhere that wouldn't attract much attention. Marcus looked forward to the day when hiding wouldn't be as big of a priority as it was at the moment.
Marcus turned to look at Artemis. "Daniel wanted me to extend our apologies about the meeting place," he said. "For obvious reasons, Daniel doesn't get out much, and when he does, he has to be careful about where he goes. We beg your forgiveness for the lack of luxury this alleyway has to offer."
Standing in silence for a moment, Marcus wondered where his master was now, and whether or not he had begun the journey. It seemed that Marsden knew what his old friend was thinking, because no sooner had he thought it that his left palm grew warm. He took his left hand out of his coat pocket and examined it. Though the hand was covered with a leather glove, Marcus didn't need to see what was under the glove to know what the signal meant. "I believe my master is going to arrive any second now. Once he does, I'll be returning to our headquarters.
"It was a pleasure to meet you, Mr. Ancarri. I hope our paths cross again." Marcus offered Artemis his hand to shake, clearly impressed by the vampire that stood before him.
Artemis Ancarri
So tired of being alone was Artemis that he'd finally put all of his efforts into locating Daniel Marsden and his Seven. It had been the whole reason that he had come to England in the first place. It seemed that the person who came to meet Artemis was intelligent and cared a great deal about his appearance. Artemis respec itd that as he too was highly educated and only wore the best clothes that his fast fortune could buy. Tonight, as usual, he was dressed from head to in a black Armani suit with an over coat the hung to is knees. The only exception was a white scarf the hung casually around his neck. It was more for show than anything else. There was not hot or cold for Artemis anymore.
The pub they visited was quaint. Artemis had envisioned them meeting in some seedy little backroom. He was grateful that it was not the case. He glanced around the bar, watching the mortal as he often did. Artemis had already eaten and would be fine a while. He would most likely need a snack after his meeting with Marsden. The vampire watch the man across from him eat and carried on a polite conversation with him. Artemis had a huge amount of respect for the witches and wizards. They were proof that humanity had much more to offer this world. It was a shame that like him, they had to live in secret.
Soon after leaving the pub the two men across a grate that was venting steam. Artemis glanced at Marcus when he spoke and then raised an eyebrow when the man snapped his fingers. After a few brief seconds the steam died down and Atremis nodded slightly to Marcus. As he stepped into the alley his earlier preconceived notion of meeting in a seedy backroom came rushing back to him. Although he understood the reasons he stil preferred some place more plush than a dingy back alley.
Artemis simply smiled slightly and nodded. He understood the dire need for secrecy. He understood what it was to move behind the scenes. This was not a game in which he was a beginner. "It is no problem, mon ami." He said in his light French accent. "This place is more than suitable for our needs. The location of our discussion matters not." Artemis smiled again as he slowly and patiently paced the alley. He liked to know everything about where he was and there wasn't a single detail of this alleyway that he didn't know. After a moment Marcus spoke again.
The vampire seemed to almost glide as he made his way back over to Marcus. He made a slight bow before reaching out and accepting the man's outstretched hand. "Thank you for the company tonight, Marcus. It was more appreciated than you know." Artemis smiled widely at Marcus. So much so that hint of his fangs could be seen. "The pleasure was all mine, Mr. Linthux. I'm sure our paths will cross again at some point. Until then." Artemis said and then released the man's hand. He turned and stood next to Marcus, awaiting the arrival of Daniel Marsden.
Sir Daniel Marsden
Daniel had personally made an inspection-visit to a Seven outpost in Ireland that evening, so he wasn't forced to apparate from Seven Deaths all the way to London. The outpost had been having problems with its workers' lack of communication between each other. Having been revolted when he saw the state things were in, it hadn't taken long for the station workers to grow silent and fearful as their leader paced around their work area. Daniel spent little time there, and after nearly making the station manager collapse out of fear from the talking-to he had given him, he had received the manager's word that he and the workers would triple their efforts and make things more productive.
It was because of all this that Daniel Marsden was less than thrilled about having more work to do that night. He was tired, annoyed with some wizards' incompetence, and wanted to return to his island manor to have a hot cup of tea in front of his living room fireplace. However, he wasn't about to quit the night so early. He had gone to great lengths to set up this meeting, and it was clearly important to the crime lord. Artemis Ancarri was, without a doubt, a powerful and respected vampire. It was important to Daniel that he and the Seven establish a friendship with Artemis, and later the entire vampire community. Artemis would be a powerful ally to the Seven, and would easily be face of leadership that encouraged the rest of his kind to join Marsden's cause to better the world they shared.
Crack. Daniel arrived promptly in the alleyway, anxious to get the meeting underway. He looked around at his surroundings, slightly showing his distaste for the meeting area they had chosen. He was used to things much finer than this, and he found it a real shame that a meeting with such an important person had to take place in the darkness of a dingy alleyway in a city composed of mostly Muggles. Hopefully Artemis understood Daniel's need for security.
Daniel spotted Marcus and Artemis immediately, pleased to see that they were on time. He walked over to them slowly, his footsteps echoing in the alleyway. Once he reached them, he looked at Marcus and gave him a nod of acknowledgment. He then turned to Artemis and bowed his head in respect.
"Mr. Ancarri," he said, slowly raising his head back up. "Thank you for meeting with me tonight. I trust that Linthux was able to keep you entertained until my arrival?"
Artemis
There wasn't much time for Artemis to become impatient. It wasn't long before there was a loud crack and a man appeared in the alley way. Artemis had a lot of respect for magic wielders. They proved that humanity had much more to offer the world. The man walked forward and bowed his head. Artemis returned the kind social gesture. Artemis glanced over at Marcus after hearing the query posed by the leader of the Seven. The vampire smiled widely and lightly chuckled. "Young Mr. Linthux here has been quite entertaining. I cannot say that I have been bored at all tonight." Artemis nodded his head towards Linthux. "That is not an easy feat." He said in aristocratic tone.
Artemis turned back to Daniel and devoted his full attention to the man. Someone who commanded that much respect deserved no less. "I must be honest with you, Daniel." He began in his light French accent. "I came to England in search of you. I've heard rumors of this organization. Everywhere I go on this island I hear your name. Always half whispered as if you were a god." Artemis cracked a small smile at the last statement. "I have been looking for you for a long time and now, out of the blue, you call on me." Artemis glanced from Marcus to Daniel. "Why?" He asked after a few seconds.
They had to know that if this was some kind of trap that they would still have trouble taking him down. Artemis believed that they were smart enough not to provoke him but everyone makes mistakes at some point. His first impression of Daniel Marsden was good one. He was obviously strong willed and powerful. Those were two traits that Artemis held in high regard. Artemis was very curious as to way Marsden called for this meeting. Maybe there was some mutual beneficial agreement they can come to.
Daniel Marsden
"I am very pleased to hear it," said Daniel. "Marcus here does know something about the good life in London, as I send him traveling quite frequently. However, right now, I wish to speak with you privately."
Looking at Marcus, Daniel nodded at him. "Leave us," he spoke. Daniel felt that it was best for him and Artemis to speak privately. If an alliance was to be formed, this would help them get better acquainted with each other.
Daniel turned back to Artemis, who spoke right after Linthux disappeared. When the vampire referred to him as a god, he smiled slightly. No, he didn't consider himself a god all that much. Perhaps someday, but not now. He felt that he was merely a man doing what was best for the world, and happened to be blessed as he did so. In his mind, he was doing what any good and decent wizard with such power would do.
"I assure you, Mr. Ancarri," he said softly, "I am no such god. I rather think of myself as someone who's bringing the world into its new evolutionary stage, causing as little trouble as possible while I do so. I am not a bad man; everything I do, I do to make this world a better place for everyone, whether they're wizards, vampires, or Muggles. I believe everyone can benefit from the use of magic.
"I apologize for my lack of subtlety, but I must ask this question. Are the rumors true that you hold wizarding kind in high regard?"
Artemis
Artemis chuckled in his head as he listened to Daniel talk. Hitler thought the exact same thing, he thought to himself as he observed the man closely. Artemis had spent most of his life trying to preserve life wherever he could. Lately he was starting to wonder why. He was a monster, a vampire. Damned in any language. Artemis forced a sigh from his lungs and ran a hand through his perfect brown hair. He was careful not to touch anything in alley as to not get anything on his Armani suit. "Making the world a better place? You have no idea how many times I've heard that." Artemis said softly.
Marsden's question surprised the vampire. It was true that he did hold wizards in high regard but was it something he should admit to someone like this? "I do." He said after a long moment of thinking. "I think it proves that humanity has more to offer than merely being cattle." Artemis nodded in the Daniel's direction. "You sir, are proof of that statement. No one as powerful as you would ever be content with an existence like that, would you?" Artemis quirked an eyebrow at the wizard and gave him a sly smile.
Artemis was becoming very curious as to where all of this was going. He hoped that this would not be a wasted night. There were very few things he hated more than wasting time. It was true that he was immortal and had all the time in the world but he felt that it was precious and should never be wasted. He also wondered how this somewhat mild mannered well spoken individual got the reputation that he seemed to have. There must be a far more sinister side to this man. Artemis certainly hope so, anyway.
Daniel Marsden
Smiling his approval at Artemis' question, Daniel shook his head. "Indeed I would not, Mr. Ancarri. Beings of intelligence were placed on this earth to rule over the rest of it. Not because we initially wanted to, of course. None of this happened by accident. It's destiny. I believe my destiny was written long ago, and it's to help those who are less fortunate than myself."
Daniel paused for a moment, thinking. He didn't say what he was about to say often, and it always made him a bit uncomfortable to do so. His past, after all, wasn't perfectly smooth, but was rather filled with an unfortunately memorable childhood and pain from the family he himself had started after he began to rise to power. The very thought of his late wife and his remarkable daughter always brought a twinge of sadness to his already cold and sinister heart. He reminded himself that he was telling Artemis to get his point across, not merely to make useless smalltalk. Artemis was an inelligent being; Daniel felt that he would understand where he was coming from. "Mr. Ancarri," he said softly, "I would like to tell you a story that began with me long ago.
"I am not the most easy man to deal with. I command the utmost respect from my people, and they pay dearly when they don't give it to me. One of my top agents a few years back made a slip of the tongue, and I instantly decided to make an example of him. If you get them alone, where they're sure they cannot be overheard, my followers will be the first to tell you that you should tread lightly around me.
"But there is also a warm heart inside me. I once had a wife, whom I loved dearly. I have a daughter, who doesn't know of my relation to her. Even though me being her father is last thought she would ever have, I am more proud of her than I can say. When I found out I was going to be a father, I was excited, like most fathers would be. I had a loving wife, and soon we were going to get to raise a baby girl together. Everything seemed perfect. But not terribly long before my wife gave birth to Jessica, we became aware of a potential problem. It appeared that my daughter's magic was very weak, even for a wizarding child still in the womb. I was informed by a very gifted and trusted seer that there was a great possibility that my daughter, whom I loved dearly ever since I found out she existed, would be born a Squib. Can you possibly imagine, Mr. Ancarri, how terrified I was? Knowing that my child would be forced to endure such trials and hardships for the rest of her life? Knowing that there was no way for me to give her the same opportunities I had as a child?"
Artemis Ancarri
Artemis wasn't entirely sure what the point of Marsden's story. He listened intently to the man in hopes to figure it out but he couldn't. "I can." Was all Artemis replied when the leader of the Seven directed a question towards him. Artemis stood there, still as a statue hoping that this was building to something. He glanced around the alley way and hoped that this wasn't turning into a huge waste of time. It was obvious that this man was powerful and commanded respect from many, many people. If Artemis wasn't careful, his entire species could face extinction at the hands of this man.
Artemis nodded slightly, encouraging Daniel to continue his story. Something inside him warned him that this was building to something big. Artemis wasn't exactly sure he would like it or not but he had to find out. His whole purpose for coming to England was to find Daniel Marsden. It was safe to say that his outlook on certain things had changed since his arrival on the island. Maybe we're not so different, Artemis thought to himself.
Daniel Marsden
Marsden nodded in response to Artemis. "That's the primary reason why I started my organization, Artemis. Squibs, Muggles; all of them are looked down upon by wizarding society. They know nothing but neglect, and sometimes cruelty from wizards. Their people have been shunned by my people, much to my dismay. And I want to help them. The fact that they are weaker than us is by no fault of their own. We are the superior beings; it's time for us to face them and take responsibility, instead of just trying to sweep them away like rubbish.
"Many of my followers don't know that I feel this way. Many of them will tell you that my goal is Muggle extinction, and to build a world consisting entirely of pure-blooded magical beings. They are gravely mistaken; never once, in all of my years of service to this world, have I said that Muggles should die. Why should they die? Because they were born with defects, like my daughter almost was? Because they were born that way and no one more fortunate than them wanted to offer help?" His voice, though still quiet as to not attract attention from someone, had raised slightly. Daniel was speaking passionately about a subject that always made him passionate. A subject that he very much believed in.
"I think you know, Mr. Ancarri, that I'm one of the few people who has a chance at providing a better world for everyone. And if you join me, and be my representative to your kind, there will be virtually no limits to what we can achieve." Now, his voice was back to its first tone and volume. Daniel was speaking as the powerful man that he was. "On my side, you will be part of the greatest movement in world history. I can show you things that you never imagined were possible. Things that I myself sometimes have difficulty in believing. All you have to do is help me. Help the world."
Artemis Ancarri
"What do my ilk and I get out of this?" He asked in a hollow tone as he started deep into the eyes of the crime lord standing before him. Artemis had made up his mind before ever setting foot in the alleyway tonight. With Marietta gone he had no one. Perhaps this man could be come the companion he'd grown to miss. His head crooked towards the entrance to the alley as his supernatural senses picked up on some passers-by. He breathed in deep as the smell of their blood and rhythm of their hearts called to him. It took a moment to get his thirst under control and when he did Artemis directed his attention back to Marsden.
"There is one thing you must know." He said in an even tone as he set his gaze on the man. "You are not my master. I will not address you as such." Artemis never blinked or looked away from Daniel Marsden. He had an enormous amount of respect for the man but he was not the least bit afraid of him. "As long as you understand this then I will present your cause to my people." Artemis gathered himself up to his full height and prepared himself for the worst possible reaction.
Daniel Marsden
"I didn't expect you to be, Mr Ancarri," Daniel spoke in a calm and chilling tone. Yes, Daniel's goal was to leave this earth as its ruler, but that time was not now. He had many steps and achievements to make before he put himself in power. "I am not looking to put your people in servitude. Not in the least. I have many followers, many of whom would lay down their life for me. Suffice it to say I am content with the servants I have; my people have loyalty that never wavers. You and your people might be different from myself and my people, but at the same time we are equals. I'm asking for your friendship and help, Artemis."
Daniel stood up. He could tell their meeting was ending soon, so it was now time to close the deal. "What can I offer you and your people? My answer to that is 'what did you have in mind?' I can offer you power, all the money you'll ever need, and people for you to make into your own kind. All I ask is that you help me make sure that no one has to worry about their child, as I did night and day for my daughter."
Daniel looked Artemis in the eyes as he extended his right, unmarked hand. "Artemis," he said softly, "life can be great if you know the right people."
Artemis Ancarri
"That's good, Daniel," Artemis said in a sinister tone. "Know that my people and I could cause quite a few problems for you plans should we feel we've been mistreated." Artemis looked at the crime lord for a moment. His gave was so intense that it was almost as if he was peering into the man's soul. A smile slowly crept across his lips and the vampire extended his cold hand. "My friendship and my help..." Artemis echoed Marsden's words slowly. "You have them."
With those three simple words Artemis had changed the fortunes of every vampire in world.
"With all due respect, I've been around for over two-hundred years. Money is not a concern of mine. I'm also a bit particular about who I choose to be a vampire. In all my time, I've only given the honor to one other." Artemis stopped as he thought of Marietta De Luca. She had been his companion for over a century. "Besides, favors are far more useful in these times. I will help you because you have impressed me. After all, I came to England to find you. I had to see what you were like," Artemis gave the man a genuine smile. "You did not disappoint me," he said softly.
Daniel Marsden
Marsden remained eerily calm and content at Artemis' warning, merely giving him a small smile and nod in return. Ordinarily, Daniel was not the type of man to stand by and take sentences that were that close to threats. This time, however, he appeared bothered by nothing. This was unusual for the crime lord, seeing as how he treated his followers at times. He knew he didn't have anything to worry about as far as the vampire community went. An alliance was what he had come there for, and he had received his reward in full. The fact that the vampires might feel "mistreated" was of no concern; he had legions of soldiers at his command, and more and more coming to him for training every day.
"My friend," said Marsden softly, extending his own and and shaking Artemis', "you have made a very wise investment for you and your people tonight. I would suggest seeking out your comrades to tell them the good news."
Despite being overjoyed at how well things went this evening, it was time for this meeting to end. "Nor you me," Daniel replied. "And there's nothing to worry about; the Seven can compensate its followers it many more ways than riches. Gold can only take you so far. With my connections, you'll be able to find anything you need. Or, anyone you need." Daniel gave Artemis a knowing look before turning around. He walked several feet ahead of Artemis before disapparating on the spot.

I can.
With all do respect, I've been around for over two-hundred years. Money is not a concern of mine. I'm also a bit particular about who I choose to be a vampire. In all my time, I've only every given the honor to one other. Besides, favors are more useful in these times. I will help you because you have impressed me. After I all, I came to England to find you. I had to see what you were like. You did not disappoint me.
