Over my shoulder (Unfinished, Elsewhere)
(OOC: combined threads from the previous site)
Alexis Toomney
Filthy!
There was no other word for it. To someone like Alexis Toomney, who was used to the finer things in life, her current living situation left much, much to be desired. She had done the right thing, she knew that now though making the decision at first had been one the hardest things she had ever done. To give up what she had...well that meant nothing short of death. Yes, she knew the risks she was taking when she decided to abandon Daniel and everything he stood for.
That did not make it any easier.
When she had first gone to the ministry begging for asylum, they were understandably wary of her. Why wouldn't they be? Here she was one of Marsden's top lieutenants, and she was suddenly showing up at their doorsteps claiming to have totally forsaken him. Who was to say that she was playing them all?
In the end, and after much persuading on her part, they believed her, though it was not without a large amount of mistrust. They had even agreed to put her in the WPP or the Wizards Protection Program. They would give her a new life, a new name, and send her to a very distant place. Which brought her to her current situation.
She thought that in some small way, the ministry was having a small laugh and perhaps getting a little payback for all she had done to them, not that she did not deserve it, but still, this was a bit much in her not so humble opinion. Alexis Toomney, who had been raised with the finer things in life and associated with only the highest of class, and who hated anything to do with those were not of the purest of bloods....was now living in a lower middle class blue collar suburb in the American city of Atlanta, Georgia...a MUGGLE suburb at that. Due to her current living conditions, she could not perform magic save in private, which was why, she was sure, that the ministry had chosen this particular location.
She was living in a modest one bedroom home in this place and she had even been given a job as a associate in a department store selling perfume to spoiled blond bimbos spending their husband's money while they worked. The very idea of a job made her want to vomit, but still, she was away from HIM and that was quite good to be going on with for the moment.
Still, she was living in fear. She knew that she had a death warrant on her and she slept very little these days, always looking over her shoulder for some invisible assassin that she always feared was right behind her. She was getting tired of this. This life was not much better than her last one. She was never one to live in fear and here she was doing that very thing. She loathed herself. There were even some nights where she thought that it might be better to be dead than to live the life that she was living. Sighing to herself, she got herself ready for another boring day at her dead end job.
Would this never end?
Daniel Marsden
Daniel paid the cab driver the fee, along with a very generous tip, and stepped out of the vehicle without another word. This had taken awhile, but things were finally falling into place. After much searching and spent recourses, Daniel had located Toomney's new place of residence, along with her new name. He walked down the sidewalk, wearing an expensive Muggle business suit and took in the sight of the neighborhood. He couldn't help but smile a little sinisterly at the irony. There were two things that were true for each Seven: they were evil, and they were wealthy. Marsden himself could easily have a 1000 galleon bottle of wine for each meal if he wanted to. All of his workers were very well paid for their assistance, and Toomney had been no different. Now, Marsden realized he might be too late; given her personality, she might have turned to suicide by now after living this way for five minutes.
Daniel reached the front door. He didn't bother to check if any passing Muggles were watching; should they alert their law enforcement authorities, he would kill them easily if he decided to stick around. By the time the American Ministry of Magic arrived, he would be back at the Goblin, having a celebratory glass of wine. He reached into his inside coat pocket and drew his wand. He waved it lazily in front of the door and heard all the precautionary locks click. Amused by how easily standard Ministry defensive spells were broken, he turned the door knob and entered.
The house was abysmal, to put it nicely. Had he not come their to repay Alexis for her betrayal, he would have felt sorry for her. It was a shame. When Doddridge was marked for death, she ran for it, rather than to remain loyal to the Seven and learn from her old partner's mistakes. Now, she was repeating the mistakes. And that was unacceptable.
Daniel eyed the wall from in front of him, hearing sound coming from it. Having been told that the bedroom was directly in front of the front door, he pointed his wand at the wall, ready to catch her by surprise. "Confringo," said Daniel, sounding eerily calm about the whole situation. The wall and door leading to the bedroom exploded with such force that the whole house shook. He stood there, his wand ready, waiting for the dust to clear so he could be reunited with someone whom he once held close to his heart. There was no choice but to face him. The Ministry would, no doubt, have placed anti-disapparation jinxes all over the area. She would not escape this time.
