To entrap a master of escape, the joy of the hunt (Unfinished)(Everywhere Els
Fai Sung
The never ending damp air had yet to dig beneath Fai’s skin. The city of London was not near as impressive as Dempsey had made it sound. Nevertheles it was this Dahana Gutierrez that was irritating Fai to no end. Every time he had the drop on that man Dahana was one step ahead. He considered that Dempsey had betrayed him, quickly threw the thought from his mind.
The mere thought ridiculous. Dempsey’s girlfriend was in the middle of pursuing a getting a divorce from this Dahana, and the ministry eagerly sought out this lunatic for reasons seemingly pointless to Fai. As far as Fai was concerned they could be after him instead. But no, instead the people of this frigid island nation had little knowledge of Fai Sung. He could thank his homeland’s inability to admit defeat for such freedom in Brittan.
Fai rounded a corner and immediately locked eyes with a man fitting the description of his target. There was no time to think. Who cared if the street was littered with witnesses this man’s life was the price of finding the only woman Fai could ever love.
Zhilan needed rescued from her banishment. A banishment he had caused. Even now Fai couldn’t figure out how they learned of her. He had been so careful not to involve her in his activities.
The man darted like a rabbit into an ally, but Fai wasn’t going to him lose him, not this time. Down a set of steps the man flowed like a deer, as if he had been raised by wild animals. It was not surprise that this Dahana would tower over Fai in combat, but that was the advantage Fai capitalized on with these westerners.
The man was nearly a block ahead when he dodged down the obvious steps of a transit station. But Fai had another trick up his sleeve. Down a connecting drain Fai snuck away from the many eyes perceiving their little chase. The putrid order didn’t bother Fai. He had survived in far worse circumstance. A train rattled through a tunnel nearby. This man was getting his nerves. How did Dahana even spot him? Therein lied Fai’s problem. Of course this man knew that he was hunted. He could not blame Dahana for running. It was Fai’s inability to use Dahana’s disadvantage against him. Fai reached a metal gate dividing the station from the tunnel he had scurried through. No, Fai had gotten complacent the moment he took control over Hong Kong’s criminal enterprise. Even worse, the servitude to the Seven offered tools, magical tools and training that had stolen time from his meditation.
Fai glanced around and immediately realized that the station was over filled with Auroras and other. Instead of allowing the knot in his gut tighten Fai raised his head and strolled right for Dempsey. If these British Auroras believed they could corner him, they would soon realize the cost of taking down one man against many. He glared at Dempsey, that traitor died first.
Dempsey locked eyes with Fai and immediately waved him over. Dempsey’s voice remained as smooth as the hiss of a snake with enough deception to prove the most complicated lie. He had to admire Dempsey for that.
“This is my counterpart from China. His name is Shun Lou, and we have teamed up to preserve our cover while amongst our foes.”
Fai quickly flowed along with the deception. “It is in the best interest of the ministry of China that we learn about such threats and prepare.” Before anyone else could reply Fai proceeded on. “The man named, Dahana Gutiérrez, is he within your custody?"
A man Fai apparently of higher position than Dempsey responded with in a dry tone. “Why he is not? What does interest does China have in this man?”
“China has no interest in Dahana, but the ministry is very interested in an associate of his?”
“Does this associate have a name?”
“Last name Sung, first name is speculated, as he is more of a ghost to Hong Kong than anything else.”
“Well, Dahana escaped our trap, and I have never heard of a Sung, either in connection to Dahana or otherwise.”
Fai bowed, “I am honored to have made your acquaintance, Dempsey believes that Dahana is receiving aid and I intend to locate Sung if he has escaped to England. In the best interests of our peoples I will notify Dempsey of my tracking success and he will inform me of yours.”
Dempsey faced Fai with that professional gaze and swagger of a man in full control of the situation. “Shun Lou is my honored guest. Bina will have prepared an award winning Mexican cuisine. For now Dahana has escaped. After we investigate the manner in which he teleported himself beyond our grasp, we will decipher a more definite trap.” Dempsey turned toward the other Auroras. “Time is extremely crucial in this matter because Dahana has it in his head to murder a young girl. It is blood hatred, causing this Dahana to annihilate a family over a foolish yet dangerous misunderstanding.”
Fai nodded in understand. Such a practice was easily within his realm of eliminating enemies within Hong Kong, and all of China for that matter. But only once had he ever found himself surrounded by Chinese government dogs. Amazingly enough that whole situation landed him in London England discussing apprehension of a man Fai would kill find a way to kill even if he was already locked tight in Azkaban. Whatever was spoken next was lost to him as he began to respect Dahana. That man took escape beyond art and into the realm of mastery. Dahana had graduated from an obstacle between him and Zhilan Wei to a Master of his art. He would have to salute this man before he ended the game. There was much to learn and Fai’s motivation accelerated into action.
“I must head to the ministry to finish my report, would you like visit?”
Fai shook his head and bowed. “Mexican food sound very good… now. I know my way to your flat, and will keep mention it to your beautiful… eh, mate.” He turned to the other auroras and fisted his palm and bowed. “It has been an honor, gentlemen.”
“The honor is ours, Master Lou.”
Fai turned and prepared to hope the train that had just arrived. It was headed straight for Dempsey’s flat. What if Dahana headed that way? Bina might find herself in need of assistance. Fai chucked. He was not known for such a deed, but for his Zhilan, Fai knew he should aid Dempsey’s, Bina.
That man was a novelty. Dempsey McBurr of the British Ministry of Magic, and loyal friend to Denial Marsden. Two which did Dempsey hold above the other? Nevertheless, the man’s commitment to both disproved a logical impossibility. Nevertheless, Fai preferred Dempsey as a casual friend over a suspicious enemy. Let Denial receive his wish and Dempsey float through the fine line of criminal and justice and Fai will bide his time, watching waiting and preparing for the day when he would rise to the top of a world leading organization with one objective. Topple the world powers throw the so called balance of power so far out of whack that it would take generations for the to regain strength. Rule the world, no, Fai had no grand expectations of such servitude. Absolutely not. No Fai would utilize the chaos and anarchy to build the most powerful criminal organization the world had ever seen while allowing the people fight with each other over how to set up new governments or kingdoms.
It was good to be the best, and with Zhilan by his side with her knowledge of magic and skill at combat, none could oppose them. Where would Dempsey stand in Fai’s limited friendship status?
Bina Guitierrez
The Kitchen was spotless, the aroma of enchiladas simmering in the oven filled the entire flat with a delicious aroma. Dempsey’s Spartan living space was only threatened by Ryan’s room. But that was off-limits to her cleaning specialties because Dempsey required the boy to pick up after himself. Nevertheless, Ryan wasn’t going to be home for several months and the clutter would remain for the entire time! Bina had to get her mind off of it or for the sake of organization she might accidently enter the boys room and god forbid she organize the clutter.
The door caught her attention as it rubbed jam while coming ajar. Bina swiftly prepared to greet Dempsey and his Chinese friend… associate, or whatever the Chinaman was. Dempsey sure had strange taste in friends. Though she had married Dahana and could not judge. But that chainman, something wasn’t right about him, or maybe something was too right. Either way he wasn’t the kind of person she wanted around often or worse, angry with her.
Bina turned the corner into the family room and gasped when her eyes found the man at the door. This was no short Chinaman! “What are you doing here Dahana?” Fear stunned and froze her still fully exposed to his first attack. She didn’t fall to the floor as she expected but she still winced in agronomy at the stinging pain of the whack against her face.
“I came to reclaim what’s mine! My so called friend Dempsey steels my wife.
Bina growled and confronted him. “He couldn’t have stolen me! I left you before anything ever happened between me and Dempsey.”
“So you admit it!”
“Of course! You’re a murder! A sick demented lunatic who snapped after the incident. We all hurt after that, but you Dahana, I stood by you long enough!”
The back of his hand slammed against her face sending her twirling into Dempsey’s glass liquor cabinet. Blood drained from varies slashes across her arms, but pure luck saved her life when her thick leather apron, special gift from Dempsey, stopped a large shard of glass from piercing into her chest. Bina took hold of the sharp weapon caring not if it sliced her hand. Before she could move to a defensible position Dahana was on her again, slamming her back into the wall and forcing more cuts gashes and punctures to her already shredded skin.
The door flew open granting Bina a precious break. Dahana snarled when he faced the door while holding Bina against the wall with one hand. Had he forgotten the kind of woman she was? Surely he remembered them play fighting in and wondering the wide open space of their people’s reservation in west Texas? Without time to consider his error and misjudgment she lashed out with the long shard of glass across his arm that held her. From the corner of her eye she saw the Chinese man leap over one of Dempsey’s couches. Her very own knight in shiny… well black tactical gear. But this was personal, only Dempsey would understand why she aimed for his throat and even though he slapped her hand, Bina was not to be denied. The swift agony of the glass slicing through the skin of her fingers that grasped large shard didn’t persuade her from shoving forward with all her might. However Dahana connected with the side of her head sending stars across her vision and she barely felt her body collide with the floor, with the exception of her breath forced from her lungs.
She opened her eyes, staring directly into a thoughtful and surprisingly handsome Asian man who was holding her shoulders to the floor… kitchen floor from way the tile rolled against her back. She tried to move again but he held her still. “Wha…”
“Silence. Stay calm and keep your eyes on me.” He turned from facing her and lifted one of her legs while wrapping what appeared to be cloth as tight as he could.
“You’re cutting off blood” Bina helplessly complained.
“That’s the point. I intend to take you on a journey, to meet the most powerful doctor I know. Fear not over finiances, he ows me a favor and. You’ll be healed and your beautiful skin as good as new.”
Bina shook her head unsure if she should be afraid or gracious.
He lifted her over his shoulder leaving her staring at his back or the floor, until they proceeded to magically move in a direction she hadn’t the faintest clue. To make matters worse an image of Dahana with one hand around his neck and another desperately swinging at her filterd in. blood was everywhere but was it hers or his or both. They exited abruptly and Bina dared to glance at her current location. It was worse than she feared. Men in yellow robes strolled casually across a dirt street and at a quick glance, they were all Asian, Chinamen! Of course he would bring her to China, but didn’t he understand that the ministry of magic was much closer from Dempsey’s London apartment?
“China” Bina forced the word from her mouth.
“Nepal” her rescue/kidnapper replied.
She was flipped over and onto a decently soft bed and Dempsey’s Asian associate raised a hand toward a wrinkled ancient appearing, yet very mobile man.
“This is Won Twan, and I am Fai Sung.” Dempsey’s associate bowed.
That name, “Fai Sung” sounded faintly familiar. She narrowed her eyes and struggled to remember where she had heard it but Fai remedied that puzzle in less than a breather.
“No healer in Hong Kong whether pharmaceutical, magical or both can provide kind of total reconstruction and blemish free artwork that this man is more than capable of. Fai stood walked a small circle and wore a large grin as if he had just figured out the recipe for sweet and sour chicken while holding pointing a finger at various men in yellow robes. “This is a sanctuary of peace. Nowhere in the world is there a place such as this.
All at once it hit her like a brick. “You’re that guy from Hong Kong. The notorious Chinese gangster said to be responsible for the deaths of thousands in the worst criminal gang violence Hong Kong has ever seen.” She noticed that Fai allowed a slight smirk to improve his serious face. She could hardly believe it. “Its said your to blame for other deaths worldwide.”
Fai chuckled and Bina couldn't tell f it was from irony, joy or sorrow. But when their eyes met she quickly self conscious toward an expression she was known to show. Both Dempsey and Dahana called it adorable but her parents named said it made her look naive. Bina closed her eyes and turned away. Dahana had murdered innocent people over pointless hate but this man had murdered much more for the shear profit of it. She remembered a school trip to Hong Kong years back. His was heard all over Hong Kong and was synonymous with Kidnapping, torture, and death. Dahana was a murder but this man’s was considered one the most ruthless blood thirst …
Fai did not move or show emotion. His eyes didn't waver. She realized now that this man feared nothing.
He nodded. “I see my name carries weight, even in the back baron back country of west Texas."
How did know about West Texas. Bina. tried to frown but a dumbfounded speechlessness took hold of her tongue. West Texas needed removed from this murders speech. Bina took control pf her nerves and flipped the subject. "A name but never a face. Like a ghost.
That made him smile even wider.
“So what happened to the bloodthirsty Triad boss who spread fear from Hong Kong to Beijing? I heard you had even focused your eyes on Tokyo and Singapore.”
Fai shook his head and leaned back taking it in like compliment. Bina hoped she had earned another few breaths of life.
“Tokyo, maybe, but I have no grand dreams of ruling a perfect peaceful world. Russia, China, America, and Columbia are ripe for the rushing. From the moment my parents died from Chinese government chemical tests, to knowing that the only woman I have or will ever love was banished because of me. No, I rose from the ashes, and the forced labor schools of Shanghai. From eating rats on the streets of Hong Kong to organizing the deliverer of cocaine to America... from Hong Kong! From stuck in the gutters to be chauffeured in Moscow, to rubbing shoulders with the powerful in New York.” He leaned toward her “Rubbing cheeks and sharing kisses with the stars in LA. But nothing gave me more pleasure than the head of Tokyo's underworld declaring allegiance to, me! No I have no grand scheme of ruling a country. No, I will fight to see the day when they all crumble. When chaos spreads like a wild fire across the earth. Then I will make my mark, then I prove my strength. Then the mightiest and the fearless well see me at the top, me being the best, the most powerful. Very very few have ever seen the face and the name together and most of are dead! Let the weak die in their despair because, I will die in glory when all see that Fai Sung conqured them with their own greed, with their own pride and it will be I alone left to snicker.”
The pure intensity in his face terrified Bina. “What about this woman you love, would you want her to be hurt?”
“Zhilan is not weak! As I can also see that you are not. As I said this is a peaceful place. Not even I would dare entere a fight in this sacred place.”
Bina's brows rows. Fai Sung believed in something, sacred?”
Fai turned and strolled out.
