The Man's Attention(Flo,Jonathan,Tarik)(Muggle Studies)(Unfinished)
Flo Richards
Class had just ended. The last of the students were heading out the door.“Silvia, could you do me a favor please?” she asked Silvia Sadaki, one of her brightest students and her sister-in-law. Flo was a widow and had been married to Silvia’s much older brother.
Silvia picked up her messenger bag and waved to a couple of the other students. When she heard Professor Richards, Flo call her she went to the Kitchen area where the professor was finishing up some cleaning. All the students cleaned up after themselves, but Flo preferred to put her own things away.”I would be glad to help,” she said with a big smile as she rounded the work counter.
“Could you please take this banana bread to your father? I promised it to him yesterday but we seem to be going in different directions lately.” Silvia’s father was also Flo’s father-in-law.
Silvia took a sniff. “Smells delicious….” Then with a twinkle in her eye she added, “Maybe I can get him to share.” Flo smiled because Tarik would give his kids anything he could. If she wanted the whole loaf he would hand it over to her. She had jokingly asked him to stop by for cooking lessons once, and he laughed and told her every time he tried to help Sasha cook something always went wrong, so he tended to stay out of the kitchen. Flo had just chuckled.
“Thanks sweetheart.” Silvia put the banana bread loaf in her messenger bag and headed out the door. Just as she was going out she ran into Mr. Jonathan Clausen coming in the door. “Excuse me sir, I did not see you,” Silvia said after slightly bumping into the man.
"You need to watch where you are going, young lady.” Jonathan said sternly.
“Yes, sir. I will,” Silvia said and turned one more time to wave at Flo before heading out the door.
Flo continued to watch Mr. Clausen as she finished wiping down the counter. He just stood by the door, staring at her. She turned and rinsed out the cloth in the sink against the back wall and laid it over the edge of the sink to dry. When she turned back around she realized Mr. Clausen had moved and was now standing at the end of the counter. He was still staring at her. Flo walked back over to the counter and asked, “Can I help you with anything Mr. Clausen?”
Two days earlier Jonathan Clausen had a run in with several of the professors and the Head of Security at the school. Since then he had been kept busy by them and their appointed watch dogs. Jonathan had finally insisted on a break and it had been granted. During his short stay at the school, only three days now which seemed a lot longer, he had noticed a very beautiful Professor. After making some casual inquiries, he discovered she was a widow, and had been for about 14 years. Jonathan prided himself on being able to handle widows who tended to “need” someone. And he was happy to be that someone. With a few well chosen words, he usually could draw them willingly into his world. This beauty would be a great addition to his collection of conquests.
Bowing gallantly to Flo he said, “Ah, good I see you remember my name. We have not been formally introduced, my fair lady, but I could not help but notice your beauty from afar.” Jonathan added a large smile. Taking a couple of steps closer, he picked up Flo’s hand from the counter and kissed the knuckles, then looked up at her as he straightened back up.
Flo smiled not because she liked the attention but she realized this man was being ridiculous. He was an over-grown pompous ……she refused to finish the statement in her mind. She decided to play along a bit to see how far he would go in a farce he had to know existed. “Ah, kind sir, thank you for your kind words.” Flo gently removed her hand from Jonathan’s and casually turned to walk down to the end of the counter. She wanted to put some distance between herself and Mr. Clausen. He was making her nervous.
Jonathan smiled, because it looked like he woman was going to be an easier conquest than he thought. She was already smiling at him and had accepted his comments. He followed her around the counter and still stood close to her. “I have decided to learn more about the Muggle way of life… and I thought you would help me.” Again he smiled and touched her desk, not to look at anything in particular but to allow him to even get that much closer without drawing too much attention to what he was doing. He was wondering how long he should wait before he tried for the first kiss.
Flo had made it to her desk and realized Mr. Clausen was following close behind her. The man was not taking the hint, she was playing a game with him. He was becoming dangerous. “Um,” she started while taking a few more steps back and pretended to clean the board behind the desk, “I would be glad to help you” she tied to lie convincingly.
Jonathan reached out and touched Flo’s arm and said, “Thank you my lady.” Then looking as dejected as he could he said, “I know I have not made many friends since I have been here, but I am hoping we can be friends.” While making this statement he softly rubbed Flo’s arm. He was fighting the compulsion to smile broadly. He had made physical contact and she had not run away, she was signaling him to continue.
Flo was having a hard time not being sick. This man was actually flirting with her. She did not want to slap him because she had not had a chance to discuss him with her father-in-law. She knew there had been some problems in Marco’s office and Brennan, Head of Security had to be brought in, but she did not want to make an enemy for the school, if they had, it under control. Carefully she picked up some folders off of her desk and walked over to the file cabinet to pretend to file them. It gave her something to do while she asked, “What would you like to know first, Mr. Clausen?” Purposely she did not use his first name.
Jonathan saw how coyly Flo was acting. Apparently she did not want to seem over eager. But he could play the game also. When she finally gave in it would be that much sweeter. He slowly followed her over to the file cabinet. Placing one hand on top of it and the other at his side, he waited for her next opening. His clinched and unclenched his fist because his hand itched to touch her again. Basically he had her hemmed in to a corner.
Flo was beginning to really get scared at this point. In her eagerness to put some distance between them she had not been very careful on where she walked to. Now she was blocked from escaping, without physically pushing him out of the way.
Flo looked over toward the Kitchen area, hoping Mr. Clausen would take the hint she needed to return to there. If he did not move soon she would be forced to physically push him out of the way. She did not want to create a scene but she was getting angry and worried if she did something the man could create problems for the school or her family. Usually it did not take her so long to discourage unwanted advances. This man was just too stupid to take the hint.
(OOC: Silvia and Jonathan Clausen are two of my characters.)
Silvia Sadiki
Silvia loved doing favors for her older sister-in-law. During class she and her twin brother Mika, were careful to treat Flo as a professor. Their entire group of friend knew the relationship, but Silva and Mika had decided between them that it would not be respectful to flaunt the connection. In private moments, it was a different story, and Flo had become a much loved sister and confidant to Silvia.
“It will not be a problem. I am between classes at the moment as I know father is and I was heading to his office anyway.” Silvia said with a large smile and the ever present twinkle in her eyes.
Silvia was putting the messenger bag on her shoulder and turned to wave one last time to Flo, when she bumped into Mr. Clausen. He had only arrived three days ago, but the Core had already had a lengthy discussion about him. The man had scared Star in Professor Spellman’s office and the group had found out Brennan was needed to help take care of him. They were all on high alert where he was concerned. The rule especially for the younger members of the group was, “if you saw him, walk the other way and never be alone with him.”
Before Silvia left the classroom she took a side-long glance in Flo’s direction. Receiving a nod and a shoo signal from her sister she left and headed for her father’s office.
Knocking she entered, and found her father seated behind his desk, with Marshall her nephew, who was a year older than her, and her twin brother Mika standing in front of the desk leaning forward examining an item her father had in his hand. When her father’s face lite up and he motioned her forward, Silvia waved at Marshall and Mika who both stood up straighter and waved back.
Silvia walked around the desk as her father continued his discussion. He was talking to Marsh and Mika about Mr. Clausen’s first day at the school and showing them how to put a statue spell on an item. The man had touched some of her father’s things, which he kept in Professor Spellman’s office and had been frozen by the Statue spell. Silvia had heard a lot of the story from her friend Star.
She waited for her father to put the small statue down and then she hopped into his lap. The first time she had jumped in his lap he had looked at her rather strangely, because he was not used to it. Now he would think something was wrong if she did not get in his lap and give him a hug.
Smiling she reached into her messenger bag and pulled out the loaf of banana bread. Lowering the bag next to her father’s chair she said, “Flo sent this to you father. It may be a little squished because when I was leaving class I bumped into Mr. Clausen entering the room. I do not like that man….he makes me feel funny and scared at the same time.” As she laid her head down on her father’s shoulder, she noticed both Marshall and Mika were in agreement with her as they nodded their heads. She had learned to love her father dearly
Tarik Sadaki
Tarik had just finished talking to his son Michaki and his grandson Marshall about what had happened the night of Sorting. Upon hearing a knock at the door, Tarik saw the look on his son's face. Smiling, Tarik picked up a statue and started explaining how to put a “Statue Spell” on it. The boys, especially his son was feeling bad as it was about that night. Tarik saw no need for anybody else to know about their talk.
Tarik smiled as he saw his daughter Silvia. “Boys, now remember...do not use the spell on anything that is not yours. Are we Clear?”, Tarik said calmly. Then to make sure the boys knew the correct way to say the spell, he handed them each a book as he said, “Practice on these.” Smiling as he figured they were a long way from actually getting the spell to actually work.
Smiling as he motioned Silvia forward as he said, “Do you want to try Silvia? It is the Statue Spell.”
Still smiling as he worked with the boys to get the wording just right.
Putting the statue down, Tarik smiled as he tapped his leg. This had become a ritual between Silvia and him.
Michaki gave a wink to Marshall as he said teasingly, “Marshall, I think Silvia is being daddy's little princess again. Maybe that is why she not grounded?”
Tarik laughed as he heard his spit-fire of a daughter tease her brother right back. He had last term misunderstood these japs that his twins did. It took him almost a month before either of his children would speak to him. After that Tarik understood that Silvia didn't like anybody fighting her battles for her. Smiling as he said softly, “So much like her mom. At least now I understand why Sasha never told me...She wanted to deal with him herself.”
Tarik smiled as he said, “Boys, I know Sasha said no treats but I will make an exception on the condition that you both give your word...that one, you two never scare Tia like you did that night and two, Sasha never hears about it.”
He cut the bread into four pieces as he thought about how to handle Jonathan. He was still furious with the man but realized he needed to show the children the proper way to handle it.
Smiling after that ate their pieces, he said as calmly as he could, “A proper Magi always personally thanks somebody who has given them a gift, like the banana bread. Now would be the time to go and thank Flo for her gift.”
With that he hugged his daughter and said, “Thank you, Silvia.” Then he got on his Magi robes as he headed for the door, saying, “Coming?”
Tarik knocked on the door to Flo's classroom as he said, “Flo, it is me, Tarik.”

FLO
Turning and opening the file cabinet drawer, Flo tried to pretend she was looking for something special. She could feel her face getting red with anger. Taking out a file without looking at its title she closed the drawer and put her free hand up to gently push the man out of the way. She would explain to her father-in-law later if he Mr. Clausen took exception to being pushed out of the way. Just as she almost made contact with the man’s arm, she heard a knock at the classroom door. She had not closed it, so Mr. Clausen must have magically closed the room.
When she heard her father-in-laws voice, she hoped he had not locked it.
Looking at Mr. Clausen and lowering her hand she said with a big smile on her face, “Looks like we have company. Excuse me please while I answer the door. Toward the door she said, “Come in. The door is open.” At least she hoped it was.
Flo watched as the latch lifted and then……
Jonathan Clausen
Turning and opening the file cabinet drawer, Flo tried to pretend she was looking for something special. She could feel her face getting red with anger.
Jonathan watched as she turned away. Her face had turned a pretty shade of red, meaning she was embarrassed. He had found out when she was younger she had been married for a very short time, but as far as anyone he had talked with knew she had not been attached since then. Jonathan hoped this meant she was not very worldly, which would make his overtures much easier to make her believe.
He watched as she put her hand up looking almost embarrassed to be touching him. Just as he started to take a step closer there was a knock at the classroom door. She did not have a class at the moment, that much he had checked on, so who was disturbing a teach with a closed door.
Jonathan still kept his arm on the wall and blocked Flo in the corner, but he turned his eyes toward the door and said, “Do not answer; maybe the man will go away.” Flo’s smile had grown bigger so she also hoped the Amir would leave them alone. When her face grew redder, it confirmed she knew what he had planned and was embarrassed to have the meeting broken up.
Jonathan did not remove his arm. The Amir would just have to learn he was not in control of all situations. The man really needed to learn his place.
Marshall Smith
When Marshall had first heard he and Mika were grounded, because they had pulled the trick on Tia, he had thought it was the worst thing. They had not been yelled at but his grandfather could make him feel very bad, by just talking with him in that low serious voice he used. He hated to disappoint his grandfather. The punishment had turned out to be fun, although he would never admit it to his grandmother, Sasha. If he told her he enjoyed it, she may never do it again.
Marshall looked at his book and then looked over to look at the one Mika had received. They were identical and had Rune writing on the outside for a title. Marshall made out the word spells, then looked inside. It was a book of spells, but not from nothing like they were learning in school. Studying the table of contents he noticed it was divided up by regions in Egypt and the Western part of Europe. Marshall returned Mika’s smile as they both realize at the same time it was Egyptian spells, probably including some very old spells.
Marshall had caught the wording of his grandfather as he said softly. ….
He wondered who his Grandmother needed to deal with which had his grandfather worried.
When Silvia, who was actually one year younger than him and was his Aunt, because Marshall’s mother Flo had been married to her much older brother, came in and said she had run into Mr. Clausen, Marshall made a face of disgust. He tried to like the man, because you should never judge someone quickly, but the man made him feel nervous.
Marshall added his smile to Silvia’s and Mika’s. They had really felt sorry when they had seen how frightened Tia had become after their little prank and had agreed between them never to frighten her themselves again or allow anyone else to, if they could help it. Keeping a secret from Grandmother though felt strange and almost exciting. Marshall realized if it was important for his grandmother to know the secret, his grandfather would tell her.
One of the best things about being grounded in Grandfather’s care was you always were able to still do things. A trip to the Muggle Classroom meant time to use the fun equipment his mother had installed. He especially liked the driving game and the pretend sky sloop.
Marshall looked at his grandfather with a question in his eyes. His grandfather had put on his formal Magi robes not just the school Professor robe. Whatever they were going to do in his mothers classroom, was going to lead to something official eventually.
Marshall had walked slightly ahead of the others. There was no special reason, it just made him feel like he was taking everyone to see his mother. As he reached the door he heard voices inside so he waited for his grandfather, Silvia and Mika to catch up. “Someone is talking to Mother. I can hear their voices.
Marshall had very good hearing. When he and Mika went on one of their adventures he was usually the lookout because he could hear people coming a lot sooner than Mika could. He knew he should wait for his Mother to say come in but his hand was on the door lever before he heard her say come in. His grandfather had reached down to stop him but he pushed ahead anyway.
When he entered he looked in the direction of his mother and said, “Get away from her. Leave her alone.” He would have ran to attack the man but instead he pulled out his wand and was about to see what he had learned in Defense Against the Dark Arts Class, when his grandfather grabbed his wand arm stopped him. Only his great respect for his grandfather stopped him from fighting. Marshall said to his grandfather, without taking his eyes off of Mr. Clausen, “He was preventing her from opening the door. He needs to get away from her.”

She did not want to create a scene but she was getting angry and worried if she did something the man could create problems for the school or her family. ….. This man was just too stupid to take the hint.

Tarik knocked on the door to Flo's classroom as he said, “Flo, it is me, Tarik.”
Taking out a file without looking at its title she closed the drawer and put her free hand up to gently push the man out of the way ….. Just as she almost made contact with the man’s arm, she heard a knock at the classroom door.
He watched as she put her hand up looking almost embarrassed to be touching him. Just as he started to take a step closer there was a knock at the classroom door. She did not have a class at the moment, that much he had checked on, so who was disturbing a teach with a closed door.
Tarik knocked on the door to Flo's classroom as he said, “Flo, it is me, Tarik.”

Flo watched as the latch lifted and then……
Marshall Smith
Tarik picked up a statue and started explaining how to put a “Statue Spell” on it. The boys, especially his son was feeling bad as it was about that night. Tarik saw no need for anybody else to know about their talk.
Tarik smiled as he saw his daughter Silvia. “Boys, now remember...do not use the spell on anything that is not yours. Are we Clear?”, Tarik said calmly. Then to make sure the boys knew the correct way to say the spell, he handed them each a book as he said, “Practice on these.”
“So much like her mom. At least now I understand why Sasha never told me...She wanted to deal with him herself.”
He wondered who his Grandmother needed to deal with which had his grandfather worried.
(Silvia) “…… I bumped into Mr. Clausen entering the room. I do not like that man….he makes me feel funny and scared at the same time.” As she laid her head down on her father’s shoulder, she noticed both Marshall and Mika were in agreement with her as they nodded their heads. She had learned to love her father dearly.
Tarik smiled as he said, “Boys, I know Sasha said no treats but I will make an exception on the condition that you both give your word...that one, you two never scare Tia like you did that night and two, Sasha never hears about it.”
He cut the bread into four pieces as he thought about how to handle Jonathan. He was still furious with the man but realized he needed to show the children the proper way to handle it.
Smiling after they ate their pieces; he said as calmly as he could, “A proper Magi always personally thanks somebody who has given them a gift, like the banana bread. Now would be the time to go and thank Flo for her gift.”

One of the best things about being grounded in Grandfather’s care was you always were able to still do things. A trip to the Muggle Classroom meant time to use the fun equipment his mother had installed. He especially liked the driving game and the pretend sky sloop.
With that he hugged his daughter and said, “Thank you, Silvia.” Then he got on his Magi robes as he headed for the door, saying, “Coming?”
Tarik knocked on the door to Flo's classroom as he said, “Flo, it is me, Tarik.”
