Gryffindor Table (Gryffindors Only!)
(OOC: Combined threads from the previous site)
Sasha McChey
Students who are Bold as a Lion at this table you should post. The Noble house of Gryffindor, though if you are a first year please post in the Sorting Ceremony thread so the hat can place you before posting here.
Starling MacStone
Starling sat with the rest of the fourth years about in the middle of the long table. She liked opening ceremonies. The first years were always fascinated and scared as they walked through the great doors. This year Star could not concentrate on the opening ceremonies completely. She had so many thoughts running through her head.
It would be the first year she had a real boyfriend. His name was Luke Wright and he was a Ravenclaw. He had been through a lot last term, and he had told her more than once, having her as his girlfriend made getting through the bad times easier. They had continued their constant letter writing through the summer months. Star’s mother had asked if Luke was “special” and she had told her mother about what it was like to be around him. Her mother had told her to make sure she explained Luke to her father. Star had not been worried about telling her father, because she knew he loved her. All he had said was, he expected to meet the young man soon. Star had written the suggestion to Luke but he had never written back with any kind of definite time.
At the moment she was worried about Luke and a few of the other Core Members. Silvia Sadiki had come running up when they were standing outside waiting for the doors to open to the Great Hall so the older students could enter, and said Mika, her twin brother and Marshall Smith, had run off exploring and had not returned. Tia, their leader, had told Starling and Silvia to stay behind, so someone would be there to signal if they returned. Everyone else was sent in different directions to search for the two young Sherlock’s with the main part of the search toward what was left of the Forbidden Forest after the fire last term, which destroyed about 80% of it.
No one had returned and almost all the teachers were seated at the moment. Star kept looking at the main door and at Silvia. Silvia looked as worried as Star felt. She did not care if Marshall was Professor Richard’s son or if he was Professor Tarik Sadiki’s grandson, she was going to give him a piece of her mind. He was one year older than Mika Sadiki, and he needed to start acting like it.
Star turned and looked at the Staff Table. Professor Greene caught her eye and she tried to turn away as quickly as possible. He knew something was up and he knew Star knew something. Then she saw Horus, Tarik’s falcon, fly out of the room. The professors were catching on, “this is not good” she thought to herself. Just as she looked over at Silvia, who was pointing at the wall behind Star, she felt a tap on her shoulder.
Half turning and looking up, she found Professor Spellman standing behind her, motioning for her to follow him. Slowly she got up, shooting a glance at Silvia and followed Professor Spellman to a corner behind the Staff table.
“Star,” Marco started when they had reached the spot of semi-privacy, “there seems to be several students missing from the ceremonies. If I am calculating it right, they are all Core members.”
Looking at the floor and shuffling her feet slightly Star answered, “Yes sir.”
Marco tried not to smile; Star was trying her hardest to protect the others. Marco had made Star his assistant in History of Magic’s, last term because she was smart, ambitious to learn and loyal to a fault to those she cared about. She could keep a secret. One other thing he knew, she never lied. She would not volunteer information, but if you asked the right question and phrased it correctly you could find out what you wanted.
“Star, I have learned while you were my assistant last term and taking the extra lessons you would not want you to break a confidence, and you also know we had some major trouble last term. Most of the facility knows the trouble has not ended and we are extremely worried about all the students. We cannot have students wondering around without knowing where they are. Do you understand?”
She understood. Professor had used the words, “assistant last term and taking the extra lessons”, he had not said this term. Starling wanted both of those things very badly to continue because she wanted to teach History of Magic’s someday and even be an archeologist with her own digsite. She was worried about everyone so she said, “I do not know where they are, but I know they went looking for Marshall Smith and Mika Sadiki. Silvia said they had left earlier this afternoon and had not been seen since. The others went looking for them. We were told to wait and signal the others if they returned. Professor, don’t be mad at them. This is just something we do to protect each other.” Starling hung her head, because she felt like a traitor, but the others would understand she hoped.
Seeing how the young Gryffindor felt like she had betrayed her friends, Marco said, “It is ok Star, we just need to get some adults into the search.” Taking her chin with the tips of his fingers, he raised her head so she would look at him. “After all, we can go some places you all cannot right. We want to help. Now return to your seat and keep a watch out for those two, Ok?”
Star weakly smiled and returned to her seat. Some of the other students wanted to know what the professor wanted and if she was in trouble. She tried to brush it off as much as possible and join in the general conversation. The large wooden doors had opened and the first years were entering the hall. Star listened with interest to see who would be chosen to sit at the Gryffindor table.
