The dart board spoke to his eyes in calculating slices. As if he could pin point any place on the board and zero his dart at that exact location. Ellery had already moved the line back for his throwing position placing him on the other side of the room and over half the original distance that normal competition standards placed expert dart players. But this had really intrigued him. In the two years since he met the strange Chinese aura Ellery had honed skills that felt natural to him. Maybe it was magic? No, the master had revealed his ability with magic, but at very sparing use. In fact, Ellery was forbidden to use magic during training.
He brushed that aside as he launched the dart across the room with only the bulls-eye capturing his vision. A roommate could have entered and Ellery would not have noticed within the fraction of a second it took to hone his target and release the missile. Nevertheless, his target was true. Still, in his master’s eyes, any loss of awareness to surroundings was failure, and failure was death, or for Ellery extra training.
He closed his eyes but retained the direction and image of his target. This time he released but was aware of the slightest change in the room allowing not the buzz of a bee at the window sill to detour his path. When just before the dart released from his fingertips the door flung open with well-placed footsteps that he knew belonged to one of his closest friends. Too late to retain dart but not to change its path from the unsuspecting bystander. A quick twist of his wrist clipping the bake fins of the dart should have been enough. Ellery kept his eyes closed in fear of a painful moan but a clean thud told him all was well. He opened his eyes and marveled at his still accurate aim. However his roommate did not appear impressed. That was a flaw he had to overcome. But his master had taught him to utilize other unique talents.
