Finding What the Rose Needs to Grow
(Richard, Tarik, Darik, invite)
(OCC: A older threads have been combined to form a story)
Richard was still making the rounds on gathering information about young Rosabelle Fairmont. He had talked to her godfather Gab Lupin and now he was headed for a talk with Tarik, the Runes History Professor. Sasha the Deputy Headmistress, and Richards’s very old friend gave Tarik the highest recommendation on being able to help. When Richard had seen him at the Sorting Ceremony Staff Table, he had watched and felt confidence in the man. Richard was glad Sasha had found someone like him to share her life.
During a meeting with Rosa, Richard had gotten her to admit, she thought she was the reason her mother was killed, or at least her magic was the reason. She also had said she thought she was the reason other people had died. One thing Richard was hoping to find out from Tarik was what would make a girl think she was going to turn into a Phoenix. Apparently her mother, who was a Seer, had told Rosa she would become a Phoenix someday. Richard thought she had been talking metaphorically, but he needed some background on possibilities. Tarik was known to have large amounts of knowledge in related areas. Richard hoped he would know something, anything he could use to help the frightened child.
He had asked for a four o’clock appointment, because all classes would be over and there was still hopefully time for Tarik to take care of any end of the class day duties. Richard’s last class had been at 2’oclock. He had gone back to his room to freshen up so he could make a good appearance. There had not been much time to talk with Tarik before this meeting, just the very general “Glad to have you here,” sort of stuff. Tarik was many years older than Richard and had taught more years than him, and Richard was having a hard time shaking the feeling he was going to the principal’s office. When he had more years experience of being in the school, teaching and not sitting behind a desk listening, he hoped the feeling would past. It was a strange feeling and not very comfortable.
Unconsciously, standing in front of Professor Tarik’s door, Richard straightened his house robe and made sure the crease in his pants legs were straight. Consciously he chided himself for acting like a first year. Smiling and shaking his head a bit at his silliness he knocked.
(OOC: Stated information gathered from other threads)
Tarik Sadaki
Tarik had glared at the Caretaker. How dare the man enter this office without Tarik's permission? Well Mr. Mirabeau had gotten more than he bargained for. Tarik glanced at his clock and realized that the spell would be wearing off anytime. The Medjai planned on giving him an ear full about ever coming into this office without Tarik being here. The statue spell was only on certain items of Tarik's and none of those items, Anthony had any business touching.
The Amir had to deal with this problem because in a few minutes the HOH for Hufflepuff would be here. Richard Greene had requested to talk about one of the Hufflepuff student and Tarik had a feeling it was Rosa. He didn't want Anthony Mirabeau anywhere near that meeting as the Caretaker had already shown that he was not to be trusted.
Just as he heard the knock that told him Greene had arrived, the spell on Anthony lifted. Turning on Anthony as he unlocked the door, Tarik said angrily, "Next time, you even think about coming in my office without me being here Mirabeau, Remember what happened! You were lucky this time as it was only a Statue Spell that you encountered. Some of the stuff in my office can and will kill you. NOW GET OUT and STAY OUT!"
He watched as Anthony glared at him with venom as the man ran from the room, nearly knocking Richard down.
The return look from Richard was interesting. After Tarik was sure that the Caretaker was long gone, he smiled as he said, " Richard, please enter and make yourself comfortable. You wished to talk about one of your students, probably Rosabelle?"
(OCC: Anthony is one of my characters, so I stated his actions here.)

Richards knock brought what sounded like yelling from inside Tarik’s office, he wondered if he should leave. Before any decision could be made on the point, Anthony came bolting out of the office. If Richard had not been quick to side step he would have been thrown up against the wall of the hallway. It was an interesting way to start a meeting.
The return look from Richard was interesting. After Tarik was sure that the Caretaker was long gone, he smiled as he said, "Richard, please enter and make yourself comfortable. You wished to talk about one of your students, probably Rosabelle?"
For a moment Richard followed the speedy progress of Anthony down the hall. He looked back at Tarik standing in the doorway of the open office, with a look of perplexing wonder on his face, then he looked back down the hall, finding Anthony out of sight. Tarik who had been watching Anthony’s progress also finally turned to him and invited him into his office. Richard walked past the man, and mentally added another possible friend in dealing with Mr. Caretaker.
Richard sat in one of the comfortable overstuffed leather chairs which were positioned in front of a very large wooden desk. The office was definitely a man’s office but there was a warmth which seemed to perm-innate every inch of it.
“Sir, you are correct in your assumption my visit concerns, Rosabelle Fairmont. I am really worried about her.” Pulling a journal from his robe pocket he continued, “I found this journal stuffed under the desk in the Herbology office. It belonged to the late Professor Harris.” He handed the book to Tarik. “Among some very interesting entries, Rosa’s name is mentioned quite a few times in the pages, and the entries worried me enough to have a meeting with the child. I held the meeting in the small little office off the Hufflepuff common room, hoping she would feel more comfortable there.”
“During our meeting she mentioned several points which I am trying to find out about. I am just learning about the students in my care, so I needed to talk with people who could let me know if I am dealing with real facts, or the fantasies of a young child. I held a meeting with Gab Lupin, and got a few answers, I think. With your background in Magic I was hoping you could tell me if it is possible for someone to turn into a Phoenix? I ask because apparently Rosa’s mother told her it was going to happen to her one day, and she is frightened beyond belief of the possibility.”
Richard had asked his most important question of this strange Professor. Richard liked him, and Sasha loved him, but there was power there which Richard was not sure he wanted to completely experience, at least not on the receiving end.

As Richard sat down, Tarik sent the signal for his best friend as he made them both teas. When he saw the little man, Tarik said, "It would seem that something that has a Statue Spell on it has caught unwanted attention." He knew that Darik would understand just who had been there.

Tarik reached for the journal but since Darik was here all he said was, "Copies, Spell, only Richard Greene on the original." He never had to say much for the elf that was like an older brother to know exactly what was needed.
Turning to Richard he said, " I go by Tarik. He is Darik and like my brother. You can trust him, though whether he trusts you is totally up to him."

Tarik smiled at the man's reason. Then at the mention of Gabriel, he interest peaked. He looked towards Darik. The man's question shocked him. The Phoenix was one of only two of the most rare Animagus forms. He knew that Darik was listening and he wondered what his little friend thought about it. The good thing is that he never had to ask the little man as Darik had learned long ago that Tarik valued his opinion. So the man always voiced his ideas. Though since they were not alone, Tarik thought to encourage the elf's voice by saying, "Darik, you been around young Rosa. Does she seem the type to have that as her protronus?"
Richard had asked his most important question of this strange Professor. Richard liked him, and Sasha loved him, but there was power there which Richard was not sure he wanted to completely experience, at least not on the receiving end.
Tarik smiled as he said, "Richard, the only other rare Animagus is the Sphinx, but yes it is possible. It would take a very unique wizard to have it as it is extremely hard to control. If you want, me and Darik can explain any questions you might have? Though it concerns me that she fears it, maybe we need to understand that as well?"
Looking at Darik, he said, "What do you think brother?"
(OCC: I had Darik's permission to state what I did)
Darik HouseElf
As Richard sat down, Tarik sent the signal for his best friend as he made them both teas. When he saw the little man, Tarik said, "It would seem that something that has a Statue Spell on it has caught unwanted attention." He knew that Darik would understand just who had been there.
After giving a quick explanation to Mistress Sara, the owner and operator of Madam Puddifoot’s Tea Shoppe, and his friend and boss, Darik apparated to Master Tarik’s office. He knew it must be important otherwise the Amir would have come to the Tea Shoppe. He had been quick to take in the general situation. Master Tarik was sitting against the desk and another man, a Professor by his robes was sitting in one of the chairs. By this he knew Tarik trusted the man for the most part. Master Tarik was still standing so he was showing dominance over the situation. Walking calmly up to his friend he bowed slightly, to show the stranger the respect which was to be given to the Amir, and asked, “You needed me Amir?” Stepping back he looked over at the other professor to make sure he had gotten the point of respect. The human only seemed to be staring at him. Darik smiled and nodded in the professor’s direction.
Listing to Master Tarik, Darik instantly knew that the human they called Anthony, had been in the office without permission and had gotten caught by one of the statue spells. Darik was glad that was all that had happened to him. It would have been difficult, but not impossible, to explain some of the other results by moving the wrong object.
Tarik reached for the journal but since Darik was here all he said was, "Copies, Spell, only Richard Greene on the original." He never had to say much for the elf that was like an older brother to know exactly what was needed……Turning to Richard he said, " I go by Tarik. He is Darik and like my brother. You can trust him, though whether he trusts you is totally up to him."
The Professor offered Master Tarik a writing book. In protective mode Darik retrieved it first and examined it carefully. It appeared to be the standard book many of the professors and students used at the school. The last page caught his eye though. It had a very small amount of blood on it and the back cover bottom corner of the notebook had been purposely turned up as if it was an arrow pointing to something. Figuring the book was not dangerous at the moment he placed it under his arm and looked at his friend. Copies would not be hard, he would make four, knowing he could make more or destroy some of them depending on the circumstances. To start with he would put the Professor’s spell on the original one and his and Master Tarik’s only on the other four. These spells would be changed as needed.
Darik noticed the Amir, had given the other professor permission to call him Tarik. Darik would of course make sure it was always in a respectful tone….As for trust, Master Greene did have the trust of Master Tarik, so for now he would show him some respect, but he would watch for a while before trust came into the picture.
Darik thought of the young female. He liked being around her. She seemed like one of the fragile pixie in the hills around Hogsmeade sometimes. But there was definitely a strength which did not show itself very often. He remembered she had always treated him kindly, which was not really a standard trait in all humans who thought themselves better than elves. The Phoenix was extremely rare. Darik had seen one other wizard with it, an aged Head master who had been killed during the last Wizard Wars.
Rosa had shown the inner strength of being able to have the Phoenix as a protronus, but she had a long way to go before she would have the outer strength and the knowledge needed to control it. She wanted to be a healer and that would fall in line with the possibility, because the Phoenix had great healing powers, one tear drop could heal the worst of wounds. “The child has buried her magical ability very deep Master Tarik. It will take major work to get her to the point where she could even think of having control over the Phoenix, depending on what she has buried and how much she is willing to let go of in her life. Yes, Amir I think she could have it within her. One word of caution though, if it comes out too early, it will only destroy her and possible some around her.”
“If you would like to try and bring it out, it must be slow and by no means rushed. She must also be watched carefully so things do not get out of control before someone can teach her how to maintain a true grip.”
Tarik smiled as he said, “…it concerns me that she fears it, maybe we need to understand that as well?" Looking at Darik, he said, "What do you think brother?"
Thinking about this statement Darik added, “The fear of any object makes it scary. For a child to fear something, somewhere along the line there was a memory concerning the object. Maybe if you could get her to a Psychological Healer she trusts, the memory can be brought out and the fear can be banished. At that point, and only at that point, can you truly start work on the Phoenix part. “
Darik stopped. Master Tarik had given him permission to speak in front of the other professor. There were a few other points to be brought out, but they would have to be completed by those who truly loved the girl.
Richard Greene
[quote}After giving a quick explanation to Mistress Sara, the owner and operator of Madam Puddifoot’s Tea Shoppe, and his friend and boss, Darik apparated to Master Tarik’s office. [/quote]
As Richard made himself comfortable in the chair, a House Elf appeared where one had not been standing before. This House Elf was a bit strange and different than any he had seen before. He was dressed in what could only be described as a gypsy outfit and he stood straighter than other elves. He did not slouch. He also seemed to have an air of confidance about him.
“You needed me Amir?” Stepping back he looked over at the other professor to make sure he had gotten the point of respect. The human only seemed to be staring at him. Darik smiled and nodded in the professor’s direction.
Richard knew he was being rude, but the sight of the strange little fellow was almost un-nerving. Then his question to Tarik, added another point he did not realize. The House Elf Darik had called Tarik Amir. In his travels Richard had discovered Amir meant “Prince”. Tarik was apparently a prince in his own right. Surprises were not stopping.
Tarik did not have to say much to the Elf he called a friend and brother. He would remember to call the Professor Tarik, It was surprising to Richard he would have to earn the respect of the Elf. In every circle he had ever traveled, elves were creatures to be tolerated and they were required to show respect of any human. Somehow Richard knew there would not be any way for Darik to not command respect in his own right. Richard found himself hoping he would measure up to the Elf’s standards.
The Professor offered Master Tarik a writing book. In protective mode Darik retrieved it first and examined it carefully
When Darik took the book out of Richards hands his first instinct had been to grab it back. Mentally though he told himself that was ridiculous, and settled back in the chair to see what the Elf would make of the book. As far as he knew Elves could not read and had no use for books. Surprises kept flowing though. Not only did Darik seem to be reading the book, he was examining the pages and the cover looking for something. Apparently he did not find it because he just put the book under his arm and continued in the conversation.
“The child has buried her magical ability very deep Master Tarik. It will take major work to get her to the point where she could even think of having control over the Phoenix, depending on what she has buried and how much she is willing to let go of in her life. Yes, Amir I think she could have it within her. One word of caution though, if it comes out too early, it will only destroy her and possible some around her……“If you would like to try and bring it out, it must be slow and by no means rushed. She must also be watched carefully so things do not get out of control before someone can teach her how to maintain a true grip.”
That was all very interesting information. They were talking as if the Phoenix was possible really Rosa’s protronus. She was so small. Most Phoenix’s he had seen were very large birds. Tarik had said the protronus was very rare, and Darik had added it was hard to control. The child had been declared a latent so she had some catching up to do.
“I know a bit about the Phoenix and protronus’ are like messengers you send out which can have little or no opaque value to them. The problem I am having is Rosa thinks she is going to turn into one, not just be able to send it out as a protronus. Is it possible for this to happen?” Richard thought he knew about the wizarding world but apparently he had spent too much time in Muggle society and in just traveling around looking for rare plants. “Also do protronus’ choose the person or does the person choose the protronus?”
Darik stopped. Master Tarik had given him permission to speak in front of the other professor. There were a few other points to be brought out, but they would have to be completed by those who truly loved the girl.
To Richard it seemed Darik had stopped short of everything he wanted to say. He was not being disrespectful though, more like cautious. Looking at Tarik, he wondered what was coming next.
Tarik Sadiki
Darik was glad that was all that had happened to him. It would have been difficult, but not impossible, to explain some of the other results by moving the wrong object.
Tarik saw the all too familiar look in Darik's eyes and said, "Yes, Darik. I would like to know what has his interest and insure that next time, he doesn't get as close." Tarik didn't want the Caretaker hurt, just discouraged from snoopy where he shouldn't. One of the things that had the Statue Spell on was Tarik's journal.
It was surprising to Richard he would have to earn the respect of the Elf. In every circle he had ever traveled, elves were creatures to be tolerated and they were required to show respect of any human. Somehow Richard knew there would not be any way for Darik to not command respect in his own right. Richard found himself hoping he would measure up to the Elf’s standards.
Tarik watched as the man seemed to be shocked by this information. The Medjai gave unique smile as he said, "Richard, my family except one has never looked at elves as anything but another magical and extremely powerful being. Darik was set free no sooner than my father bought him. He was offered a home and family. I have always considered as a brother and friend. We have done everything together and I value his opinion more than most wizards as he has never lied. So to earn his respect is to earn mine." Tarik smiled as he looked at Darik. He knew that Darik would die or kill to protect him or Arianna, just as they would. This wizard hopefully now understood that Tarik would only fully trust him if Darik did.
Noticing Darik's interest in certain things in the journal Tarik said with respect, "Darik, what is it my friend? What have you found?" For the copies to be made, any secrets in the journal must be known. Only Darik with his keen eyes would spot the secrets that Harris hide. Tarik knew that most wizards never understood that they could learn a lot from the elves. He hoped that this HOH was not one of them.
Tarik shook his head as he said, "no Darik, I have no intention of rushing what the gods intend for her. I only wonder if just maybe she is one of the few wizards that can became an Animagus. She would have to be doing extremely well in both Potions and Transfiguration. But you brought up an interesting point, could somebody be actually trying to control her? If they were to have her under their control before she learns the skills needed, could they use her gift for means that are different then what it was intended? As you know Darik, The Phoenix has two sides. Could somebody actually what that other side?" Tarik shuddered at the thought of somebody actually using that sweet girl for such dangerous means. The gods intended for Rosa to be a healer not a Destroyer and Tarik had every intention of insuring that her gift was used properly as the gods intended.
Tarik smiled as he thought of Darik's words. Then he said, "So somewhere between the time she was two and ten, she has a memory that has her fearing her future. Interesting!" Then he remembered hearing that Ari had told some other children about a dream that his mother had in regards to her. Tarik wondered if Rosa might have had the same idea. It was normal for children to tell others. Voicing his thoughts, "Darik is it possible that like Ari, she might have told of her mother's dream? If she did and somebody that shouldn't had overheard...It would explain a lot. Though how to find out?"
“I know a bit about the Phoenix and protronus’ are like messengers you send out which can have little or no opaque value to them. The problem I am having is Rosa thinks she is going to turn into one, not just be able to send it out as a protronus. Is it possible for this to happen?”
Tarik said calmly, " An Animagus is being able to transform into the animal of your protronus. With the right skills and the proper potion, yes it can be done. Very few wizards have reached that level of Transfiguration and ever fewer that have a rare protronus, like Rosa."
“Also do protronus’ choose the person or does the person choose the protronus?”
Tarik smiled as he said, "The protronus is your true self or that is what I have always believed. Though the wizard must want to learn how to bring it out. So to answer your question, both. Though Darik is better in this area than I."
Darik stopped.
Looking at Tarik, he wondered what was coming next.
Tarik noticed that Darik had stopped speaking and from his body language, Tarik knew that his friend was debating on continue. Smiling he said encouragely, "Darik, my friend what is it? I know that Richard only has the girl's best interest at heart. Please, we can't help her unless we know what you know. You want to help one of your favorite little friends, don't you?" Tarik knew that he was pushing but Darik knew more and it worried Tarik that his friend was keeping it secret when it might be what they needed.
Richard Greene
Tarik watched as the man seemed to be shocked by this information. The Medjai gave unique smile as he said, "Richard, my family except one has never looked at elves as anything but another magical and extremely powerful being. Darik was set free no sooner than my father bought him. He was offered a home and family. I have always considered as a brother and friend. We have done everything together and I value his opinion more than most wizards as he has never lied. So to earn his respect is to earn mine."
Richard of course knew how to free an Elf; the owner would personally give them a piece of clothing, but in his experience the elves did not stay around when they were freed. Where most of them went, was a mystery Wizards had been speculating about for years. For Darik to stay with Tarik and his family meant he thought of all of them as his family and also felt very protective of them. One thing Richard had learned during his years of travel, to different parts of the world was Elves knew and were capable of much more than humans gave them credit.
Richard hoped he would not have too difficult a time, gaining this Elf’s respect. He found himself wanting it.
Noticing Darik's interest in certain things in the journal Tarik said with respect, "Darik, what is it my friend? What have you found?"
Also picking up on the fact Darik seemed interested in special parts of the book, Richard was very interested in what he would reply to Tarik’s question. The little Elf was becoming important in Richards life without him totally realizing the fact.
Tarik said calmly, “An Animagus is being able to transform into the animal of your protronus. With the right skills and the proper potion, yes it can be done. Very few wizards have reached that level of Transfiguration and ever fewer that have a rare protronus, like Rosa…. Tarik smiled as he said, "The protronus is your true self or that is what I have always believed. Though the wizard must want to learn how to bring it out, so to answer your question, both. Though Darik is better in this area than I."
Richard tried to comprehend what Tarik was saying. His protronus was the Fared Badger, but he never thought of turning into one. A thought came to him out of the blue. “What if the Black Roses were part of the ingredients needed for the potion, Rosa would need.” This thought just added to his ever growing list of questions. For now he tried to settle back and concentrate on the Elf’s explanations.
Darik HouseElf
“….So to earn his respect is to earn mine." Tarik smiled as he looked at Darik….
Darik bowed slightly. To have the respect of the Amir was everything to Darik. He would give up his life for the human. He was not sure how much Master Tarik knew about the punishment he had taken for the young Master. Master Tarik’s older half-brother, Khalid, had Darik suffer. The Dark wizard had been in touch with Darik over the years and threatened to have Master Tarik whipped or worse by one of his accomplices. The only way he would not have the deed done to Master Tarik was for Darik to agree to be a surrogate for the beating. Darik had accepted the agreement six times over the years. Once he had to pretend to be on business because the beating had left him so badly injured. Master Tarik was his charge and he would protect him from harm at all costs.
Darik took the book out from under his arm and looked at the last page. He had found several entries, but those he needed to check on before he voiced his opinion especially with a human he was not sure of yet in the room. On the last page was written , “Need to find Deputy Head Mistress McChey as soon as possible, just found out we are….” The sentence stopped there. The only other thing on the page was “He has found me, take care all, I am done…” There was also a small smudge of blood in the shape of half a finger print.
Looking first at Master Greene and then to Master Tarik, he told of his findings and his opinion. First he read the information then said, “First Master Harris had discovered something, but did not even want to write it in the journal. There is a ‘we’ involved, so it will be important to find out who is included there. I think Master Harris knew someone was getting close and he definitely knew who it was. He also knew his fate when the person or persons found him. Maybe Master Tarik, if you talk to Mistress Sasha, you can find out something in Master Harris’ past which would at least head us in the right direction.”
“I cannot figure out why the bloody fingerprint was there. The murder did not find the journal so it would not have been his. Master Harris may have cut himself by accident or on purpose to leave us a clue. That is for the future.”
“One other thing which is out of order with his part of the book is the bottom corner is purposely turned up pointing too…” Darik stopped and took his fingernail and picked at the binding near the top of the page. It peeled back and inside was a small note addressed to Mistress Sasha. Darik carefully pulled out the singularly-folded slip of paper and handed it to Master Tarik. “Maybe this will tell us something, Amir.”
“……But you brought up an interesting point, could somebody be actually trying to control her? If they were to have her under their control before she learns the skills needed, could they use her gift for means that are different then what it was intended? As you know Darik, The Phoenix has two sides. Could somebody actually what that other side?....."
“If someone knew Mistress Rosa, was even remotely capable of physically becoming the Phoenix, or even if they knew she would be able to control her protronus in ways not normally possible, there would be good reason for them to want control of the girl, Amir. Human children can be controlled in many ways and fear of causing pain to ones they love is one of the strongest controls. Hopefully, until Mistress Rosa gets past the childhood stage and can start reasoning as is proper, she will not have to make a choice between allowing dark entities to control her. She must be protected.” Darik waited for the next question, he knew was coming.
Voicing his thoughts, "Darik is it possible that like Ari, she might have told of her mother's dream? If she did and somebody that shouldn't had overheard...It would explain a lot. Though how to find out?"
Looking over at Master Greene, and then back to Master Tarik, Darik tried to answer the best he could. “She told Master Greene in his office. So yes, others could have either overheard the same type of statement at a past time. Young humans talk to each other, about their fears. Adult humans listen in sometimes to find out what is going on in their young charges, lives and sometimes to see how they can use information to control the young ones. It is common knowledge there are adult and young humans at this school, who are looking for information to pass on to those who would like to see harm done.”
Tarik smiled as he said, "The protronus is your true self or that is what I have always believed. Though the wizard must want to learn how to bring it out. So to answer your question, both. Though Darik is better in this area than I."
Wondering how much he should really let Master Greene know about, Darik looked at him and continued. “As Master Tarik says the protronus is your true self. It is a representation of what is inside of you and what you are capable of. If you hide from your protronus, because you are scared of it, and there are wizards who do not use their protronus’, it will never grow. Control of the protronus starts small with just a few possibilities, but a master handler can use it to hurt others because it becomes almost solid. If Mistress Rosa does not accept the possibility of her total abilities in the next few years, the Phoenix protronus will exist but be dangerously out of control. The morphs into the bird will come whether she wants it or not, so she needs to not be frightened or damage to herself and others will occur.”
Smiling he said encouragingly, "Darik, my friend what is it? I know that Richard only has the girl's best interest at heart. Please, we can't help her unless we know what you know. You want to help one of your favorite little friends, don't you?"
Darik bowed slightly to Master Tarik, to show him he was now talking in the compactly of a subject not just a friend. “Amir, I have a suggestion to make, but it is up to you if it would be proper. I would like to start the young Rosa in some of the basics of the old teaching. She is still too young for most of it but maybe it will build confidence. Master Will in progressing well also and he may be able to help.” Darik was not sure if he was making a proper suggestion. Females were not usually given the training he was asking the Amir to teach. As head of the family it would be up to Master Tarik to give his permission.
Richard Greene
On the last page was written , “Need to find Deputy Head Mistress McChey as soon as possible, just found out we are….” The sentence stopped there. The only other thing on the page was “He has found me, take care all, I am done…” There was also a small smudge of blood in the shape of half a finger print.
Richard only nodded when Darik read the statement. He had examined the book as much as possible before even coming to this meeting. He was starting to take the Elf’s abilities for granted and did not even question anymore Darik’s ability to read.
“If someone knew Mistress Rosa, was even remotely capable of physically becoming the Phoenix, or even if they knew she would be able to control her protronus in ways not normally possible, there would be good reason …… to want control of the girl, Amir…..others could have overheard the ….. statement at a past time. It is common knowledge there are adult and young humans at this school, who are looking for information to pass on to those who would like to see harm done.”
Sitting up straighter in his chair, Richard latched on to the statements Darik was making. Controlling young children was a common practice of adults or even older children, after all teachers and parents used controlling methods on children all the time, but hopefully with love and concern add in large quantities. There were those in the world who thought control meant total mind numbing obedience though and those people were dangerous, physically and mentally to the young ones. Richard would have no problem pointing out several in the school, both adult and other children who enjoyed tormenting others.
“I had a meeting yesterday with Gab Lupin, Deputy Headmistress’s McChey’s cousin, at the Shadow Lounge. He suggested I bring up several points to you. The first was the fact Anthony has forbidden me to go into his work closet or into his office. I was wondering if you could come up with a way I could find out what he is hiding without tipping him off?” Richard felt very secure in telling Tarik and Darik what he was trying to do.
“ One other question came up. My meeting with young Rosa was cut short by the appearance of Black Roses on the window sill of the small office off the common room of the Hufflepuff House. I am sure they were not there prior to the meeting and I am also sure they were not there when the meeting started. Sometime during our conversation they just appeared. There were three of them. Gab said Rosa has been receiving them all along, but she never seemed to be as scared of their appearance has she has been lately. Would you have any ideas on one how they got there and two, what is making her so frightened of their appearance
Wondering how much he should really let Master Greene know about, Darik looked at him and continued. “As Master Tarik says the protronus is your true self. The morphs into the bird will come whether she wants it or not, so she needs to not be frightened or damage to herself and others will occur.”
Richard had only general control over his protronus. He had not used it much over the years because he spent much of his time around a mixture of wizard and muggle society. The wizards would have thought nothing of it, but he was sure if a ghostly image of a Ferret Badger all of a sudden showed up on stage or at a gathering, questions may be asked.
He knew he was not keeping the worry out of his face. Something would have to be done to protect the child. Richard realized his best abilities to helping would come from the two people in front of him and the mentors like Gab he was getting to know. He was a listener, because he had learned a long time ago that was how you obtained information.
Smiling he (Tarik) said encouragingly, "Darik, my friend what is it? I know that Richard only has the girl's best interest at heart. Please, we can't help her unless we know what you know. You want to help one of your favorite little friends, don't you?"

“Old teachings,” Richard thought to himself, “now that was an interesting thing. Darik was apparently also a teacher.” The gifts of the Elf would probably never stop to amaze him. “And who was Will?, also was a question he may want answered.
Tarik Sadiki
“Need to find Deputy Head Mistress McChey as soon as possible, just found out we are….” The sentence stopped there. The only other thing on the page was “He has found me, take care all, I am done…”
Tarik smiled as he listened. It seemed Sasha knew more people then she had told him about, including Harris. Though it could just pertain to the school. Looking at Darik, he said calmly, "Yes, I think Sasha might know something. Though how to ask her without having her usual response, Darik?" He was already in hot water with her as he had not told her about the twins. He was still trying to understand how he had gotten so sidetracked.
“I cannot figure out why the bloody fingerprint was there. The murder did not find the journal so it would not have been his. Master Harris may have cut himself by accident or on purpose to leave us a clue. That is for the future.”
Tarik again nodded as he said, "Darik, could it be a blood spell? Like with the chessboards?" He knew Darik would understand what he was asking. If so, whose blood would unlock it's secrets.
Tarik refused the note as he said, "That is for Sasha's eyes only, Darik. You must give it to her and her alone. Though I am hoping that she will confined in us it's details? After the Sorting Hat, I am not so sure. She is still pretty mad at me, Darik."
Tarik frowned as he knew the look in Darik's eyes as he asked, "Darik, I have never asked as it was not my place, but I need to know. Is that what happen to Khalid?" Tarik saw so much as he realized that Darik blamed himself for not being able to protect Khalid. He wondered if that was the reason he had become overprotective of Tarik and Ari. He smiled at Darik and wondered if Khalid ever knew.
His eyes after Darik gave him his answer told his friend that they would talk later about the who and why. Tarik just wanted Darik to understand that those that turned his brother would pay for what they had done and that Darik would get that honor.
Tarik nodded as he understood exactly who Darik was talking about or at least a few.
Tarik turned to Darik and gave a knowing smile. Gab knew of Darik's abilities and had sent Richard in the right direction. Putting a voice to his thoughts he said slyly, "You will find that Darik has many talents. Darik, you can but don't get caught. Understood? Sasha might not have an option so I would like not to have her make that choice or Flara, for that matter."
Would you have any ideas on one how they got there and two, what is making her so frightened of their appearance?"
Tarik smiled at Darik as he said, "It would seem that you need to talk with your friend in the forest again to see if somebody has been stealing while he has been napping."
“As Master Tarik says the protronus is your true self. It is a representation of what is inside of you and what you are capable of. If you hide from your protronus, because you are scared of it, and there are wizards who do not use their protronus’, it will never grow. The morphs into the bird will come whether she wants it or not, so she needs to not be frightened or damage to herself and others will occur.”
Tarik was a little stunned by the information. Could it be possible that she was a Metamorphmagus instead of a Animagus?
He knew he was not keeping the worry out of his face. Something would have to be done to protect the child.
It seemed to Tarik that Richard was worried about young Rosa as was he. Trying to ease the man's mind Tarik said calmly, "Richard, we will figure it out. Maybe she will open up to you again? The Roses might not be able to be stopped but things can be done to protect the child. Darik, you know what needs to be done. We need to limit access to her as much as possible. Also, maybe mark those who do get close so we can check them out?"
Master Will in progressing well also and he may be able to help.”
Tarik nodded as he said, "Agreed but remember that for one she is not on the same path as William Blakelee and two, she is younger so go easy on her. Especially since she has been having this trouble but yes I agree that it might help."

Looking at Darik, he said calmly, "Yes, I think Sasha might know something. Though how to ask her without having her usual response, Darik?" He was already in hot water with her as he had not told her about the twins. He was still trying to understand how he had gotten so sidetracked.
Darik smiled ever so slightly. He had voiced his opinion last term when the twins were found telling Master Tarik he should tell Mistress Sasha about the twins before they arrived. Master Tarik had either forgotten or had decided against the idea. “Master Tarik, you know very well I suggested you should tell Mistress Sasha immediately when you found out. Even with the passing of Headmaster Witchard, there would have been time. Even with all the knowledge you and I were both taught certain aspects of human woman’s feeling were never covered.” Smiling a bit broader, he continued, “You must walk that trail by yourself. Only you will be able to find the correct path and navigate the obstacles.” Darik knew how hard it was for Tarik to deal with Mistress Sasha’s temper. He still for some reason blamed himself for being away when the twins were stolen and Mistress Sasha had come up missing. He had joined his heart forever to hers, and it hurt him when she was feeling hurt.
Tarik again nodded as he said, "Darik, could it be a blood spell? Like with the chessboards?" He knew Darik would understand what he was asking. If so, whose blood would unlock its secrets?
Darik contemplated the question, before venturing an answer. A blood spell would have to have a sample of the person’s blood that could cause whatever reaction was needed. The finger print could be ample enough to act as a matching device, for the journal. It was only a partial print so Darik considered the possibility it was obtained without the original owners consent or knowledge of its future use. “A blood spell would be possible Master Tarik.” Looking over to Master Greene he explained what a blood spell was, and then turned back to Master Tarik. “I would suggest it could be one of two people, either the young Rosa, because she is so predominantly mentioned, or Mistress Sasha, since we have found a hidden note in the binding. The best would be Mistress Sasha, because Professor Harris would not want to involve a child.”
Darik looked at Master Tarik with worry in his eyes. He was not sure how much he should tell him about the past. Darik did blame himself for not protecting and keeping a more watchful eye over the young Khalid. “Khalid never wanted the protection. He would run from knowledge which could help him. His protronus came to him slightly earlier than others because of his strengths. I did not see it coming, and I should have. He was literally snake bit by his own protronus. It was not deadly, but it poisoned his makeup, mostly mentally.” With tears coming to his eyes, Darik continued, “Amir, the effect cannot be cured. Believe me I have spent many hours trying to find someone, anyone who could help. Master Khalid is lost.” Darik could not look Master Tarik in the eyes so he turned away until he composed himself. Turning back he again joined the conversation.
“Master Tarik,” Darik said with mocked indignation in his voice and a smile which he had to force on his face, “I am beyond the age of being caught, by the little know nothing human. Mistress Sasha may be able to catch me, but I do not think so.”
Tarik smiled at Darik as he said, "It would seem that you need to talk with your friend in the forest again to see if somebody has been stealing while he has been napping."
Darik nodded. He would be making a trip into the Forbidden Forest later that day for several reasons. A short stop at the garden spot would be no trouble. “I am sure my friend would be very interested someone is pilfering his pride and joys. Since it is considered by many that he has the only spot, he would love to know if there may be competition also.”
Darik, you know what needs to be done. We need to limit access to her as much as possible. Also, maybe mark those who do get close so we can check them out?"
Darik made a mental note of what would be needed to protect the young child. He would figure out the steps and get in contact with the right people. One of them was sitting here, so he would start at this point. “Master Richard, if I may be so bold as to use your first name, I will need to contact you later when we have a plan laid out. You have access to Rosa for most of the day, through your class and being Head of House. I will be in contact in the next day or so.”
Turning back to Master Tarik, he waited to see what was next.
Richard Greene
Darik smiled ever so slightly…..“You must walk that trail by yourself. Only you will be able to find the correct path and navigate the obstacles.”
Richard caught the byplay between Tarik and Darik. It seemed their brother status was really held in high regards between them. Richard would always remember that fact. To hurt one was to hurt the other, and he never wanted to be on the receiving end of the hunt.
It had been a long time since Richard had heard of a Blood spell being used to protect something. The spell had been very popular with one family he knew about, but he did not have much personal contact with them anymore. He shook his head in agreement, and added, “I agree with Darik. What little I have discovered about Professor Harris from others and from reading the journal, he definitely would go to great lengths to protect any of his charges.”
” Darik could not look Master Tarik in the eyes so he turned away until he composed himself. Turning back he again joined the conversation.
Interesting, Darik was definitely feeling guilty about Tarik’s older half-brother turning to the Dark Arts. It would have to be something Richard would check into. After all he was trying to make friends with the little fellow, and he did not want to bring up subjects which would irritate him or cause him to not trust.
“Master Tarik,” Darik said with mocked indignation in his voice and a smile which he had to force on his face, “I am beyond the age of being caught, by the little know nothing human. Mistress Sasha may be able to catch me, but I do not think so.”
Richard took his hand and pretended to be stifling a cough but instead he was trying to hid the smile at the way Darik had phrased his assurance of being able to carry off the mission without being caught. There was no doubt in Richards mind the whole adventure would be a success, and even though he was still trying to earn Darik’s respect, Richard had already endowed Darik with his total respect.
Richard sat up straighter in the chair. “Excuse me for interrupting Darik, but do you know where these Black Roses grow?” Richard could not keep the excitement out of his voice. He looked over at Tarik, “Tarik, could Darik take me there. I would love to see how they are nurtured and maybe get a cutting to start my own plant.” Richard would have asked Darik for the favor, but Tarik was another Professor and he would know if it was against the rules to venture to the spot.
“Master Richard, if I may be so bold as to use your first name, I will need to contact you later when we have a plan laid out. You have access to Rosa for most of the day, through your class and being Head of House. I will be in contact in the next day or so.”
Richard turned back to Darik, when he had been addressed directly, “I would be proud to have you use my first name Darik.” Richard felt one step closer to the respect plateau. “When you are ready to discuss any plans please contact me, and I will come as soon as possible. You are also allowed in my office as much as you need to be.”
Tarik Sadiki
“Master Tarik, you know very well I suggested you should tell Mistress Sasha immediately when you found out. Even with the passing of Headmaster Witchard, there would have been time. Even with all the knowledge you and I were both taught certain aspects of human woman’s feeling were never covered.” Smiling a bit broader, he continued, “You must walk that trail by yourself. Only you will be able to find the correct path and navigate the obstacles.”
Tarik hung his head as he said, "I know Darik. It is just that things happened so fast that I never found the right time. First the Headmaster, then the missing teachers, then that other assignment. Time just got lost" He and Darik always knew that one of his weakness was focusing on more than one thing at a time. This time, his loss of focus might cost him his soulmate.
Bring his head up, he said sadden, "Darik, this time I am worried that it can't be fixed. Especially since she won't even see to me. See that she gets the note from Harris." He would not go against her wishes.
He shook his head in agreement, and added, “I agree with Darik. What little I have discovered about Professor Harris from others and from reading the journal, he definitely would go to great lengths to protect any of his charges.”
Tarik nodded as he too knew Harris' protectiveness for his students. Though one thing puzzled him, how did the man learn how to do a Blood Spell? It was a Egyptian spell. He wondered if Sasha had taught him but then shook his head as Sasha would have never betrayed what she learned in Egypt. It was time for him to do some checking into Harris' background.
Darik looked at Master Tarik with worry in his eyes. He was not sure how much he should tell him about the past. Darik did blame himself for not protecting and keeping a more watchful eye over the young Khalid. “Khalid never wanted the protection. He would run from knowledge which could help him. Believe me I have spent many hours trying to find someone, anyone who could help. Master Khalid is lost.” Darik could not look Master Tarik in the eyes so he turned away until he composed himself. Turning back he again joined the conversation.
Tarik realized how Darik admittance hurt the elf. He wanted so bad to tell Darik that the blame was never his to bear but knew full well what would happen if he did. So instead he just said, "Thank you Darik. At least now, I understand Khalid a little better. I also know what must be done as his crimes can no longer go unpunished." Tarik just worried that his half-sister Arianna would have to answer for the crimes as well. He still hadn't found a way to spare her without sparing Khalid as well.
“Master Tarik,” Darik said with mocked indignation in his voice and a smile which he had to force on his face, “I am beyond the age of being caught, by the little know nothing human. Mistress Sasha may be able to catch me, but I do not think so.”
Tarik just laughed as he was glad that Darik was back in a good mood.
“I am sure my friend would be very interested someone is pilfering his pride and joys. Since it is considered by many that he has the only spot, he would love to know if there may be competition also.”
“Excuse me for interrupting Darik, but do you know where these Black Roses grow?” Richard could not keep the excitement out of his voice. He looked over at Tarik, “Tarik, could Darik take me there. I would love to see how they are nurtured and maybe get a cutting to start my own plant.”
Tarik shugged his shoulders as he said, "It would be up to Darik's friend as even I have not met him."
“I would be proud to have you use my first name Darik.” Richard felt one step closer to the respect plateau. “When you are ready to discuss any plans please contact me, and I will come as soon as possible. You are also allowed in my office as much as you need to be.”
Tarik smiled as it had never been this quick for Darik to go to first name bases with somebody. Richard seemed to remind him of somebody, Tarik just could not place who.
“I will be very careful about the amount of training I give her. It will not be rushed, this I promise, Amir. She will choose her path. I will only clear away some, but not all, of the obstacles.”
Tarik smiled and nodded. He wondered what Darik had in mind for the young girl.

Bring his head up, he said sadden, "Darik, this time I am worried that it can't be fixed. Especially since she won't even see to me. See that she gets the note from Harris." He would not go against her wishes.
Darik hated putting Master Tarik through the heartache of getting back in Sasha’s good graces. Even though Master Tarik was older and an adult he was still learning. He was on a new path and it was Tarik’s responsibility to keep him moving forward. Sometimes he acted so young, almost like the hurt little boy who had been taunted at the old home of his childhood. Tarik had been small as a boy and had been more interested in learning than play the rough games of the other boys, so they taunted him as children will do when they act differently than expected.
Shaking his head from side to side, Darik replyed, “I will do as you ask Amir, but I think you should tread more on the road yourself. Mistress Sasha needs a ‘white knight’ to protect her, never ever lie to her and help her to understand the world. You must be that white knight or lose her.” Darik looked pointedly at Master Tarik. “I will help where I can Master Tarik, but your life needs to be brought into focus by you, and only you.”
Tarik shrugged his shoulders as he said, "It would be up to Darik's friend as even I have not met him."
Turning toward Master Richard, Darik studied him for a moment. “The place is forbidden to all outsiders unless you are given permission by the caretakers. I will request that permission on my next visit, but do not get your hopes up. At the present time I am working on getting Master Tarik invited there so he can ask about the Black Roses. Humans are normally not welcome there because all they seem to want to do is destroy the place, by upsetting the natural balance. Only so many Black Roses can be removed within a stated amount of time. The Fairy population determines the amount and times. Maybe if I can arrange that visit I will have you included. It will be for seeing and examining only though. To remove anything without consent could have very harmful consequences.”
“If you want to hear about the place from someone else who has been there talk with Madam Puddifoot at the Tea Shop. When she was 8 human years old she became lost in the forest and was taken to the spot by the leader. While there she performed medical aid on one of the very young males. That male is now the alpha-male of the group.” Darik realized he probably should not have involved Mistress Sara without her permission, but he knew she loved talking about the place to people who believed it existed.
Richard Greene
Bring his head up, he said sadden, "Darik, this time I am worried that it can't be fixed. Especially since she won't even see to me. See that she gets the note from Harris." He would not go against her wishes.
Richard watched as Darik tried to get Tarik to take full responsibility for his relationship between himself and Sasha. This strong man standing in front of him who had always seem in total control, was frightened of what Sasha would do. Richard knew Sasha loved Tarik, with all her heart. Once when they talked, he was told she was upset with him for not telling her immediately about the twins, but they were at the school now, and she had them. Sasha did not know how to talk with Tarik, because she thought he was upset with her. Richard dediced he would go where he usually did not dare to tread; he would try and mediate between them. It could backfire, but if they were mad at him at least they would have common ground to use to talk about. Richard grimaced a little, he could possible end up be the hunted by Tarik and Darik. He figured he could always go back to his old life.
Tarik shrugged his shoulders as he said, "It would be up to Darik's friend as even I have not met him."……Turning toward Master Richard, Darik studied him for a moment. “The place is forbidden to all outsiders unless you are given permission by the caretakers…… removed within a stated amount of time. The Fairy population determines the amount and times. Maybe if I can arrange that visit I will have you included. It will be for seeing and examining only though. To remove anything without consent could have very harmful consequences.”
Looking at Darik with what was sure to come across as a little boy, wanting a special treat, Richard ventured to ask, “Can I take my art supplies? I will act anyway you wish Darik. It would be a great adventure of a life time to see the flowers. You can blindfold me, lock me in a trunk, put a statue spell on me if need be. It sounds glorious.”
“If you want to hear about the place from someone else who has been there talk with Madam Puddifoot at the Tea Shop. When she was 8 human years old she became lost in the forest and was taken to the spot by the leader. While there she performed medical aid on one of the very young males. That male is now the alpha-male of the group.”
Richard had been to the Tea Shoppe several times but he did not know Madam Puddifoot had information he would be interested in. The next day off he would go and see if she would be willing to tell him anything about the Black Rose Garden.
For now it was getting late. Richard stood up and said, “it is almost dinner time and I need to check on a couple of matters before we need to be in the Great Hall. I have learned a lot today and..” looking toward Darik, “much about what I have learned as been inspiring,” Richard shook the Elfs hand. Looking toward Tarik, he said, “Tarik, I want to thank you sir, for seeing me. Any information I find out, I will send to you immediately. I will take my leave now. Talk to you gentlemen later.
