The Doctor is in the House (Open) (Hospital Wing)
(Introduction of Dr. Kildare)
Lance Kildare
Lance Kildare walked through the main double doors of the Hospital Wing. This would be the first year he was totally in charge of the area. He had plans only some of which he had discussed with the Head Mistress, Sasha McChey. None of them were elaborate, but there was equipment which needed to be updated, and the over flowing file cabinet in his office, needed to be cleaned out and reorganized. The herb garden out the side door needed to be fixed, and he was hoping it did not need to be replanted, but the shape it was in, did not make that hope promising. Richard Greene, Professor of Herbology was stopping by as soon as he could get his own classes sorted out, and the House of Hufflepuff, which he was Head, running smoothly. The beds were all right, but he did not like the color of white. The place was going to be brightened up.
He had learned last year that more seating for visitors needed to be added. He actually had students, because of Brennan Dawson being in the hospital, camped outside the main doors. Lance was hoping to add an area out there for people who just wanted to set or wait. It would be cozy and a bit more up to date than the very uncomfortable metal chairs they now could offer.
For these and a couple of other projects he hoped to get students to help. He knew that some of them taking Potions and Herbology had expressed interest in going into medicine when they graduated. This would be a great way to introduce them into the area.
If he could get a full time veterinarian on duty, that would open another door for the students. At the moment Pippen English, the Care of Magical Creatures professor was doing an excellent job as a temporary vet, but with the problems still being endured by the members of Hogsmeade Village after 80% of the Forbidden Forest had burnt a year ago, Lance knew she was feeling a bit overwhelmed.
Lance surveyed the room as he headed for his office in the back. Since the hospital wing was always in use even when the school was officially closed, it was always clean. Some of the professors lived at the school, year round or were always stopping in. The elves had been given instructions and training by Lance on what he expected the place to look like and how he expected the cleaning to be done. He smiled as he saw the elves had gone beyond his instructions in areas he had not given details about. There were hanging plants and flowers around the room. All the papers on the desk were neatly stacked and a paperweight was on top of them. Lance liked to keep the windows opened as much as possible. A clear film would cover them automatically during bad weather of if the temperature outside became too cold. The winter in the Scottish Mountains could be brutal.
Sitting at his desk in the oversize, padded chair which swiveled and rocked, he took a few moment to really take in the fact he was in charge and looked forward to a great year. A knock at his door brought him back to the moment. "Come in." he said as he sat up straighter.
