New Threats?
(OOC: Combined threads from the previous site)
After leaving the class Dempsey headed straight for Tarik's office. Tarik had told him that he allowed some students to use it but Dempsey was ready to face students with pure authority. Any inside would be quickly ordered out.
He did not have the patience to deal with whiny students at Hogwarts at the moment. On a better days his demeanor toward the young bright minds taught in the school would be more tolerant. Still he did not have the patience to teach and respected Tarik even more for dedicating his time and energy. The future of the Wizarding world grew and learned within the very castle he had. But Dempsey's patence could only extend so far and whiny children would press him to a breaking point. Definitely not a job for him.
As he neared Tarik's office, Dempsey grasped his wand and uttered a secret phrase known only to Tarik and himself. It was meant as a master key for either, if they needed access to something of the others. Tarik knew that anytime he desired, the spell would gain him access to any of Dempsey's homes and likewise. The door swung open and Dempsey entered the empty office without slowing or breaking stride.
Tarik left the classroom with full confidence in the Allies. The children would hunt for Tia and Rufus. Looking towards his office, where Dempsey was probably waiting for him, Tarik thought about the code that him and Dempsey had set up. Dempsey had found a medallion.Could this be what Leo and Dawson had? His brother's medallion would seal Khalid's fate. Had Dempsey found it?
Thinking back to what had happened in the classroom, Tarik knew that he had messed up big time. I was watching for an adult to be the attacker not a child. Rufus Scorpio had taken him by surprise. Tarik had learned a hard lesson from this. I won't be fooled again. Rufus is has harmless as that snake. Now he had to tell his old friend what had happened and that the girl was missing. He just hoped she was still on the grounds. What could Rufus' game be? Tarik did not yet,but he intended to find out.
Reaching his door, Tarik thought as he open it, Dempsey is really not going to like the report. Maybe I should just find out what brought him here? then I will tell him.
Looking at Dempsey, Tarik said quietly as he made sure they would not be disturbed, "Hello Dempsey, What medallion do what me to look at?"
“What I have may be a medallion but it is definitely a relic.” Dempsey began after the door was shut. He withdrew the ancient artifact from his jacket pocket and laid it on Tarik's desk. Carefully he rubbed away any blood and grim remaining from the fight and pointed out the runes he was questioning.
“This is Arabic and not modern day script this is prior to my comprehension.” Dempsey looked at it closer. “It could be a mix of Arabic, Hebrew, and Egyptian, but I am unsure, so I am sticking with Arabic.”
Dempsey paused for a moment so Tarik could pick it up and study it.
“The runes could be a mix of all three or something else. What if it isn't even human?” Dempsey questioned out loud but was thinking to himself.
“I know, I found this on a rogue Wizard who was seen working with Dahana. But what would Dahana be doing around a rogue group of Wizards? Either way it could have been a necklace or something but the person was holding in their hands as if it wielded power. I believe he was reading it during the fight but I could not tell. The question I have is what would a Prussian be doing with an Arabic, Egyptian artifact? The sooner you can translate that the sooner I can put everything together and find Dahana.”
“Oh and now I have reason to believe that Dahana was not working alone. This, to me, opens the door for many different possibilities.”
Tarik nodded and pointed to his desk. Tarik just wanted to see this relic and get back to the hunt for Tia.
Tarik saw as it was laid on his desk. Shaking his head Tarik said, "Dempsey, couldn't you have at least clean it before bring it here? No matter."
Before Tarik could open his drawer to get his cleaner, Dempsey had already cleaned it and was pointing out what was bothering him. Upon seeing the ancient writing, Tarik almost cried. If this is what I think it is. Tarik could not finish his thought. Dempsey had been there when he had discovered his family slaughtered. It had been when he got back from the other place. Dempsey had told him that he would find the ones responsible. He just hoped that this didn't mean that the whole counsel was wiped out. There was 13 medallions in all. Each representing one of the royal houses of Medjai. He didn't want to believe . I have to be sure before I send Dempsey to my aunt's house. One of his father's line had married into Arabic royalty back in the 5th dynasty. If this was the medallion that was given at that union then My father's best friend is.Again he could not finish the thought.
"You are right, old friend." ,Tarik began. "If this is the medallion I think it is. That Arabic dates back to the 5th dynasty." With that he reached into his drawer and grabbed two items. One was his own medallion and the other a list of addresses that he had to give to Dempsey. If this was the fifth medallion then Dempsey would need that list.
Tarik studied the medallion very closily and saw what he feared. "Dempsey where did you get this and was an Sudan warrior wearing it?" Tarik knew Hawk of the Night and was pretty sure the answer would be no. Hawk would never take off the symbol of his link to the Medjai.
A Prussian had his uncle's medallion. Tarik knew he had no choice the list of Medjai leaders had to be giving. Most of the clans were dead long ago. That why only a few have the list, my brother being one of them. The list contend 11 names and addresses. The 13th was lost to time about a hundred years ago. The wife of a Scottish noblemen was in fact one of two princesses of Egypt.
Turning to his blood brother he said,"What does Dahana have to do with this?" Tarik was now furious. It was the one name that could link this to Tia. Thinking about Tia, Could that be what the attacks are about? Tarik felt an urgency to find both Tia and Rufus.
"How long have you known this?" ,Tarik was fearful for Tia. He had not meant to take his rage out on Dempsey. He doesn't know about Tia.
"This medallion belongs to Hawk of the Night. It has been in his family since the 5th dynasty. He is one of 13 Medjai to wear one of these.", Tarik said with sadness in his words as he handed Dempsey the list that had his and 1o other names and addresses on it. He is going to ask for the other two names and addresses.
Tarik would wait for the question before reveal who he believed to be the thirteenth. Looking at the door, Tia must be found.

Dempsey stood, eager for Tarik to give him the translation.

“That's my confusion.” Dempsey raised his hands is frustration. “Dahana is only worried about recovering Native American artifacts, he could care less about ancient Egyptian relics. The last time I spoke to Dahana, I believed that he was convinced, that the Sioux relic was returned. Then the Andreas girl went missing shortly after. We all thought it was Dahana, finishing his deed, but I am beginning to question. Bina spoke to Dahana after that night, but the Andreas girl was still missing when this happened. She swore that the girl was not with Dahana. I believe Bina, and knew then that he had help, but now I am beginning to question his purpose.
Maybe a year or so, but in that time Dahana has been doing some unexplainable things. This...” Dempsey picked up the relic, “Is way out of Dahana's character.”
Taking the list from Tarik Dempsey studied it carefully. Two were not named but, that did not bother Dempsey. He knew well enough that Tarik was still looking for his brother. Who was the other?
“What if, I mean this is far fetched, but, what if your brother and Dahana were working together? But Dahana would have no animosity toward the Andreas girl now that the Sioux relic has been found and returned. Then searching for ancient Egyptian relics would be right up his ally.” Dempsey shrugged. “But what would Dahana have to gain from this?” Dempsey looked at the ceiling in deep thought.
“Either way I do not believe that Dahana is after the Andreas girl any longer, but whoever is, he may be in connection with. Just imagine if Dahana learned of the same information we are discussing now. If he were to have linked up with your brother, then everything Dahana learned would have been shared with him. Then sorry to say, but your brother will be much farther ahead in information, over you.”
Dempsey picked up the relic and placed it in his pocket. “We should inform Danial of this. He will not tolerate some upstart group, trampling around in Seven territory.” Considering Seven Territory covered the entire Earth, that meant upstart groups were tolerated at all.
“Don't worry, whatever may have leaked to the ministry I will have purged. If I cannot then, I will lead them on a wild goose chase until I can apprehend Dahana and force the truth from his lips.”
Looking at the list Tarik gave him he inquired, “Who is the other missing person on this list?”
Tarik knew that his hatred for Dahana might have clouded his judgment of his involvement in what happened last Christmas. Tarik had gotten to know Bina over the last year, She wouldn’t cover for Dahana. She was one of the reasons that he hated Dahana so much. Dahana needs a lesson in how to treat women and friends. The way he used Dempsey’s friendship was another. Tarik planned on teaching him that lesson as soon as he could get his hands on him. Looking at Dempsey, Tarik just nodded in agreement as he said, “Bina is though covering for that man.”
“You’ve known that long and didn’t tell me! Why?” ,Tarik said still unable to control his temper. I am worried that Tia is now in even worst danger than before. My friend is telling me just now that others might be involved and Tia’s missing as is that boy Rufus. Why didn’t Dempsey tell me sooner? Tarik realized the answer as he tried to let his friend know he wasn’t mad at him. Then he said, “Because you weren’t sure, were you Brother?” Dempsey as Tarik knew never said anything unless he was positive it was the truth.
Tarik saw that Dempsey was studying the list. When will you ask about the missing names old friend? Tarik figured that it would be later. How would he handle the news that Tarik thought that Tia’s name should be on that list. Tarik then realized that Dempsey was speaking again. I got to stay focus and let the others worry about Tia right now. Tarik took a deep cleansing breath as he tried to focus on what Dempsey was saying. If I mad now, wait until Dempsey hears that Tia has gone missing again.
Khalid and Dahana working together? Tarik had been thinking that these rogues might be working for his brother since he had seen the medallion, then Dahana’s name had come up. Now.. “Brother, you know I put nothing passed Khalid! He’s accused of killing our grandfather as well as Dawson and Potter. “ Tarik said with venom in his voice. Looking at the medallion, he said as he once again tried to calm himself, “ Khalid would want these medallions. It would be his way of knowing that the Medjai wearing them was dead. Khalid would want those Medjai dead . Since they pick the next leader of the Medjai.
“Dahana doesn’t know I was here?” Tarik said now worried. Remembering the snake, he wondered if his brother would go that far. One of the wearers was but a child. There was a special rule about that. Tarik just had to remember.
“No, I will not beholden to your friend. You can tell him if you wish about this rogue group but nothing about the medallions or Khalid.” Tarik snapped then calming himself added, “Sorry, I know that you are only thinking of the danger to him. This is a Medjai problem and unlike Daniel you are considered Medjai.” At least not yet.
“Thank you old friend. Yes, Dahana must be found and his link to my brother if there is one discovered. And the sooner the better.” Tarik said as he wanted to know where his brother was and if he knew about Tia.
“That's my confusion.” Dempsey raised his hands is frustration. “Dahana is only worried about recovering Native American artifacts, he could care less about ancient Egyptian relics. Looking at the list Tarik gave him he inquired, “Who is the other missing person on this list?”/
“The thirteenth line went missing about a century ago. It is the oldest of all the lines.” Tarik started unsure of how to tell his friend that he believe that the bearer of that medallion was the same girl Dempsey had asked him to watch.
“No, I have never introduced you to Dahana, and never would indulge him with such information. Bina's lips are sealed and she would never back stab me or you,” Dempsey shook his head and lowered his eyes at even the thought of Dahana knowing anything about Tarik.
“We should inform Danial of this. He will not tolerate some upstart group, trampling around in Seven territory.”
“Ah, but you have yet to compete the translations of the runes Danial requested.” Dempsey informed his friend. “Either way the Medjai are not a Seven problem unless your brother makes them a Seven problem. Which reminds me, we have an old Arab within the Seven, maybe I should inquire of him. Not that I would share any information with him, but maybe he knows something. If I approach him cautiously I might get what I need without spilling any sensitive information.”
Dempsey slapped Tarik on the shoulder, “You know I would never do anything behind your back. If you do not want this revealed to Danial or anyone in the Seven my lips are sealed. I will not even confront the Arab if it does not serve your purpose. The Medjai is your playing field, I am just here to help. As soon as it crosses over and it appears to be trying, then Danial will have no choice but to intervene. I cannot keep your secret after that. But, I will do everything in my power to keep that from happening.
“The thirteenth line,” Dempsey gave Tarik a questioning expression. “You have shared some of what was indeed to be known, but some remains a mystery to me. When you are ready, I will listen, but if you are not then I accept it as your secret.” Dempsey nodded then considered the time. “I need to head back to the ministry soon, but I want to have some sense of completion before I leave.”
“Then all my brother should know is that I am on the hunt for him. That was something I never meant for to be secret.” ,Tarik gave a sly smile as he said this. I long as he thinks I am unsure of his guilt, then I have the element of surprise. He knew that he would have the proof before him and Khalid met. Thinking about how he and Dempsey had found his family, he knew that the wizards that were helping Khalid would feel his wrath as well. “They will pay for what has happened to the Medjai!”, Tarik said with new determination. He knew Dempsey understood his hatred for Khalid and those that helped him.
That was a difficult translation. The runes were of a very ancient type. Tarik loved his time with those runes. So far, Danial had proven to be a man of his word. He is also has high ideals. I am starting to see why Dempsey considers him a friend. Maybe one day I will too but not yet. There were still things that concerned him about the men who worked for him. No matter, it’s Danial’s heart that has to be pure not his men. It was Danial that had asked for the translation and if Danial could pure his heart than the translation will be his. If not then Tarik would cross that bridge when he had the answer. He had told Danial up front that if the gods wanted the man to have the answer than the answer would be his.
“I know old friend and maybe one day I will be able to say the same of Danial. It is just there is so few of us left and that started when we trusted certain wizard so we have become very picking of who we can friend.” ,Tarik began as he remembered that Khalid hatred of most wizards was worst than his. So why brother are you hooking up with them now? And who? Still worried now about if Khalid knew about Tia, he decided to take a small chance on Danial. “Dempsey, go ahead and tell him about what is happening to the Medjai. Not about Khalid, mind you but the rest. Maybe if he can find these rogues than maybe we will be one-step closer to Khalid. Make sure that he understands how much I am putting my trust him with this.” Tarik was not sure about telling Danial because of some of the other men around were just plain dark hearted. We are losing enough from the tombs without the wizards finding out that if I am right, that I am the last pure Medjai. Tarik just needed Danial’s network so he could give all his attention to protect the Medjai children.
Tarik remembered the talks in the past with his blood brother about the missing tribe. He hoped he was not repeating himself. Thinking that he would have to tell this story at least one more time. Smiling since maybe the first time since the incident in his class Tarik began the story of Menka:
Tarik stopped and thinking about Tia, Because the bearer of that medallion is the rightful ruler of both Egypt and the Medjai. Looking at Dempsey he knew that if his friend asked why they searched he would tell him. Tia is but a child and yet I am honored to be assigned by the gods to protect her as my ancestors protected her family. Very few of the lines knew the name of the wizard Menka married or the symbol that prove the line it came from. If Tia’s shows Isis in the center as mine shows Horus then I have a hard choice to make. No, it will be her choice, not mine. He knew that Dempsey was waiting for what the medallion said. “Do you have any more questions about the Thirteenth tribe?” , Tarik asked solemnly.
Dempsey gave a slight grimace with the sharing information with Danial, suggestion. He would have to use tact in how he approached Danial with the information. The purpose of the Seven had nothing to do with placing the Medjai back in order. He already had in mind what to say concerning a rogue group of Wizards, and how Tarik's brother could cause problems for the notorious group. Knowing the situation with Dahana was beginning to get on Danial's nerves, Dempsey would have to choose his words carefully. His duties to the Seven were already being hindered by Dahana, if this other problem was to come to light in the wrong way, he did not know how Danial would respond.
“The thirteenth line,” Dempsey gave Tarik a questioning expression.
“No, I believe you have the chronological order of information down correctly. Well... if the thirteenth tribe is that important what if your enemies have already found them?” Dempsey shook his head uncertain how to take the information. If Tarik needed help, or knew something he did not. He trusted whatever needed to be done would come to light when it was necessary. “I would really like the translation from this relic. Also I plan on taking it with me, but I will return it after I am finished with it.”
The situation was getting slightly complicated even for Dempsey. If Dahana no longer had a purpose at Hogwarts where was he going to strike next? St Mungo's, His eyes widened at the thought of Tara. Dahana could never allow what happened in the Americas to come to light. I must warn Adal. Dempsey's thoughts wondered from the topic.
Handing the relic back to Tarik because he held out his hand. It seemed he had missed a couple of the inscriptions on the object. Dempsey shared of a bit of concern. “If the purpose of killing the Andreas girl is gone,” raising his hand before Tarik object. “I say this only because Dahana no longer seems to be behind the attacks. Also because, if the attacks were orchestrated by somebody who wanted the last person in that family dead, wouldn't she have been killed when she was kidnapped a year ago?”
Waving his hand once again Dempsey continued. “It does not serve the Seven to go about killing young Wizards before they can be inducted into the group.” He removed any question on that. “Dahana no longer has a purpose for her, so that leaves only some sick mind wondering about to cause problems. You are free to do as you wish here at Hogwarts, even if you need the Headmaster's help in discovering the demented mastermind behind that.”
Dempsey's expression changed cold. “Dahana could show up here nonetheless, but he would be searching for a set of twins. The man had shared with me his desire to take them to the United States, as if being Native American means one must live there. If Dahana arrives here for any purpose whether it be the Andreas girl of Adal's grandchildren.” Stopping for a moment. “You have never met them have you? Have I introduced you to Adal, Bina's employer?” He gave a half grin. “I know I spoke of Tara, the woman who was placed into an Eleven year coma due to Dahana. She was once considered a friend of Dahana and Bina.” Shaking his head in disgust. “I should have known then how Dahana treats his friends. Still, I aided the man until his deeds became unbearable,” Dempsey lowered his head in self condemnation.
Considering the time he shook his head. “I better get that translation and get back to the ministry.”
Tarik lower his voice to a whisper as he told the only man other than Dawson that he would ever call brother, “Only three Medjai know the last name of the wizard that Menka married. I am one of them. The other two were my grandfather and my father.” I hope everyday that Khalid or Dahana has not discovered the line. Which is why I am here to insure that nothing happens to that line.
“No, my friend. If you find that Hawk and his family are dead, keep it safe and with you.” Tarik said honestly. He trusted that Dempsey would keep it out of Khalid’s hands.
Tarik looked at the center of the medallion for a few minutes before handing it back. Hawk you sneaky bird, you have a daughter. Do not worry uncle, I will find her when the time is right. His uncle was well past a hundred so Tarik knew that his cousin was probably married and was a grandparent by now. She would be hard to track down. Hawk had given him a clue though the line had his mother’s wand. I will know that wand on sight.
Tarik to thought that the attacks made no sense, Unless, killing wasn’t the propose of the attacks? But if the attacks weren’t meant to kill Tia, then why so violent? Tarik had no answer but hoped soon he would.
“Yes, it would seem we judge the reason behind these attacks wrong. Dempsey, If not to kill her then why attack her in such a manner has they have over the last few years? It don’t make any sense, unless they have found out what I only suspect about her.” ,Tarik said hoping that Khalid and Dahana had not learned the girl’s secret. Tia couldn’t tell them for she did not know herself. Tarik still had to one prove that she was indeed the last of the thirteen tribe and two remember what happened the last time a child ruler came to the throne of Egypt. Only then would he tell the young girl of her royal birthright. Until then it was too risky.
“I do not nor have I ever thought Danial to be involved but would any of the others go to these lengths to get somebody to join?” Tarik asked as he wanted to rule out Seven involvement. Then he remembered what Dempsey had said about Seth Wright’s new job. “Dempsey, we might be looking at the wrong target. What if the attacks on Tia are to get to Seth? Seth is the Minister’s Personal Auror. Could somebody be send Seth a message? If so, how far would Seth go to protect his Goddaughter? You know him better than I.”
Tarik shook his head at involving the Headmaster and said, “I will only involve Headmaster Joseph if I have no other choice. I know your friend Seth trusts him as do I. He has a lot on his plate right now. In addition, he might ask questions about why I cannot watch her on the holidays and we most certainly do not want him going there. Do we?”
Tarik gave a sly grin as he said, “I hope he is foolish enough to come here. Because when he does it will be his first and last time.”
“No, my friend you haven’t. We both have been kind of busy.” ,Tarik said giving a semi-smile. Still not at all happy with where he was when Tia was taken.
“Have you or Bina used the recipe that I gave you for Tara? I will help her overcome the effects of the Drought of Living Death much quicker.” ,Tarik said hoping they had as with it she would be able to use her magic much faster than if she had to wait for her body to heal on its own.
“Yes, I still can’t understand how you could be completely fooled by this Dahana. Though sometimes people want to believe that if the person just has the right friends, then they will turn around.” ,Tarik said thinking about Tia and how when it came to other students she seemed to trust a little too easily. Though that might just be because of the error, she made with the Centaur and the girl known as Veronica. Maybe Tia does not trust her instincts anymore. She likes to give people the benefit of the doubt even with me. She might not trust me fully to show me her medallion but she also stood up for me when Telk made his joke in my class. Tarik wondered if that had anything to do with the attacks. Until he figured out the why, he could not hope to stop them.
“The translation is quite easy. I have told you most of it. It shows that Hawk of the Night was the last wearer of the medallion. He is from the fifth tribe of the Medjai. He is from the Noble house of the White Sands. His line goes back to ATAESI Neferhetepes.” , Tarik said with a smile on his face. The only part that gave him trouble was ATAESI. It is not the princess’ first name so what? Tarik knew he almost had the meaning of that word.
Dempsey looked at the Relic then made a comment to Tarik's confusion. “That is Arabic, its read from Left to right,” he gave him a smug grin. Tarik should have known that, something must be bothering his friend.
“I must bring this back with me and log it, then I will get it back to you if you need it. I See no further use for it as it contains no information that I need.” Dempsey was glad at that moment, that he was Irish.
He watched on for a moment as Tarik studied it further then reached out to retake possession of the artifact. “I guess my time here is finished. I hope you obtained some helpful information.” Dempsey patted him on the shoulder.
London awaited and while he was there he would check in on Bina and Tara. His thoughts wondered to another situation that might need to be dealt with. “How is Ryan doing?” Dempsey gave him a half smile. “This Christmas I would like you to come over and surprise him at dinner.”
Dempsey did not receive the smile he expected and pressed further. “What is bothering you?” Dempsey asked. "I will look into to this list but you are missing a couple names here." Dempsey tried to ease his mind.
After Dempsey reminded him of how Arabic is read, Tarik said, “Of course!” Thinking to himself, The situation with Tia must have bothered me more than I want to admit, even to myself. He knew that soon he would have to tell Dempsey about it. Tarik realized that he was stalling. I just don’t want to have to admit that I messed up. I am a Medjai.
“Like I said before, I would rather have you hold on to it.” ,Tarik said hoping his friend would realized that Tarik was worried that somebody could get a hold of it here. I hardly ever wear mine, so nobody will know that I have one except Khalid. If Rufus does work for my brother than this is a good way to prove it. I am going to have to warn my friend about the note Tia got concerning her friends. ,Tarik thought realizing that now the snake in Runes made sense as did Tia’s running.
Tarik looked at the writing one more time and said, “Ancient Princess.” When Dempsey patted him on the shoulder, Tarik realized that Tia must have believed that the snake was meant for her friends but Tarik knew that snake was meant for Tia. Looking at his friend he thought,When will Dempsey see that his name is also on that list.
When he heard something about Christmas, he answered his brother half-heartily still worried what Rufus’ plans were with Tia, “Ryan is fine. Sure no problem.”
Tarik realized that Dempsey had decided it was time to address what was bothering Tarik thinking, I knew I could not hide this for long. He wants to know what is bothering me and he wants that last name. At first Tarik tried to tell Dempsey it was nothing, but seeing the look on Dempsey’s face Tarik knew that his brother was not buying that. Tarik said, “You know me to well brother. It is Tia that is bothering me. I messed up big time. A snake appeared in Runes and started crawling up Tia’s bad leg. The snake was made by a boy I thought to be harmless.” Tarik gathered his thoughts and looked at his best friend to hear the man.
Then Tarik continued, “Yes, I know and I will watch the boy more closely from now on. The reason it worries me even more now is…” Tarik knew from experience that after he said the rest that Dempsey was going to blow, “because for one” Tarik looked at the list, “the man that Menka married was Marcus Andreas, and two Tia saw the snake, remembered a note that she found in her box after Diagon Alley and…” Tarik tried to not appear as worried as he was, “about 20 minutes ago she run out of my classroom followed by the boy that did the spell.”
“Assumptions are the number one cause of big mistakes. Either way, does this boy have a name?” Dempsey asked as he turned into the Auror. “That does not matter,” he immediately waved it off. It was a Hogwarts problem and Dempsey had bigger things to worry about.
The headmaster of the school was no fool, and any young punks trying to test their wings with dark magic could easily find themselves expelled. Not even the Seven, youth would tempt the man. Dempsey had both a respect and a disliking for Joseph, due to his friendship with Daniel. It was nothing personnel, just separate sides of the spectrum. Had they been on the same side, Dempsey could easily see how he could like Joesph, but that was not the case.
“What happened to the Tarik I knew in Iran?” Dempsey smiled, but teasingly. “Nothing got past you there? Had either one of us let our guard down, we would have been killed.”
His smile quickly wiped off of his face and turned to concern. “You're getting soft, snap out of it.” Then his expression turned to a scowl, “Don't let these little brats walk over you. You're the teacher, they are the students, lay down the law. If you must, cast Petrificus Totalus on your entire class; do it until you can get control of them.” Dempsey nearly smiled at his suggestion then continued.
“I could never be a teacher,” he shook his head. “You are responsible for what happens in your classroom, even if the little brats caused it out of your control. If something bad happened to the Andreas girl, you will have to answer to Joseph Witchard. I do not normally have dealings with that man, but if I must, it will be a ministry problem. Nobody wants that.”
Dempsey frowned, but did not know how to respond. He knew how much the reunification of the Medjai meant to Tarik, especially after his entire family was murdered. Still Dempsey had little time with his workload being as large as it was, let alone his attempt at misleading the entire ministry for the purpose of the Seven. The latter was more worry some to Dempsey, as covering his own tracks was becoming difficult while Dahana and whoever he was working with was out and about.
Dempsey had people to track, and killing to do, there was no time to squander with the drama's of Hogwarts. Children needed to be put in their place; listening, learning, with full attention on their elders, not babbling at the mouth and playing with their wands. That is why he loved Ryan, the kid was all ears and thin lipped. Whatever Dempsey said, he ate up, spoon fed. Ryan would be his spy when he grew into an adult.
Still, he was frustrated with the problems Tarik was having. He would never allow the kids to do what they were getting away with in his class. If he was a teacher, his students would be silent when they entered his classroom. If they had questions he would assign an older student to answer them, after class. Other than standing in front and teaching, Dempsey would have no real contact with the kids.
All at once Dempsey memory served him. “I saw your Tia, near the fountain on my way in. She was with another child, a boy. He looked vaguely familiar to me, but I cannot place it. See, even my memory has taken a walk.” Dempsey joked to ease the tension.
“Either way, do your job and watch out for the students that you are responsible for. Even this boy is your responsibility, because at this moment, I believe that he is of some importance. I will look into it, but for now, I must go, or my partner will think I have deserted her.” Stopping at the door he looked back. “For now, if you can, keep Joseph out of it. If you cannot, cover your own actions and lay down some law in your classroom.” With that Dempsey departed.
Tarik had needed to be reminded of his duties as a Medjai. I have been away from my people for too long., Tarik thought as he realized that he had indeed gotten distracted with the death of his family. If that had happened in Iran, Dempsey’s right, we would have never left there. Alive at least.
Tia’s at the fountain. The boy could be Rufus., thought Tarik as he listened to Dempsey. If it is that boy, then there is no time to waste., Tarik decided. He could not allow distractions to interfere with his job of protecting the girl or the other Allies. Tarik planned on having a very long talk with the boy. With me doing most of the talking.
After Horus left to get the Allies, Tarik left his office thinking a little aloud, "Let's hope they are still there, when we get there. He planned on not letting that boy make him a fool again.
“The thirteenth line went missing about a century ago. It is the oldest of all the lines.” Tarik started unsure of how to tell his friend that he believe that the bearer of that medallion was the same girl Dempsey had asked him to watch.
“Dahana doesn’t know I was here?” Tarik said now worried.
“The thirteenth line went missing about a century ago. It is the oldest of all the lines.” Tarik started unsure of how to tell his friend that he believe that the bearer of that medallion was the same girl Dempsey had asked him to watch.
“No, I have never introduced you to Dahana, and never would indulge him with such information. Bina's lips are sealed and she would never back stab me or you,” Dempsey shook his head and lowered his eyes at even the thought of Dahana knowing anything about Tarik.
Dempsey slapped Tarik on the shoulder, “You know I would never do anything behind your back. If you do not want this revealed to Danial or anyone in the Seven my lips are sealed. I will not even confront the Arab if it does not serve your purpose. The Medjai is your playing field; I am just here to help. As soon as it crosses over and it appears to be trying, then Danial will have no choice but to intervene. I cannot keep your secret after that. But, I will do everything in my power to keep that from happening.
Tarik remembered the talks in the past with his blood brother about the missing tribe. He hoped he was not repeating himself. Thinking that he would have to tell this story at least one more time. Smiling since maybe the first time since the incident in his class Tarik began the story of Menka:
The thirteenth line began in the first dynasty with the ancient Egyptian princess Menka. She was the eldest daughter of one of our greatest pharaohs. When a Scottish foreigner came to honor her father she saw the man’s sons and fell in love with the eldest. The pharaoh gave the day they married three things. The very first medallion was given to Menka, so she would always return to her home. The two other royal presents were the same but different. They were magical chessboards. One was given to Menka’s husband and would add to but never truly change. The other was given to her father– in-law.
She left with her husband and his family. For awhile there was peace between the Medjai and wizards, then the goblins and wizards wanted what was in our tombs for the gold that was there. When we refused them entry, they declared war. Menka’s family and people choose to side with the Medjai. After the war there was only the thirteen tribes left. It was then that the wizards turned on the ones that they believed to be traitors, Menka and her husband’s clan. The Medjai found them burned and her children missing. We have keep the list secret since while always hoping that the thirteenth line would be found.

“The thirteenth line began in the first dynasty with the ancient Egyptian princess Menka. She was the eldest daughter of one of our greatest pharaohs. The man had shared with me his desire to take them to the United States, as if being Native American means one must live there. If Dahana arrives here for any purpose whether it be the Andreas girl of Adal's grandchildren.” Stopping for a moment.
Tarik gave a sly grin as he said, “I hope he is foolish enough to come here. Because when he does it will be his first and last time.”
“You have never met them have you? Have I introduced you to Adal, Bina's employer?” He gave a half grin.
“No, my friend you haven’t. We both have been kind of busy.” ,Tarik said giving a semi-smile. Still not at all happy with where he was when Tia was taken.
“I know I spoke of Tara, the woman who was placed into an Eleven year coma due to Dahana. She was once considered a friend of Dahana and Bina.”
“Have you or Bina used the recipe that I gave you for Tara? I will help her overcome the effects of the Drought of Living Death much quicker.” ,Tarik said hoping they had as with it she would be able to use her magic much faster than if she had to wait for her body to heal on its own.
Shaking his head in disgust. “I should have known then how Dahana treats his friends. Still, I aided the man until his deeds became unbearable,” Dempsey lowered his head in self condemnation.
Considering the time he shook his head. “I better get that translation and get back to the ministry.”

“I must bring this back with me and log it, then I will get it back to you if you need it. I See no further use for it as it contains no information that I need.” Dempsey was glad at that moment, that he was Irish.
He watched on for a moment as Tarik studied it further then reached out to retake possession of the artifact. “I guess my time here is finished. I hope you obtained some helpful information.” Dempsey patted him on the shoulder.
London awaited and while he was there he would check in on Bina and Tara. His thoughts wondered to another situation that might need to be dealt with. “How is Ryan doing?” Dempsey gave him a half smile. “This Christmas I would like you to come over and surprise him at dinner.”
When he heard something about Christmas, he answered his brother half-heartily still worried what Rufus’ plans were with Tia, “Ryan is fine. Sure no problem.”
Dempsey did not receive the smile he expected and pressed further. “What is bothering you?” Dempsey asked. Dempsey asked. "I will look into to this list but you are missing a couple names here." Dempsey tried to ease his mind.

Yes, Dempsey is right. It is time for the boy to see that getting on my bad side is a very bad idea., Tarik thought as he saw his best friend leave. Turning to his falcon, Horus he said, “Find Mir, Horus. Give her this.”Tarik wrote a quick note saying:
Allies, Found Tia. Meet me by the Doors leading to the Grounds. Tarik.

After Horus left to get the Allies, Tarik left his office thinking a little aloud, "Let's hope they are still there, when we get there. He planned on not letting that boy make him a fool again.
