The Egyptian Locket (completed)
(OOC: Combined threads from previous site)
Miranda Dawson
Miranda sighed as she comprehended to knock on the door of her uncle’s office. It wasn’t that she was going to in there to snitch on Rufus Scipio. No. She would keep her newfound information on him hidden for a while. If he did anything else stupid or ridiculous or another one of his sick “jokes”, well let’s just say that she would do something she would regret and she did not want to end up hurting him. No matter how much she says confident when she says she doesn’t care if anything happens to him, then she was lying to herself. Sure maybe at first she didn’t care but she changed her views after a while. The boy couldn’t help who he turned out to be. If he was going to be an impulsive, mean prick, then so be it.
Still Sighing, Miranda started pacing in front of the door, still comprehending whether to knock or just go straight on in. But what if he wasn’t there? Miranda shook her head at her silly question. Of course he was in there. She could feel it. And if she didn’t go in soon, Tarik would get the impression that someone was outside his office and who knows what he might do or bring to the door to keep himself protected if he thought it was an someone of the unknown.
Deciding that it wouldn’t hurt to go straight on in, Miranda turned the doorknob gently and quietly. She then stuck her head in the door and said in a quiet voice, “Tarik?”
Tarik Sadiki
As this was Monday evening, Tarik was in his office waiting for a student to ask a question. No student, how odd? Then Tarik remembered why. That day's class had for the first time since he started at Hogwarts, been dismissed before it had really started. At least they had found Tia and the boy who had caused the problem, Rufus Scorpio. Luckily Dempsey had seen them at the Fountain. Tarik smiled at the thought of his long-time friend. He wants the attacks on the girl to stop as much as I. Neither of them think that it was only a distraction. Rufus is up to something. Dempsey also vetoed the idea of telling the girl Tia how I got so much information on her. Oh well, he would think of something, he always did.
Tarik had talk to Rufus about his show of manners and the prank. He had also talked to Chris. Tarik reached in his drawer and pulled out his medallion. How much is yours like mine? Tarik needed to see Tia's medallion to compare the two. I still haven't found my sister's necklace so I can give it to Mir.
Tarik would get the impression that someone was outside his office and who knows what he might do or bring to the door to keep himself protected if he thought it was an someone of the unknown.
Tarik looked at his falcon, Horus and saw that the bird was eying the door. Somebody's there. But Who? Putting the medallion gently on the desk and remembering what he had found out at his father's home this past summer, Tarik went for his wand and stood quietly behind the door
Deciding that it wouldn’t hurt to go straight on in, Miranda turned the doorknob gently and quietly. She then stuck her head in the door and said in a quiet voice, “Tarik?”
Hearing his name, Tarik put the wand arm down and said,. "Miranda, something wrong?"
Miranda Dawson
If Miranda didn’t know that Tarik was just as perceptive as herself was, she would have found the image of him standing behind the door with his wand pointed at her, a rather strange sight. But it wasn’t surprising nor frightening. It felt natural and right. The way it should be. Still be cautious in case he couldn’t recognize her voice, though he should, she pushed open the door slowly and let herself in, inch by inch. But it seemed her voice did the trick and Tarik lowered his wand at the sound of his name. Smiling softly, Miranda let her whole self in. But she was nervous. Beyond nervous.
Hearing his name, Tarik put the wand arm down and said,. "Miranda, something wrong?"
Folding her arms across her chest to keep the knowledge of how her hands were shaking, Miranda bit her lip for a moment before saying, “No. Nothing’s wrong. I just have a question about something that I’ve had forever but don’t know much about except that it was my mother’s. Being that you are her brother, I thought that maybe you would know anything about it.”
Miranda sighed when she felt herself make no move to take the locket out. She had spent most of her life keeping the locket in secrecy. Now, the one time she wants someone to know about it, she can’t bring herself to show it. Especially to the person who might have some information on it. Knowing that she was going to have to show the locket sooner or later, Miranda reached up behind her neck, and with trembling hands, unhooked the latch. After that was done, she took the locket out from its hiding place (out from behind the front of her jacket, preferably) and held it up to Tarik.
“Do you know anything about this locket? It never occurred to me that this locket was Egyptian. It only occurred to me when I figured out that I was half Medjai.”
While she waited for Tarik’s answer, Miranda noticed a medallion on his desk. She had seen Tia’s medallion plenty of times when she came to her for the repair of it. Tia can get to be a nervous wreck and starts to play with the chain of her medallion. Which mostly results in the chain eventually breaking and either herself of Jayce were to help repair it with the simple repairing charm. But it was the first time she had seen Tarik’s medallion and she was suddenly wanting to get a better look at it. There was something different about it. She just didn’t know what it was. Still holding the chain of the locket for Tarik to have a better look, Miranda said, “Why does it seem that your medallion and Tia’s look to be different?”

Tarik saw that his niece’s arms were folded. Something is bothering her. Looking at Horus, who by now was on Mir’s shoulder pecking at her pocket, he said softly, “Mir, you better give him a treat before he gets it himself. Unless you want another hole in your pocket?” Horus seemed to know which pocket of her robe or jacket that she put the treats. “You have something of Cassandra’s?”, Tarik said hopeful that it was the locket. At least I will know that it is not in Khalid’s hands. His brother would never be able to open it. Tarik knew the secret of his mother’s locket. It’s always passed down to the eldest daughter on her wedding day for a reason. The secret to unlocking its power was love. Something that he suspected Khalid knew nothing about.
Knowing that she was going to have to show the locket sooner or later, Miranda reached up behind her neck, and with trembling hands, unhooked the latch. After that was done, she took the locket out from its hiding place (out from behind the front of her jacket, preferably) and held it up to Tarik.
Something was bothering her or she wouldn’t be shaking. Tarik would just have to ask her later about it.
“Do you know anything about this locket? It never occurred to me that this locket was Egyptian. It only occurred to me when I figured out that I was half Medjai.”
Tarik smiled as he looked at the locket. Miranda had it all along. He had seen her chain several times but never found the right time to ask. At least Khalid had not gotten it. The Bunefer Locket was safe and its rightful owner’s hands. The Dawsons had kept their word.
While she waited for Tarik’s answer, Miranda noticed a medallion on his desk. Still holding the chain of the locket for Tarik to have a better look, Miranda said, “Why does it seem that your medallion and Tia’s look to be different?”
He was just about to tell her about the locket when he saw that she was looking towards his desk. It was then that Tarik realized that his medallion was still out. When she asked about how his and Tia’s were different, he realized that he might not have to see Tia’s at all. “Then remembering that Mir was still holding the locket he said, “Mir dear, Put the Bunefer Locket away. I will explain it soon. First how do you know this medallion isn’t Tia’s?”

Looking at Horus, who by now was on Mir’s shoulder pecking at her pocket, he said softly, “Mir, you better give him a treat before he gets it himself. Unless you want another hole in your pocket?” Horus seemed to know which pocket of her robe or jacket that she put the treats.
Miranda giggled at the bird on her shoulder, bending down to pecker at her jacket pocket to get to the treats. Having spent half the summer with Tarik meant that Horus had gotten attached to her. Whether it was for just her being there or for the treats, she would never know. But it was impossible to not like him. She didn’t have an owl or any other pet for that matter so Horus was sort of like a substitute pet until she got one of her own. She didn’t want to get a pet for fear that it would starve while living under her foster parents roof. No matter how adorable Horus can be when he struggles to get his treat, Miranda knew that within time he would get impatient and she would have to surrender to him. Hearing his impatient caw, Miranda giggled again and pulled out a hand full of treats and set it down on the side table next to her. It was Horus’s treat table for when she comes to visit her uncle. There were scrapes on the table from when Horus would grab the treat and the sharp edge of his beak scraped the wood.
Tarik smiled as he looked at the locket.
Miranda took Tarik’s smile to be that he knew something about the locket. And it made her thrilled. She had spent her whole life not knowing how to open it and now she finally would. She wonder what could be inside the locket if it were not to open by just prying it open with her thumbs like ordinary lockets do. But she had to remind herself that that was no ordinary locket. There was something about it. She just couldn’t place it. Especially since whenever she had the locket on, she was more… sane. It kept her sane. Without it on her neck, she would probably be more of a nervous wreck than Tia ever was. It was as if a great deal of a load had taken off her shoulders. It kept her strong which was why she was as strong as she was as of present. Reeling with excitement that her uncle knew of her locket, Miranda asked in a much less nervous and happy voice, “ So, you do know about it? You asked if I had anything of Cassandra’s? Was it my mother’s?”
Then remembering that Mir was still holding the locket he said, “Mir dear, Put the Bunefer Locket away. I will explain it soon. First how do you know this medallion isn’t Tia’s?”
Miranda’s usual curiosity was now eating at her again. The Bunefer Locket… Strange name but yet so fitting due to it being a special locket and all. Anything that is special deserves its own name. Latching the locket back around her neck, Miranda sighed. It looked like her questions about the locket would be put on hold until she answered Tarik’s own questions about Tia’s medallion. She knew she should’ve kept her mouth shut about Tia’s medallion. Her, Tia, and Jayce had made a promise to never speak of the medallion to anyone. But with Tarik being Medjai, it wouldn’t hurt to discuss it would with him, would it? Contemplating between telling her uncle about the medallion or not, Miranda decided that it couldn’t hurt. With him being so protective of Tia, he wouldn’t want her in any harm, therefore he would keep the medallion a secret, too. Right?
Swallowing before taking a deep breath, Miranda said, “I know that is not Tia’s medallion since she wears hers all the time. With her being a nervous wreck and all, she tends to mess with it. Therefore, its chain eventually gets broken and either myself or Jayce would have to do the repairing charm on it. I couldn’t exactly tell you what is so different between both of the medallion’s unless Tia was here with hers so I could study them both together. But I do know that both your’s and Tia’s are different. Similar, yet different in a way.”

Tarik knew that Tia would mess with her medallion a lot when she was nervous or worried about something. I, myself have seen how that is one way to tell how she is really feeling. ,thought Tarik as he remembered when he had used her messing with her medallion to tell that her cousin Jayce had in fact released her from the full body bind she was in. I told her then that it was not a smart move. It gives her away. Could that have been the boy Rufus’ intention? To get her so worried that it fall off her neck. Tarik stopped himself from going there. If what him and Dempsey believed was true, then the boy was somehow connected to Khalid. Tarik had been suspecting a deadly message since he had made the connection. If Khalid don’t already know where I am he soon would. Would he dare try and take me out? Tarik didn’t know the answer to that but had been on his guard ever since Dempsey’s visit.
Looking at Miranda, he said, “If Tia’s medallion is the one I suspect it to be then there is only one difference. Mir, look at mine closely. In the center there is a picture of a falcon in a cartcauch. What is the picture in the middle of Tia’s?” Tarik hoped it was a woman with what looked like horns and the sun on her head. If it is then the thirteen tribe has been found and I will move heaven and earth to keep her away from Khalid.

While her uncle seemed to be thinking, Miranda stroked the top of Horus’s majestic, black head. The bird turned his beak up from his food as if enjoying the tender touch. It brought a smile to her lips. How even though she hadn’t been able to make someone feel good about themselves, she could at least make someone happy. Even if Horus was only an animal. Letting Horus get back to his treat, Miranda turned back to her uncle who looked to be ready to say something. She took a seat that was in front of his desk and waited patiently and calmly until he would be ready to speak.
Looking at Miranda, he said, “If Tia’s medallion is the one I suspect it to be then there is only one difference. Mir, look at mine closely. If it is then the thirteen tribe has been found and I will move heaven and earth to keep her away from Khalid.
Shifting herself in her seat by overlapping her legs together to where her right leg dangled, Miranda wondered why Tarik wanted to know about Tia’s medallion in the first place? Or why anyone wanted to know about Tia’s only connection to her past in the first place? She knew that her uncle was fiercely protective of the girl she thought of as her younger sister, but was having him know about Tia’s medallion safe? Plus, she had made a promise to never tell anyone about it. No matter how trusting they were. Biting her lip, Miranda looked up at Tarik with a worried face, but didn’t say anything.
She was silent for almost five minutes before she said, “Listen, Tarik. I understand that you have been interested in Tia from the beginning, but wanting to know about her personal belongings is taking it a bit too far.” Standing up, she continued, “I mean, I hate to admit it, but some people think your watching over Tia like a hawk is more like an obsession than mere protection. I know the truth, but I just don’t know why you know so much about her than even I do. Maybe if you can explain that, then maybe I’ll answer your question.”

Tarik saw his niece become very tightlipped. When she finished he said honestly, “Miranda, it’s not so much her as it is her history.” Pointing to the couch that was nearby, he said quietly, “Maybe we should sit down for this? And Miranda if I tell you, you must promise me not to breath a word of it to anyone, especially Tia. Before you ask why you can’t tell Tia it is because I want her to have as normal a life as possible. Also, I might be wrong and her medallion not be the one I think it is.”
After she had given her word he began, “There are actually thirteen medallions like mine and Tia’s. The medallions started to be given at weddings around the first dynasty by one of the greatest Pharaohs of all Time. This pharaoh only had two daughters, ATA and Menka. As you know due to you wearing the Bunefur Necklace, that we come from that line. Well Bunefur was the granddaughter of ATA. That necklace was made by ATA at the time of our ancestor’s wedding. Bunefur wedding was unique as it was the first time, that a princess had falling in love with one of the Royal Guard assigned to protect her. ATA decided to test this love and chose the necklace as the test. I can’t tell you how to open it,but I can tell you that nobody that has wore it, has been able to open it before their wedding day. I can also tell you that Bunefer passed the test and the Medjai were born.”
Tarik stopped knowing that she would wonder what this had to do with Tia. He continued smiling, “The oldest line began in the first dynasty with the ancient Egyptian princess Menka. She was the eldest daughter of one of our greatest pharaohs. When a Scottish foreigner came to honor her father she saw the man’s sons and fell in love with the eldest. The pharaoh gave the day they married three things. The very first medallion was given to Menka, so she would always return to her home. The two other royal presents were the same but different. They were magical chessboards. One was given to Menka’s husband and would add to but never truly change. The other was given to her father– in-law.
She left with her husband and his family. For awhile there was peace between the Medjai and wizards, then the goblins and wizards wanted what was in our tombs for the gold that was there. When we refused them entry, they declared war. Menka’s family and people choose to side with the Medjai. After the war there was only the thirteen tribes left. It was then that the wizards turned on the ones that they believed to be traitors, Menka and her husband’s clan. The Medjai found them burned and her children missing. We have list that we have kept secret since, while always hoping that the thirteenth line would be found.
That was a little over a century ago, that the war happened. The man that Menka married was named Marcus Andreas. I believe that Tia’s brother was named for Menka’s husband. And if the center of Tia’s medallion has a picture of Isis, than Tia is a Medjai and from the oldest line.”
As Tarik let her come to terms with what he just reveiled he said, “She is a child and that puts this under unique rules. I am proud that the gods have chose me to protect her. If it is true that she wears the oldest medallion, then I will tell her. Just not yet, it is too risky.” Thinking, Especially if that Rufus kid does work for my brother.
Tarik looking at Mir who was so much like Cassandra. “Now will you tell me if I was right about Isis being in the center?”

Before you ask why you can’t tell Tia it is because I want her to have as normal a life as possible. Also, I might be wrong and her medallion not be the one I think it is.”
Miranda sighed. The conversation always came back to Tia’s medallion. She knew it was a rather special artifact, but it seemed more special than she actually realized if her uncle was trying to get through her for information. When Tarik pointed to the couch that was nearby, Miranda knew that her confirmations rang true. Tia and her medallion were peculiar and she wanted a reason as to why that was so. Though, the idea of keeping something from Tia made her battle with herself. She had never kept a secret from her before, so why should Miranda start now? Because she wanted to know why her best friend was going through what she was? Why there had been attacks? And why, heaven forbid, were there sinister people after her? Taking a deep breath, Miranda sat down with a gentle “plop” on the couch and said, “You have my word, Tarik. Tia will know nothing of this discussion.”
After she had given her word he began, “There are actually thirteen medallions like mine and Tia’s. The medallions started to be given at weddings around the first dynasty by one of the greatest Pharaohs of all Time. This pharaoh only had two daughters, ATA and Menka. I can also tell you that Bunefer passed the test and the Medjai were born.”
Miranda stared at her uncle, entranced, sucking in every bit of information she could about his and her mother’s ancestors. Not only was the information quite interesting but she knew that the Medjai were rarely seen but not unheard of. Being the intellectual girl she was, information about the past was intriguing to her. Especially since it was her own family history. Well, part of it, anyway. She thought it was utterly romantic for ATA to fall in love with her protector. Miranda was suddenly brought to think of Will and herself. He was like her protector. And she fell in love with him. Or did she?
Miranda shook her head to clear the absurd and unnecessary thoughts and suddenly came to realize that none of the information she had just heard involved Tia, despite the fact that it was fascinatingly interesting. Using her hand to urge her uncle to continue, Miranda gave him a small smile and said in an soft, and patient voice, “Go on.”
They were magical chessboards. One was given to Menka’s husband and would add to but never truly change. The other was given to her father– in-law.
Honestly, Miranda couldn’t help but feel special that she was related to an princess. An Egyptian one at that. Memories flooded her brain as she felt herself get excited over being related to an pharaoh. She remembered when she and Tia were younger, and she was still stuck in the orphanage, they would come up with weird unexplainable reasons why they were brought to the orphanage. And Miranda’s fib actually consisted of herself being a princess and having been sent away for her own protection. Well, it seemed to be the other way around between Tia and her. Maybe not in that sense, but she could definitely see the similarities from her own imaginative story to the real life of Tia’s.
Miranda rubbed the locket she now knew now to refer it to as “The Bunefer Locket” as she listened to Tarik’s words. Processing everything in her mind slowly, the only question that kept popping up in her head was: ’So, Tia could be the owner of the thirteenth medallion and a descendant of the thirteenth line?’ It did make fine sense. No, it made perfect sense. Medjai blood was fading out and the people who seemed to be after Tia want proof that the blood still runs through an human being’s veins. Miranda knew she could be very wrong, but it was the only conclusion to could come to as she processed every bit of new information she had just heard and provided for her already intellectually advanced brain.
That was a little over a century ago, that the war happened. The man that Menka married was named Marcus Andreas. I believe that Tia’s brother was named for Menka’s husband.
Miranda looked down at her hands at the mention of Tia’s older brother, Marcus. Of course, she just never knew Marcus was Tia’s older brother at the time, but she was very close to him as he was to her. He would forever have an special place in her heart other than Will would. Well, Will owned her heart but she was allowed to fill the spaces in it. Miranda was not afraid to admit that she did have maybe, just a small (very small) crush on Marcus. But had gotten over it once she knew that she was never going to see him again. Miranda nodded and said in an sad voice, “Yes… Tia’s older brother was named Marcus Andreas. He was good to the both of us until I got adopted and he was all Tia’s. I was saddened to hear that he had been killed. He was a good man…” Miranda trailed off and stroked the unique-looking locket while willing herself not to cry. She thought she was over Marcus’s death, but by sounds and looks of it, apparently not.
And if the center of Tia’s medallion has a picture of Isis, than Tia is a Medjai and from the oldest line.”

Now holding the locket in the palm of her hand, Miranda wondered what her uncle meant about telling Tia to be too risky. Was it because she was young? She was certain that that couldn’t be the reason because she knew that Tia would be able to keep a secret. She had kept Miranda’s secret for a long time until packages from Mrs. Wright had turned up. But she was sure it was something else entirely that was worrying Tarik. Putting an gentle hand on uncle’s forearm, she asked softly, “What is it that is bothering you? You and I both know that Tia is trustworthy, why would it be risky?” Letting her blue eyes search his, she whispered, “Yes, Isis is in the center. Tia holds the medallion of the thirteenth and oldest Medjai line.”

Tarik noticed that his niece had not yet gotten over Marcus’ death. While giving Mir a reassuring hug, he thought, Maybe I should not have brought up his name? Tarik had been told that Mir had a crush on the young man, but had appeared to have moved on. He had seen her with William Blakelee. He was one boy that Tarik had been meaning to speak with, thinking, That boy is about to become a full-fledge Wizard, and I want to know his intentions towards my niece? He had not yet told Miranda yet, but with the papers coming back yesterday, he was now her legal guardian. He was going to ask Dempsey to go with her when she pick up her stuff from her so called adopted parents. Now that he thought about it, he decided that him and the boy William would go instead at Christmas break. I will let her know at Christmas break that it is done., Tarik thought, knowing that the less Miranda had to see those people, the better.
Now holding the locket in the palm of her hand, Miranda wondered what her uncle meant about telling Tia to be too risky. Was it because she was young? She was certain that, that couldn’t be the reason because she knew that Tia would be able to keep a secret. She had kept Miranda’s secret for a long time until packages from Mrs. Wright had turned up. But she was sure it was something else entirely that was worrying Tarik.
Tarik noticed that Miranda was holding the locket in her hand, he started to think about what he was going to do if Tia was indeed the holder of the oldest medallion. I will first have to look into the laws that tell how her rule of the Medjai and Egypt will be handled. Then I have to ask the Egyptian leadership for a council meeting to ask that she be given her royal birthright., Tarik thought knowing that the two councils had never agreed on how to handle the warfare of Egypt and her people. Tarik also knew what would happen if the attacks on Tia came to the attention of the governing body of Egypt. Both councils would probably want her back in Egypt, until the Wizarding Council could prove that they were not doing the attacks. At that time they would assign several Royal bodyguards to protect her until her attackers were caught and dealt with.Dempsey had warned me that Tia hated bodyguards. That was why she hadn’t been informed of any of the people assigned to protect her. She would really hate a foreign government telling her what to do.
Tarik had been trying to get Tia to trust him. He had figured that he could request to become her personal bodyguard and if approved them he would hand pick the team that watched her while he was away. They will only agree to that if she has full confidence in me. If she had any doubts, then the council would deny his request and choose for her. Tarik knew that if that happened Tia would have even less freedom then she did now.
Putting a gentle hand on uncle’s forearm, she asked softly, “What is it that is bothering you? You and I both know that Tia is trustworthy, why would it be risky?”
Tarik knew that Miranda like her mother was very perceptive.[ I] Should I tell her that I believe that Rufus works for the man that killed her father? Can I truly put my fear that one of her own uncles is her father’s killer?[/I], Tarik wondered what Miranda would think of her own blood if she found out about Khalid. He had not told the Allies the name of the man that killed Potter and Dawson. This in part due to the fact that if one Medjai had turned Dark then more could. Tarik was worried because these children already had trust issues, without finding out that Tarik’s own older brother Khalid had turned against the ways of Medjai. Realizing that Miranda was whispering his answer, he listened very close.
Letting her blue eyes search his, she whispered, “Yes, Isis is in the center. Tia holds the medallion of the thirteenth and oldest Medjai line.”
Tarik waited for her to finish and then realizing that she had trusted him enough to betray her best friend’s secret. Thinking it was the gods way of saying that he could do no less, Tarik smiled as he said, “Thank you. Her secret is safe with me, Mir.”
Tarik at that moment put a shield around them and said, “Mir, What I am about to tell you Seth Wright himself doesn’t even know. The auror that came to the class today, found out that I was about to try and get a job here at Hogwarts. He asked if I did, could I do him a favor. I had known him a long time and told my blood brother of course, anything. He was the one that told me about the attacks that had been happening to Tia. When I heard about the girl wearing a unique necklace, I became even more determine to help this girl. Seth Wright was only told that Dempsey had found somebody to watch her while she was at Hogwarts and nothing more.”
He stopped to let her come to terms with the fact that Seth could not have told Tia who was protecting her because he didn’t know his friend had chosen.
Realizing that she was ready for him to continue, he went on, “Today, I found out that Tia’s attacker and the man that killed yours and Miley’s fathers might be one and the same. The reason I said it was risky to tell Tia about her birthright at the moment is because Rufus may be working for that man. I know Tia would never intentionally give away any secrets, but this man could in fact find out. I think Rufus is getting close to Tia on this man’s orders. As long as he can’t find out any other way, she is still valuable to him. This man has been known for destroying anybody that he believes to be of no use to him.”
He had to stop for a few moments because he was still had a hard time believing that his own brother would kill a child. He shook his head at the memory of his own son dead. If Khalid had killed Ali then Tia would mean nothing to him. Tarik at that moment realized just how dark his brother had in fact become. He would order her death without a second thought. Decided he finished, “If you are wondering how I could know so much about this man? It is because the man that your father and Potter believe to be the man that killed my grandfather was somebody connect to me. The man that I have been hunting is my own older half-brother Khalid. Mir, one of our own family might very well be after the rightful heir to Egypt and the Medjai. Tia is that heir.”

Tarik noticed that his niece had not yet gotten over Marcus’ death. While giving Mir a reassuring hug, he thought, Maybe I should not have brought up his name?
Miranda smiled forlornly and warmly at the friendly and reassuring hug. She doesn’t get much of those types of hugs and she was more than startled when her uncle did proceed to hug her. It didn’t happen often, but she really wouldn’t mind it if it were to occur occasionally for she could start feel a trifle lonely. It wasn’t that she never got much love. Heaven forbid, Will gave her much of it, but it was the fact concerning of how Tarik was related to her. Having an relation was an foreign concept for her to grasp. She had been alone most of her life and was suddenly thrust into the care and homeliness of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. A very life changing event, to be sure.
Tarik waited for her to finish and then realizing that she had trusted him enough to betray her best friend’s secret. Thinking it was the gods way of saying that he could do no less, Tarik smiled as he said, “Thank you. Her secret is safe with me, Mir.”
Miranda gave one curt nod in her uncle’s direction as in saying “your welcome”, but she still felt a trifle guilty that she had just sold Tia out. She knew Tarik was trustworthy as ever but she had made an promise! A promise she was supposed to keep to show her loyalty to the girl who was more like her younger sister of sorts. Sighing, she said mostly to herself but for Tarik, too, “While I’m glad that you’re happy you’ve got the information you’ve been yearning for, I still can’t help but feel somewhat guilty… I had made a promise to never speak of the medallion to others and I had now just broken that promise.”
Having suddenly felt hidden and secluded, Miranda started to get confused. There was more? But she didn’t say word knowing that anything Tarik had to say, he would eventually voice it. She had thought that she would understand much of what he was going to say, but found out quickly that she was more confused than ever. Of course, she knew of the Auror whom had came into the classroom announced just as she was about to take her leave with the others to hunt for Tia, but she had no idea why he was there for or what he wanted to speak with her uncle with. Miranda had many questions and wanted to voice them, but for her sake and Tarik’s, she let him continue on, with hopes of finally finding some common ground where she could understand some of what Tarik was saying.
Whilst many things of the conversation were confusing her greatly, she did catch a few things or so that made common sense. Much more like of how it was risky of Tia knowing of her heritage and an understanding that her uncle also didn’t trust Rufus much like her and many others. But she had very gone white when she heard that he might have found her father’s killer. As much as it disappointed her that she would never get her revenge on her father’s murderer, she was still very much feared if the murderer had been found. If he or she was, then, would they hunt down Tia, too? It seemed quite like the whole world was after the young girl sometimes, but Miranda knew that wasn’t true. There seemed to be more of an number of people protecting Tia than there would be who seemed to want her for something.
Weight her chances of getting an answer of Tarik with the ever present question in her head, Miranda sighed and asked quietly and cautiously, “And, do you know who this sinister man is, Tarik? If not, it’s completely understandable, but you seem to know so much and I’m yearning for answers.”
Mir, one of our own family might very well be after the rightful heir to Egypt and the Medjai. Tia is that heir.”
Miranda’s question was answered quicker than she thought it would be, but it was not the answer she was hoping it to be. How could one of her own family members want to wipe out the rightful heir to Egypt? The only answer she could come up with was that the man was power hungry and would do anything to take claim of the throne to Egypt. But would the man whom Tarik claims to be his own brother really sentence an child to death? That seemed a little extreme to her. She could only hope that someone would talk some sense into that man if that was his scheme all along.
Looking down at her hands in silence and processed everything, Miranda had barely noticed that Tarik had stopped speaking. She was too wrapped up in her own thoughts to pay attention to much around her. Finally looking up, but with an face full of fear and concern, Miranda whispered with an shaky voice, “Was your brother the one who murdered mines and Miley’s father? And is he the very one who is wanting Tia to be swept aside so he could rule Egypt? Would he murder her, too?”

Tarik was a little worried upon hearing that Mir had made a vow of silence. Voicing his concern he asked, “This vow Mir, did you make it with your wand or was it just a vocal promise?” If it was with wand, then he might have just cost his niece her magic. He did not think Tia would allow Mir to make such a vow but she was very protective of her medallion.

Tarik knew that Mir was scared and needed him to be straight with her. He thought about all that he had learned about his brother in the last two years. With concern on his face he tried to explain to his niece his fears about Khalid, “Yes, Mir. Your father and Leo had believed that Khalid was the one that killed my grandfather. I don’t know how Khalid found out that they were on to him. They were going to bring proof of his guilt to me, but never made it. As for how deadly he can be, I am only beginning to find that out myself. Dempsey was here to show me a medallion that he had found on a rogue wizard. The medallion belonged to a member of the council. This past summer I had went to let my father know that I had found you and Miley.” Tarik had to stop as he was flooded with memories of the scene that he had walked in on.
Calming himself, he continued, “They are all gone, Mir. Dead, murdered, even Ali, my two year old son. Me and Dempsey believe that the whole Medjai council has been murdered, though he is at this moment verifying it. Just this year, I found out that I had another son that my father decided to hide from me. Khalid either thought he had found me or had found out about Micheal. Ten years ago, he was killed in America.” Tarik had to stop yet again, as he had not found out until Micheal’s wife had come to work at Hogwarts, so how had Khalid.
Watching his niece very close, he said with bitterness in his voice towards Khalid, “So yes Mir, I now believe that he would not think twice about ordering Tia’s death." Thinking about the rules in regards to child rulers, it dawned on him that he was going about this wrong as he finally remembered the way the law worked.
Smiling for the first time since Runes class he said quietly,"Though we might have the upper hand there. It would mean letting Khalid know what was in the center of Tia’s medallion. You see if Khalid knows that she is of Menka’s line, then he would not dare kill her. He would have no choice but to change his plans. He would still want her because with the Medjai council gone it would fall on to the Egyptian government. He has some powerful allies in that government.”
Tarik seemed to know what his niece was thinking, answering the unasked question, “No, Mir. I have no intention of letting Khalid get his hands on Tia. It is just that with him having to get her alive instead of just killing her, it will buy us time, I hope. Time I can use to find the proof that your father and Leo had. Time to find him and most importantly Time for Tia to become the witch she was meant to be. I know no other way to stop the attacks on her. Now how to let Mister Rufus, find out about the medallion’s center without him realizing it is a trap? Any ideas? It will also help us prove that he is indeed working for Khalid. That would explain how he was able to summon an Egyptian Asp, as it is the snake that Khalid prefers.”

He did not think Tia would allow Mir to make such a vow but she was very protective of her medallion.
Miranda smiled slightly at her uncle’s concern because she only just realized that it, indeed, sounded most like she had made an vow using her wand. Of course, when Tia asked her not to tell anyone, the thought of an Unbreakable Vow went through her mind at once, but did not mention it for Miranda knew how risky and irrational that would have been. Still smiling, she once again laid an hand on Tarik’s arm and said, “No… I’m sorry if it sounded that way, but I would have objected to an Unbreakable Vow immediately if Tia were to suggest it. But I really do still feel guilty about it. I only just started trusting again and it would be ironic if I were to have broken someone else’s trust.”
With concern on his face he tried to explain to his niece his fears about Khalid, “Yes, Mir. Your father and Leo had believed that Khalid was the one that killed my grandfather. The medallion belonged to a member of the council. Miranda nodded. It did make sense that Tarik’s brother would murder hers and Miley’s father. Anyone with suspicions that he was murdering people would have to be murdered themselves or he would have been discovered. If she remembered correctly, Miley’s father was an Auror much like her own father was. Did that mean the both of them were partners? Realizing that Tarik seemed to have froze as if memories were consuming him, Miranda squeezed his arm in comfort and said, “Some memories are never pleasant, are they?”
Miranda listened and her heart swelled up with sadness for her uncle. Tears threatened to come forth from her eyes, but she held them in for she did not want to seem weak. She had always been an fighter and an fierce protector. There was no need for tears just now. Taking a deep, shaky breath to calm herself, she put her arms around Tarik’s form and said, “I am so sorry… “
She sighed at this. It just was so ridiculous and silly! Yes, power can always be an good thing, but it could be an bad thing, too. Though she does keep wondering why Tarik’s brother would want to be heir to the throne if he knew that not many would support him? Or was the man vain enough to think that everything living person or thing would bow down to him? Again, she sighed and laid her head on Tarik’s shoulder and mumbled, “That just isn’t right. Tia’s only an child!”
Miranda automatically lifted her head and frowned at Tarik’s giddiness of just only handing Tia over to the hands of his evil brother. She thought he wanted to protect her, not put her in more danger than she already is despite the fact that his brother wouldn’t dare to kill her. But Miranda did not voice her opinions and just looked at Tarik with the most disappointed eyes and looked away at Horus who was sitting on his perch, seeming to be napping.
Miranda let out the breath that she held in following the little silence and disappointment between her and Tarik. Though she had always known that Tarik would not have sold Tia out, she was still a little miffed that he would have even been thinking about it anyway. Now looking her uncle’s way again, Miranda said, “Well, I do hope and pray that Khalid will never get even in close proximity with her. But the only thing I can actually say about everything from what you have told me, is that not much of it has sunk in yet. Mr. Scipio is the only thing of this whole conversation that has sunken in for his true colors has been shown during today’s very short class time period.”
Continuing, she said, “As for any ideas, I am at loss. Though, I keep getting little snips and flashes in my mind that are trying to come together. Something of what Will had mentioned earlier this week and his mentioning of Rufus and an pretty, certain Slytherin girl, though not quite Tia…” And, Miranda thus trailed off into space, trying to put together the pieces in her head.

Tarik had to get Miranda to see that they needed to find out who Rufus worked for. If he didn’t work for Khalid than they had a big problem. “Mir, yes Mr. Scorpio lived up to his name today, that is for sure. What is not sure is who is pulling the strings. Because if Khalid isn’t then we have a very big problem.”
Tarik thought about the Slytherin girl that was seen with the boy and decided that she was the key. “Mir, I think if we find out the girl’s connection, we’ll find who pulls the strings of our little scorpion. Because if it is Khalid at least we know why. Mir, you have to understand that there are those that would like to destroy the council once and for all. They tried a hundred years ago and only thirteen lines survived. The rogue wizard that killed Hawk of the Night, gave me some doubts about Khalid’s involvement. If the Magi council has an old enemy back, than who knows what they are planning.” , Tarik said as he did not want Khalid to be responsible.
Lower his head as he wondered if he had been tracking a ghost, because the one thing he did know about his brother was his hatred of wizards. Khalid had been twelve when the wizards had attack. They had killed Khalid’s mother in the attack, something that Tarik was sure had made an impact on the young man. It had been the turning point for Khalid and shaped that man he had become. Tarik wondered if Tia might have more than one target on her back and if that was the case how in the world was he going to stop them all.
Realizing that he needed a whole lot more eyes and information than he had, he came up with a idea but he was so unfocused on who was his target, that he really was unsure of how best to put the idea into a plan.
Tarik was beginning to wonder if he should take Dempsey’s friend up on his offer to help protect the child. Shaking his head, that there had to be another way. Tarik had a feeling that he never wanted to owe that man anything. He just hoped that he wasn’t letting his pride get in the way of protecting the young princess.

Because if Khalid isn’t then we have a very big problem.”
Miranda nodded at her uncle as she listened to him. Yes… If it wasn’t his brother whom was instructing young Mr. Scipio to do his bidding, then those whom are protecting Tia were going to have a somewhat of a big issue. Speaking softly, she responded, “Yes, I do think we shall. If you honestly want my opinion of Mr. Scipio, it is the fact that I do not think he is so much of a threat as we all think he is. Sure, he has conjured that wretched snake, but it was his trainer whom had made him the way he is. Otherwise, he would have been any other young boy with an aversion for learning. Yes, I did say that Mr. Scipio was trained. That is another one of my beliefs. He has given that bit of information away when the snake had been conjured. Honestly, Tarik! What third year boy would be so skilled as to use an advanced spell?!”
Tarik thought about the Slytherin girl that was seen with the boy and decided that she was the key. “Mir, I think if we find out the girl’s connection, we’ll find who pulls the strings of our little scorpion. Rubbing her uncle’s arm gently, Miranda closed her eyes. She could honestly understand her uncle’s wishes and hopes that his brother was not involved with the scheme of harming the young princess for his own gain in power. Even though Khalid’s mind may be a bit twisted (or at least Miranda thinks), it was possibly be because of a certain loved one having been murdered during the mass murder of the council in Egypt a hundred years ago. Or it could possibly have been anything that scarred the man for life! Whichever it was, Miranda just understood her uncle’s burning desire to wish for his brother not being apart of the new scheme.
Opening her eyes, she looked her uncle straight in the eye as to prove to him that she did understand, she said, “I understand, Tarik. Honestly, I do…” Looking towards Horus whom was still napping on his perch, she sighed.

Being that you are her brother, I thought that maybe you would know anything about it.”

Miranda Dawson

Tarik at that moment put a shield around them and said, “Mir, What I am about to tell you Seth Wright himself doesn’t even know. The auror that came to the class today, found out that I was about to try and get a job here at Hogwarts. He asked if I did, could I do him a favor. When I heard about the girl wearing a unique necklace, I became even more determine to help this girl. Seth Wright was only told that Dempsey had found somebody to watch her while she was at Hogwarts and nothing more.”

Miranda let out the breath that she held in following the little silence and disappointment between her and Tarik.

Tarik had to get Miranda to see that they needed to find out who Rufus worked for.
