Rune reading
(OOC: Combined thread from the previous site)
Dempsey Aidan McBurr
The trip was long and tiring but Dempsey was used to it. It was the first time he had ever brought Tarik, and was a bit put off by the whole matter. Dempsey had been busy cleaning up after Dahana and now other situations were taking place. Working hard to keep the ministry guessing about the actions of the Seven was a whole different problem, but one he had mastered. If not for Dahana it would be easy to fulfill his part.
Remaining quiet and reserved, Dempsey noticed his friend being slightly uneasy about the whole meet all together. Finally, Dempsey and Tarik emerged from the apparition ready to speak with Danial over the runes he desired translated.
Dempsey ignored the others around the secret headquarters for the notorious group. He knew that many did not like him, but did not care. His friendship with Danial kept any who might dare to be foolish around him at bay. Dempsey respectfully feared Danial's inner circle, but in turn proved his loyal support and did not worry about negative opinions from them. They had all watched him work at one time or another. Dempsey's hands were just as dirty as theirs, or so to speak, he was in it for life, or so Dempsey thought. The only thing that could change that, would be a shift in power. Only a few of the men close to Danial were worthy of taking his place, Dempsey considered himself to be one.
But that was irrelevant to the current matter at hand. Turning to face his long time closest friend.
“Are you ready to meet the man?” Dempsey smirked. He knew it meant nothing to Tarik. Still the runes needed to be translated, and Tarik was the only person Dempsey knew, qualified.
As they proceeded forward Dempsey noticed Fai in the corner of his eye. He had heard about the man and knew behind the calm curious expression, was a ruthless soul. Of all the people on the island, Dempsey had the hardest time understanding Fai. Always wearing a slight smile but behind that smile was something all together different. He knew full well of the man's deeds on behalf of Danial, and knew if Danial ever wanted him dead, Fai would be the man to do it. But Dempsey did not fear that, no. Something far sinister worked behind, fake kind eyes, Dempsey did not trust him.
As they approached Dempsey turned to Tarik, “Danial has been expecting you, he will arrive shortly.”
Tarik Sadiki
Tarik had not said a word to Dempsey the whole trip. They had talked about this the same night he had met with the Allies. He swears that this friend of his has had nothing to do with the attacks on the girl known as Tia Spellman. I believe him so why is this meeting worry me? Then he realized why. I just got a good position at Hogwarts. If the Headmaster ever finds out about this meet, he will think I am a spy. The irony of the situation was that he was spying just not for the Seven. Shaking his head, I don't like this. It's too soon. He trusted Dempsey with his life.
Looking over at where his best friend was, he thought, First you ask me to help you protect Tia, then you might just make that impossible by bring me here. These runes better be that important.
Tarik saw that Dempsey eyes were on him. He was glad to see that the man he considered like a brother knew that he wasn't at all happy about this. I am risking everything for a man that I am about to meet for the first time. He could care less about this civil war of the wizards. He had his own problems starting with protecting the children known as the Allies, especially his niece, cousin and the main leader of the group Tia. He also had to find the person responsible for the attacks on his familyAs long as this Seven have nothing to do with the attacks that have been taking place, which he was at least sure that his friend and the leader of this group didn't, then I will keep his secrets. Plus ancient writings are my specialty.
"You already know the answer to that, old friend." ,Tarik said just wanting to get this meet over with so he could spend some with his new found niece Miranda.
"Nobody can ever know I come here, Dempsey. I know you say that this friend has a good reason for what he does. I could care less. It just you are putting me in a bad spot here. I can't lose my job at Hogwarts and you know why. I trust you that this man has nothing to do with what is happening to that girl. I just hope these runes are worth what we have at stake." ,Tarik said worried because they both had a lot to lose.
Tarik had started to ease up about being there. He hoped that his friend knew that what he said was mainly for anybody else who happened to be listening in. I trust him with my life and Dempsey knows that. I just want who ever might be listening in to know the score. Plus if they think I am doubting Dempsey then maybe I will see their true hearts. Mainly one heart , the man that leads them.
"I hope so for both our sakes." ,Tarik whispered. "I hope you told him about me having no interested in joining his group. I am here to help you that is all." He had became interested in the leader though. Just want about this man had my best friend believing in him. I intend to find out. I just hope I like what I see. It was the Medjai way. To test a man's heart. If this Daniel proved himself like Dempsey had, then and only then will I call him friend. For a Medjai to be called a friend meant that you were family. With a sly grin on his face he thought, We do anything for family
Dempsey Aidan McBurr
Dempsey cracked a sly grin, “How many people do you think know I come here?” Considering Dempsey was an Auror, his job at the ministry, and his entire life was placed in jeopardy if his association with the Seven was ever found out. But Dempsey had a back up plan, Deep cover, infiltration, he smiled to himself. Now the question was, who was he infiltrating? Not the Seven, Dempsey chuckled. His friendship with Danial was secure, so it was the ministry itself whom was being compromised. Even they did not have to worry too much, as Dempsey was not a believer in chaos. Nor was Danial, but the ministry needed to change and both Dempsey and Danial agreed on that.
"Danial knows that you have great skill and knowledge in understanding how to translate ancient writings. He has not expressed any intrest in inducting you into the Seven with me. Though you might know that you are not free to wonder about. Only specific members are here awaiting your arrival. You are my friend, so take this warnig to heart. You are to remain within specific areas at all times. After Danial meets you, and decides on your character, as I know you will his, then you may be granted more freedoms, while here, but I doubt it. As long as you remain on the outside, you will not be allowed to view secret areas,” Dempsey paused considering the entire area secret. “Sensitive areas.” Dempsey shook his head. “I would not place you in danger. Danial is a man of his word. Whatever he says you are allowed to do, or not allowed to do, take care to be complaint of. Now, I have some other things to do while I am here. I will meet you at the runes in question later. But first I will wait for Danial to properly introduce you.”

Not far from where they stood sat the main training facility on the island. All the newest recruits that had been brought there the previous night, save Adarian Ackland, were going through their martial arts exercises while Hirosoka paced between the rows of students, correcting those who were improperly posed. All the while during their studies, Daniel watched from a balcony high above the main floor, standing in silence with his eyes watching the group closely. He was only broken away from his train of thought when an assistant approached him and whispered in his ear. "The interpreter just apparated." His eye narrowed, and he nodded his head and instructed the assistant to have Hirosoka take the recruits through Exercise D5 again before leaving without another word.
A couple of corridors later and Daniel was bathed with sunlight as he exited the building and came out into a dense island jungle. He took a deep breath of fresh air, picking up the scent of saltwater, before continuing south of his current location. The sound of birds in the trees barely penetrated his ears as his thoughts consumed him. Maybe, at long last. If this worked, he could finally check something off his life's to-do-list. He sincerely hoped that this so-called "translator" was worth the effort. He had tried many translators before, had spent no telling how many galleons on different wizards and witches who claimed that they were the best. That they were the top rune reader above anyone else who had ever studied the craft. He had so far been severely disappointed in the outcome of these ventures. Most of those "translators" knew less about ancient languages than he did.
He pushed a tree branch aside and came out of the jungle where there were many Sevens already standing there, one of them being Dempsey. Some of them were startled at his arrival and began to urgently bow their heads in respect to him and elbow their colleagues to alert them to do the same. "At ease, gentleman," he called out. The Sevens became more calm at his command as he approached Dempsey and a man he only knew by picture. Without smiling, he exchanged looks with Dempsey before turning to Tarik. "Welcome to the Dojo, Professor Sadiki."
Tarik Sadiki
Dempsey's answer helped ease Tarik to a point, but he was still uneasy about the whole affair. Tarik had only agreed to meet this man and see the runes. Looking at Horus, he said, "What do you think my old friend?" The falcon seemed to be watching the jungle, which told Tarik something or more likely somebody was coming.
"I had no intention of seeing any more of this place or it's people than I have to." ,Tarik said with a bite to his voice. Dempsey should know that only the runes and this Daniel interested Tarik. Finishing with a look to the trees, he said honestly, "The less I know the better, Dempsey. I just hoped your friend knew that I don't tell secrets either." If the man that had come though the trees was in fact this Daniel, then Tarik wanted to insure that the man had known that he had no intention of revealing any either. Dempsey was the only person that Tarik trusted with everything.
"Dempsey, If the Headmaster gets wind of this..."Tarik let his fears go untold. Dempsey knew the problem. He had gotten the job at Hogwarts to protect the girl, Tia Andreas, if the Headmaster got wind that Tarik had come here. Then the Headmaster would deal with Tarik. The man was too protective of the school and his students to risk a professor turned spy. If this man Daniel, proved himself to Tarik, then maybe, he would be more interested in what this group wanted at Hogwarts.
Tarik turned to face the man that had just been one of a few to sneak up on him. The man had done three things that Tarik found not to his liking. Looking at Dempsey, that spoke of his displeasure, Tarik said as he turned back to the man, "I would rather not know what this place is called. Also not even my students call me Professor Sadiki. It is Tarik. Now what was so important about these Runes, that I had to risk coming here on Christmas break?" Tarik was not mad at the man. He just didn't like being on last name bases. He also was still not pleased with leaving the young Tia unguarded as well as the other Allies. Thinking,Didn't Dempsey tell this man that I hate formality?"
Looking over at the others around, Tarik also knew that few had stood there ground with this man that Dempsey called friend. Tarik knew that could be a good thing or a very bad thing.
Tarik wondered how this Daniel liked people who stood up to him. Looking at the man with a stern look, he thought, I guess both of us, will find out? Tarik had the feeling the man had just tested him. The Medjai believed that life was a test.
Dempsey Aidan McBurr
Giving a curt nod Dempsey turned his attention to Tarik. No words spoken just a calm change of attention.
“Regardless,” Dempsey began, shaking off the statement. He knew Tarik too well, as well as Danial and wished to simply avoid any discrepancies. Turning his attention back to Danial he proceeded. “Tarik is a man I have trusted with my life, on more than one occasion.”
With a slight smile to the side of his mouth and a tilt to his head Dempsey continued. “If I did not trust this man, I would never have suggested him.”
“Sir," Dempsey nodded toward Daniel, "I would not bring trouble here, he is just... picky... or shall I say cautious. If you wish,” Dempsey shrugged slightly. “Shall we continue this conversation inside, within a cooler temperature.”
Already the humidity and heat of the jungle started to show on his collar. Dempsey had no fear over the introduction. Daniel was a man he trusted, or he would have never suggested in bringing Tarik. If any worry was in Dempsey's mind it was only for the abrupt change in climate, nothing more. Still, Tarik needed to understand that dealing with Danial was far more dangerous than dealing with Joseph. This was far from Hogwarts, and if he had shown respect there, he needed use the same tact here.
“Do you remember Iran, my old friend?” Dempsey smiled as he inquired of Tarik. It was not a throw off because he had told the story to Daniel. It was one of the tales he spoke of to the man to convince him of Tarik's trust worthiness.
At this point Tarik was on his own, and needed to choose his words carefully. Dempsey did not worry because if Tarik was not a man who knew how to control his tongue, then he would have never been his friend. At this point the words of his mouth would be the difference in life and death, he did not need to say it. He had already warned him enough, and as close as they were, Dempsey would not undermine Daniel, not here, not ever
Daniel Marsden
Daniel's eyes remained on Tarik. Though his smile remained on his face, it did grow a little smaller when Tarik was less than perfectly respectful. Had Tarik been most anyone else, Daniel would have taught him the true meaning of respect. But, if he could translate the runes correctly, then Daniel could deal with a little bit of cheek, since he rarely had to deal with it. Or he could wait until the runes were translated and then make an example of him. Whatever he preferred when the right time came.
"Do not worry, McBurr," said Daniel calmly, his eyes not leaving Tarik. "If your friend is as talented as you boast, then I'm more than willing to overlook his distinct manners." He smiled at the both of them.
"Yes, I believe somewhere indoors would suffice nicely. It takes time to grow accustomed to this island's weather. Devon!" he addressed one of his men curtly, "we'll be up ahead. Bring us some refreshments. Something liquid." Daniel turned back to Dempsey and Tarik as the man named Devon disapparated. "I just came from a small facility, a little ways into the jungle. We can conduct our business there. Shall we?"
Tarik Sadiki
Tarik saw Daniel’s smile fade a bit, So I was right, he has hardly ever had anybody stand up to him, thought Tarik with a sly smile on his face. Tarik decided to be straight forward with this Daniel. Upon meeting the man, Tarik's interests was piqued. The Medjai believed that a person with a pure-heart would be straight forward. Tarik always told people outright, though Dempsey did not always agree. Like that time in Iran…
Tarik realized that Dempsey was trying yet again to caution him. Looking at Daniel, Tarik wondered why his friend would be worried. If this Daniel was pure hearted, then the man should be glad that he considered him an equal. The Medjai only dealt with formality from those who were above or below them. Tarik thought Dempsey understood that he had just tested Daniel to see how he viewed people.
Tarik saw, that at least Daniel could look a Medjai in the eyes without blinking. Tarik’s eyes spoke volumes of what was in his soul.
Wizards for the most part remained untrustworthy to Tarik. Dempsey had been one of first wizards that he trusted, and with good reason. Now his friend was asking him to risk everything to help this wizard. Tarik narrowed his eyes, he wanted this man to see his reserve, I am not here for you or your group. I am here because Dempsey asked and he is one of very few wizards, I call friend.
Tarik knew that the man could probably curse him, but Dempsey had already made a bad choice with Dahana. I am not about to let another wizard betray him, Tarik thoughts reflected in his eyes like venom.
So you suggested me., Tarik thought as he smiled. Dempsey had not even told Dahana about him. Why do you trust this wizard so much?
Tarik did not like the fact that Dempsey called this wizard Sir, as in Egypt it was only said to a person’s master. Narrowing his eyes even more he thought, Dempsey is nobody’s slave. This wizard was showing Tarik two sides with how he related to people. Tarik hoped that the wizard’s words would give him a better feel for the man.
Looking at Daniel, Tarik realized the man was indeed sending him a message as he had not turned away. Wanting him to understand that Tarik was not one to play, he said sharply, “Dempsey knows my skills. I am not here to play games, but to see if you are worthy of my help.” Tarik held a nonchalant expression for he was not impressed, and if Daniel expected, respect, then he had to earn it the same as Dempsey. Thinking, So far all I see, is a wizard very much like those that thought they could take what was not theirs. Immediately he realized that he in fact just judged this Daniel on what others had done to his people.
Dempsey keeps telling me that there are some that want to change things for the better, Tarik reminded himself, though he had only met a few that had shown him a different side to this wizarding world.
Tarik still could not understand what Dempsey saw in this man, because all he saw was a snake that could strike at any time. Turning to Dempsey, Tarik lowered one brow revealing his doubts about this wizard. If I am to give ancient secrets away, I have to be sure that they are going to help not hurt humanity. If I give this wizard information that the gods don’t want him to have, it will be all of us paying the price., Tarik thought as he began to wonder if he would ever fully trust the wizard as Dempsey appeared to.
“Yes, I do. I also remembered that, that wizard deserved the words I gave him. The man was in the wrong. No man deserves to be called worthless. So his son was a squib, that still did not give that wizard any right to beat the boy half to death,” Tarik spoke with viscous honesty. Though years ago that whole experience still left a bad taste in his mouth. He remembered vividly, as they were escaping, Dempsey had asked Tarik when he was going to learn not to tell high officials what he thought of their dual nature. Tarik figured that Dempsey was trying to remind him to use tact with Daniel, but why? Tarik saw no reason if what Dempsey told him was true about this Daniel. “And what, my brother, does that have to do with now? If this wizard’s purpose is just, then he will get his answers, if not…” Tarik shrugged and did not finish as he knew that Dempsey would understand.
Tarik realized that Daniel was talking but Tarik’s mind was elsewhere. He was beginning to worry again about the young Andreas girl. This meet was taking too long. Looking at Dempsey he said, “Dempsey, I hope you are right concerning the other matter? I did not like leaving that matter unattended and in the hands of fools.” Tarik would not be so worried if he knew who was protecting the girl, when he wasn’t. The thing was none of the protectors knew of him and vise a verse.
Realizing what Daniel had said, Tarik answered, “Yes, This is already taking longer than I expected.”
Once Tarik saw the runes and decided this wizard’s character, he would need to fully concentrate on the task at hand. Looking at Dempsey, Tarik wondered if there was anything that Dempsey could say that would make him stop worrying about Tia so much. Dahana better not get to that girl while I am here. Tarik needed to focus or else, he would fail both. He always knew that his skills required a lot of mental concentration. That was why, he usually only did one job at a time. This is the first time, that I have had multiple assignments.
Tarik had only known a few things about Joseph but it was enough to make him realize that Joseph was one man Tarik did not want to make mad. Tarik had learned long ago that wizards that don’t speak much are the ones that you don’t want to cross.
Dempsey Aidan McBurr
Dempsey held his calm expression, but his thoughts began run, here we go. Tarik you know this is not the time nor the place, but... it never was. Dempsey fought a slight smirk and held his demeanor. He knew Tarik well enough that this was just his way. Good thing he had informed Daniel of how Tarik could be, before bringing him to the isle. Get your thoughts in order my friend, you need to focus on the matter at hand, Dempsey thought.
What a way to recall that story, Dempsey thought. There was much more too it than that, but for time sake, he could understand the short version being mentioned.
And there it was cut and dry, but Dempsey believed Daniel's reasons to be just. Or else he would have never invited Tarik to meet with him. Worry crept into Dempsey's mind about how Daniel would react even though Dempsey already informed him of Tarik's abrupt nature. Still he knew Daniel was not patient with rudeness, or blunt disregard for respect. Considering this was Seven headquarters, Tarik had nowhere to go. That though should speak volumes for Tarik, he's got heart, and a ridged backbone. He apparently did not fear death, as Dempsey recalled many who would cower before the mere presence of Daniel.
Dempsey lifted his hand to usher Tarik forward. At this point, all that mattered was what they came for.
It was not like they could summon an apperation and just leave. Even if they could, where on Earth would they go? Besides, Dempsey was the only one of the two of them that could summon the transport, and he was not going against the Seven, not now. If Tarik's stubbornness got him into trouble, it would fall on his shoulders. He had warned him before hand. He explained everything that Tarik could expect. Now, it lay on his shoulders.
Dempsey cracked a grin at this comment. It seemed appropriate considering the timing and all. “Worry not my friend, there are many who have watched over the child before you arrived. They have not ceased while you were there, and shall not while you are on... hiatus.” Focus Tarik, we are far from Hogwarts, get your thoughts in order. Practice focus. Dempsey thought. Dempsey knew full well what Tarik was concerned with. Dahana would not strike now, but even if he did, there was plenty of Wizards ready to handle that problem.
That brought up another problem all together. Dempsey could not let Seth or any other Aurors question Dahana. Where is Fai? Dempsey thought then considered for a moment. “Sir, have you seen our Chinese assistant?” Dempsey did not dare name him in front of Tarik. “I have a request of him, if that is okay with you of course?” he asked with respect and caution.
Daniel Marsden
Tarik was a bit disrespectful to the Seven, to say the least, and his conversing with Dempsey back and forth was costing valuable time. It was a sign of how much Daniel wanted his help that he allowed all this to take place; Daniel probably wasted as much as 10 seconds of time every couple of years, and even his own followers got severely punished for the slightest sign of disrespect (the most notable case being Desmond Doddridge). He kept his demeanor calm and kind, however, and did nothing to overly upset neither Tarik nor Dempsey. It was important to get this translator on his side.
"I assure you, my new friend, no one is more deserving of your help than myself and the associates I brought here. I am just a visionary, trying to make our world into a better place. I am allowing myself to be used for a wonderful cause. A place that we'll all be happy to call 'home.' But to continue our evolution, I think it's vitally important that we learn how our evolution first started. These runes that I've asked you to take a look at hold a key to our origin. It's important that we study them so as to better understand our place in the universe. A very wise witch once said 'Wit beyond measure is man's greatest treasure.' I live by those words. Correct me if I'm wrong, Tarik, but I believe your people follow a similar teaching? Your people appreciate knowledge and wisdom just as much as I do, I think." Daniel smiled, feeling that he had made a convincing argument for his side. It was now Tarik's move, though he could do with a little more pushing.
"Tarik, McBurr, if you please, I must insist that we make our way to the runes so we can get started. Time is very important these days. Once we've had a look, I can offer my assistance on 'the other matter' that you speak of, as I have many resources available to me. We can discuss what I can help you with, and you," he added, looking at Dempsey, "can send a message to our Chinese friend, if you wish."
Tarik Sadiki
Tarik watched for any sign that Dempsey could have been wrong about this Daniel. If Candance had been right about this Seven group and there leader, then Tarik pushing would hopefully show this to Dempsey. Tarik had so far seen no signs of this. Looking at Dempsey, Tarik smiled.
Tarik was sure Dempsey knew what was coming. This was a far longer test then any, Tarik had given. He wondered if Dempsey was even slightly worried that Daniel would fail. Was that why Dempsey keep trying to get him to stop. Tarik did not want to question his blood-brother's choices in friends but the young Auror had indeed gotten him to doubt what this group was about.
Tarik realized that this wizard believed that he spoke the truth. There was no sign that he was anything but what Dempsey claimed. So why am I still looking for what is not there? Because Candance said that this group are as deadly as my brother Khalid., Tarik thought as he gave Dempsey a look of if this doesn't do it nothing will. Tarik had to see this through. Most men when faced with the truth could not keep a false facade.
Tarik smiled as Daniel had picked his last test himself, " If you know of my people", Tarik began as he looked sharply at Dempsey, "Then you know we don't take the word friend lightly. I have heard some stuff about you that has given me cause for concern. I want to know if what I have heard is true. Are you a Visionary or this Killer that the Aurors hunt you for?"
Tarik let that sink in before answering this man's question, " You have been schooled pretty well in what the Medjai are about. Though I wonder where you have gotten your information. Dempsey also has said that we have a lot in common and that you are just misunderstood. You say a lot for your true character, when you quote Ravenclaw. She was a witch who held a high regard for the Medjai way of life. We had a princess similar named Menka."
Tarik waited knowing that either Daniel would pass or fail with his own words. Menka was the Medjai greatest princess and dated back to the 1st dynasty. Her murder was why the Medjai didn't trust wizards fully anymore.
Tarik looked at Dempsey as he said honestly, "So if these other protectors are not fools, then why did you ask me to watch her? You gave the impression that they were not able to pare where this girl was concerned." He knew Dempsey was trying to just get him to stop worry about Tia and focus on what needed to be done.
Tarik wondered why Daniel would offer assistance in the matter of Tia. Tarik had decided to just get a look at the runes that this man wanted translated. Then he would check on the Andreas girl and start the paper work to get his niece Miranda in his care fully.
Turning to Daniel, Tarik said having a little more respect for this wizard, "After I see the runes, you and I will definitely talk, Daniel."
Dempsey Aidan McBurr
Dempsey was put back by Tarik's bluntness. He knew his friend quite well but this was taking it a bit far. “I believe the ends justify the means. The Medjai are not innocent of blood, and I assure you the ministry is drenched. I would know. However your tests of heart are forever challenging whomever you meet. At least here and now we know the path that is laid before us. One of freedom from oppression, of change, and open relations. Not a group of elitist deciding how each and every Wizard ought to act, and where to work but allowing us to seek our own path. Would not the Medjai find this a better way? Through the reading of the runes you can unlock a freedom for all mankind. Not just the elite.”
Dempsey shrugged.
Dempsey nodded.
Finally, Dempsey thought. Good thing he advised Danial of Tarik's tests. Though this had taken far to long.

"I hope you told him about me having no interested in joining his group. I am here to help you that is all." Tarik whispered.

Dempsey cracked a sly grin, “How many people do you think know I come here?”
"Daniel knows that you have great skill and knowledge in understanding how to translate ancient writings. He has not expressed any intrest in inducting you into the Seven with me. Though you might know that you are not free to wonder about. Only specific members are here awaiting your arrival. You are my friend, so take this warnig to heart. I will meet you at the runes in question later. But first I will wait for Daniel to properly introduce you.”
Without smiling, he exchanged looks with Dempsey before turning to Tarik. "Welcome to the Dojo, Professor Sadiki."

Without smiling, he exchanged looks with Dempsey before turning to Tarik. "Welcome to the Dojo, Professor Sadiki." Daniel welcomed him.
Giving a curt nod Dempsey turned his attention to Tarik. No words spoken just a calm change of attention.
"I would rather not know what this place is called. Also not even my students call me Professor Sadiki. It is Tarik. Now what was so important about these Runes, that I had to risk coming here on Christmas break?"

Shall we?"

Daniel's eyes remained on Tarik. Though his smile remained on his face, it did grow a little smaller when Tarik was less than perfectly respectful.
“Regardless,” Dempsey began, shaking off the statement.
He knew Tarik too well, as well as Daniel and wished to simply avoid any discrepancies.
Turning his attention back to Daniel he proceeded. “Tarik is a man I have trusted with my life, on more than one occasion.”
As are you, my brother., Tarik thought as he wondered how long it would be before this Daniel spoke.
With a slight smile to the side of his mouth and a tilt to his head Dempsey continued. “If I did not trust this man, I would never have suggested him.”

With a slight smile to the side of his mouth and a tilt to his head Dempsey continued. “If I did not trust this man, I would never have suggested him.”
So you suggested me., Tarik thought as he smiled. Dempsey had not even told Dahana about him. Why do you trust this wizard so much?
“Sir," Dempsey nodded toward Daniel, "I would not bring trouble here, he is just... picky... or shall I say cautious. If you wish,” Dempsey shrugged slightly. “Shall we continue this conversation inside, within a cooler temperature.”
"Do not worry, McBurr," said Daniel calmly, his eyes not leaving Tarik. "If your friend is as talented as you boast, then I'm more than willing to overlook his distinct manners." He smiled at the both of them.
Already the humidity and heat of the jungle started to show on his collar. Daniel was a man he trusted, or he would have never suggested in bringing Tarik.
“Do you remember Iran, my old friend?” Dempsey smiled as he inquired of Tarik.
"Yes, I believe somewhere indoors would suffice nicely. It takes time to grow accustomed to this island's weather. Devon!" he addressed one of his men curtly, "we'll be up ahead. Bring us some refreshments. Something liquid."
Daniel turned back to Dempsey and Tarik as the man named Devon disapparated. "I just came from a small facility, a little ways into the jungle. We can conduct our business there. Shall we?"
Dempsey said that I needed the practice. But if I am not careful, I could fail. Tarik had thought that getting Dahana would be easy, the man was a fool. Protecting Tia had become difficult, due to the girl’s own way of handling things. Finding my brother is nearly impossible, as it seemed Khalid had dropped off the face of the Earth. I have not even seen the runes yet and this Daniel was a puzzle that I have yet to solve. To top it off I have to make sure that the Headmaster never finds out I was even here.
Tarik had only known a few things about Joseph but it was enough to make him realize that Joseph was one man Tarik did not want to make mad. Tarik had learned long ago that wizards that don’t speak much are the ones that you don’t want to cross.
Dempsey Aidan McBurr
“Dempsey knows my skills. I am not here to play games, but to see if you are worthy of my help.”
“Yes, I do. I also remembered that, that wizard deserved the words I gave him. The man was in the wrong. No man deserves to be called worthless. So his son was a squib, that still did not give that wizard any right to beat the boy half to death,”
What a way to recall that story, Dempsey thought. There was much more too it than that, but for time sake, he could understand the short version being mentioned.
“And what, my brother, does that have to do with now? If this wizard’s purpose is just, then he will get his answers, if not…”
And there it was cut and dry, but Dempsey believed Daniel's reasons to be just.
“Dempsey, I hope you are right concerning the other matter? I did not like leaving that matter unattended and in the hands of fools.”

He kept his demeanor calm and kind, however, and did nothing to overly upset neither Tarik nor Dempsey. It was important to get this translator on his side.
Dempsey lifted his hand to usher Tarik forward. At this point, all that mattered was what they came for.
"I assure you, my new friend, no one is more deserving of your help than myself and the associates I brought here. I am just a visionary, trying to make our world into a better place. Daniel smiled, feeling that he had made a convincing argument for his side. It was now Tarik's move, though he could do with a little more pushing.
Dempsey cracked a grin at this comment. It seemed appropriate considering the timing and all. “Worry not my friend, there are many who have watched over the child before you arrived. They have not ceased while you were there, and shall not while you are on... hiatus.”

Turning to Daniel, Tarik said having a little more respect for this wizard, "After I see the runes, you and I will definitely talk, Daniel."
Finally, Dempsey thought. Good thing he advised Danial of Tarik's tests. Though this had taken far to long.
