Synopsis of Door to Destiny and two posts.
(OOC: The main part of this thread has been lost so we have presented a synopsis of what happened so the thread may be referenced later. Two posts have been included)
Luke had just left Starling and Danny to carry Desmond to the hospital, because of the beating he had taken. Rufus had used him to bring a message to Luke, to turn over the Medallion and any other information he had. Luke had yelled into the air, knowing Rufus who was hiding in the edge of the Forbidden Forest, using an invisible cloak, would be able to hear him, that he would only deliver the medallion to Shadow.
With Starling and Danny he had sent a piece of paper holding a description of what was on the medallion to Tarik and the rest of the Core. When Starling had kissed him on the cheek to wish him luck, he had whispered in her ear, to bring Tarik and the Core to the Shrieking Shack as soon as she could.
Now he was heading there using the underground tunnel which started at the Great Tree and led to a door to what was once the kitchen of the deserted shack. Before he got to the door to the shack he had stopped and hid the medallion in a special hole, which had been purposely put there so any member of the Core could stow something away safely. Anyone else trying to get in would receive a true injury to their hand.\\
When he reached the Shack, he slowly made his way upstairs. He had made arrangements to meet Brennan, his older cousin and head of security at Hogwarts. The atmosphere did not feel right, so he took out his wand and entered an upstairs room where he was disarmed, by Shadow who was waiting. Brennan was tied up on the floor, and had been stripped of his clothing except for his jockey shorts. He was out cold.
Shadow asked Luke for the medallion and Luke refused to give it to him. Shadow tried to convince Luke he should just hand it over by using the Cruitus curse on Brennan twice, cause the young Hit Wizard to wither on the floor and forcing his bonds to bight into his skin.
Shadow had evern tried to change tactics and convince Luke they needed to be friends, because he could give the boy power. Luke refused and made his capture realize he would never join forces. Brennan was cut deeply once on the shoulder and once on the leg, but Luke still did not give in to Shadow’s demands.
During this exchange of words, Luke had slowly started to work his way across the room to where Brennan was. Finally figuring he was close enough he quickly had bent down and tried to untie his cousin. The Shadow magically threw Luke ten feet across the room and slammed him into a wall saying, with venom in his voice, “Don’t…..Do…..That….Again” Luke then suffered the Cruitus Curse and was used as a human yoyo between the ceiling and the floor, both of which he had been slammed into multiple times. At one point, Brennan had the tape removed over his mouth, by Shadow, so he could tell Luke to give Shadow the medallion because no one’s life was worth it.

Actual Post by Luke
Valentine sighed. "Well, we all do what we must in order to accomplish our goals. I did what I had to do with Tia. Nothing more, nothing less. If she hadn't been so stubborn, than perhaps this would all be over right now. In fact, if you'd like to pass a message on to her? Every death by my hand since she was born has been her fault. And her fault alone."
Luke shook his head as he heard what Shadow said about Tia. When Shadow tried to blame Tia for what had been happening, Luke saw his cousin get furious. Brennan was fighting against his bonds. Luke knew that something Shadow had said had struck a chord with the Hit Wizard.
The Ravenclaw was furious as well though he tried not to show it as he responded,“Haven't you heard me Shadow? You are not getting near her again! So there is no message to give. She did not ask to be a target.
What you have done is your doing, not Tia's! Taking her memories was low, even for you. We will help her remember and then you're Finished, Shadow!”
Luke knew that Landon hardly ever left her side since the first week of term. Shadow was just trying to scare him. There was no way Shadow could have gotten to Tia again. Luke at least hoped not as the Core had seen the change that had come over their leader since the beginning of last term. Tia had become more withdrawn and panicky. Luke had to give her credit as she tried to hide it. Only those that knew her well could tell that her self-confidence had been affected.
Glaring at Shadow, Luke wondered what the Dark Wizard had done to her those two days. Whatever it had been, it had changed their leader and The Core had made a pact that Shadow would not get a chance at Tia again, for they were terrified of the result if he did.
He laughed. "A Wizard's Duel? Those things are anything but fair! Stand on opposite ends of the room and take turns shooting spells at each other? What a load of crap. Any wizard would prefer to hit his enemy unseen and without resistance. Ask Brennan. You're a Hit Wizard, aren't you? You would never let your target know you were there. Never."
Luke was still feeling the excruciating pain from his back hitting the wall. He barely heard Shadow's response. What he had heard had him furious, though Luke did his best to hide it. The fourth year said, “Then you don't know my cousin very well. He is a Hit Wizard not an assassin. He brings them in to stand trial if he can.” Luke was about to say more but realized that Shadow could and would use it against Brennan later. His cousin was sometime too honorable. Bren always announced his arrival to his target. It was the reason at least in Luke's mind that Bren had never became an Auror.
"But surely you can tell Luke that these wounds and hers are not the same. These are your basic rips. Your rends of the flesh where hers is so much more than that. No, he has less time than you think. And you're squandering it away for what? So you can berate me a little longer?"
Luke heard what Shadow had said about the differences between Tia's scar and Bren's wounds. Thinking as quickly as his painful back would let him, Luke realized that just maybe he could learn something that would help deal with that scar on Tia's leg.
Giving a questioning look as he said, “Well no, all I know is that Tia's scar keeps opening up. How am I supposed to know that when Brennan's heals up, his won't do the same? For all I know you used the same spell. Just with Tia, you attacked a two year old!”
Shadow had already admitted that he was responsible for Tia's scar. That info a few wizards would be interested in. Luke smiled as he realized that maybe this meeting with Shadow was not a bust after all. In fact, it was very informative.
Valentine smiled at his outburst. "Ding, ding, ding. Found a winner! Oh Luke my boy, it's gonna be a very, very long time until you see your sister again, if ever. But it can help to give me what I want. The medallion! Now!"
Luke cringed as Brennan's fear was confirmed. He was scared for his sister but tried not to show it. Luke said with venom in his voice, “You think I am stupid, Shadow? I am a Claw! My sister could already be dead, which is why that medallion is in a nice, safe place. A place only a few people can even see, let alone get into.”
Sure Luke wanted to believe that his twin was still alive but the locket and note had scared him. Either the note referred to Ashley or their parents. If it was his parents then Brennan or Seth would get custody. If it was Ash that had been killed, he would make sure Shadow paid.
(Talking about the way Rufus does things) "Look, I like to leave my orders up for interpretation. It allows me to see how they work with no oversight or at least none that they can see. It allows me to see if they are clever or if they can be trusted. Surely you understand the value of those who can think of their own free will. As for going to the Headmistress? Do it. They don't throw kids in Azkaban and they certainly don't have anything on him. I've made sure of that."
Luke realized that Shadow believed that Rufus was untouchable. He was about to hopefully put a little fear in his mind. Cracking a grin as he said, “Rufus doesn't know that. Plus if you don't deal with him, the Core will insure that the Deputy Headmistress knows about Rufus and his cloak, plus the other things that we have recorded. Shadow, leash him or risk him being useless to you! One more attack on a non-Allies and The Core will see to it that Rufus is at the least expelled!”
Valentine stood up and with Luke's wand, lifted Brennan into the air. He pointed his wand at Luke and said, "Lead away. To the medallion. As for our little chat, well we'll continue it another time. In front of me, now."
Luke's body was in excruciating pain as he watched Brennan being lifted into the air with his wand. Trying to help Bren, Luke said, “You don't need to bring Brennan. Heal his wounds and leave him here. He is in no condition to do anything.”
When Shadow talked about continuing their chat another time, Luke inwardly cringed. The group was not due for at least another ten minutes. The wand pointed at him, Luke realized that he could stall no longer.
As he slowly and painfully got to his feet, Luke said cocky, “I doubt that I will be answering any more of your requests, Shadow. So why not just talk now?” He only needed to stall another ten minutes and Shadow would be facing a man that really didn't need a wand. If they walked slow enough.
Realizing how best to stall, Luke got in front of Shadow and prayed that Tarik would be coming in through the tree entrance with maybe a few adults.
He paused. "Oh and before we go, where is it so I don't get led into a trap. Tell me before we leave."
Having a wand at his sore back made Luke cringed. He said, “Is the Core that dangerous? It is good to know that we have got you scared Shadow!”
After a few moments, Luke continued, “But since you asked so nice, it is in the passage. In a hole that only Core can reach into. Though I would love to see you try!” Luke knew that if Shadow reached into the hole in the wall, he would still be there when Tarik came. Darik had set it up for things that the Core had to keep safe.
(Continuation of Synopsis)
When they had reached the spot where the medallion compartment was in the wall of the tunnel, Luke stilled tried one last time to fight Shadow, but Shadow slammed Brennan to the floor. Brennan was now unconscious and his paleness scared Luke. Using Luke’s wand Shadow slammed him against the wall and threatened to cut off his hand if he did not hand over the necklace. Luke gave in. Retrieved the necklace and handed it to Shadow.
While handing the medallion over Luke tried one more time to find out some information . He asked a couple of questions: One if his sister Ash had not been killed than who? Shadow had only answered with a question of his own when he asked when was the last time Luke had talked with his parents. The second question was why The Core had been targeted, which Shadow did not give a definitive answered to. What answer he did give was given only after the medallion was checked by Shadow for authintisity and put away.
Later Luke would remember what had happened after he had given Shadow the medallion and before he passed out.
This only brought back a flood of memories. Tears formed in his eyes and a few even fell down his cheek as he remembered what Shadow had said and did after Luke had given him the Medallion," Shadow had just smiled and hadn't said anything for a while. Instead, he seemed to have been studying the medallion in his hands. It was unscratched and mostly polished. He put it in his inside pocket of his cloak and looked to Luke and had said, "Well, Luke, I must thank you for providing me with such nice entertainment. It's not often that I get to have this much fun. So, I'm going to take Brennan and go now. It was nice chatting with you. We should do it again sometime."
Shadow had left Luke in the tunnel slumped against the wall and on the floor. The Ravenclaw had been on the verge of blacking out. Then the dark wizard had appeared back in the tunnel saying, "Oh silly me. You don't want to lay in the tunnel. Let me help you into the next room." With a flick of his wand Luke had been thrown from the tunnel into the next room, landing flat on his back. Shadow walked over and laid my wand just out of arm's reach from me on the floor. He also dug into my pockets for the locket that I had received from Desmond. Luke felt just as terrified remembering as he had then.
He had watched as Shadow had opened the locket and looked at the pictures inside, then he'd broken it into 2 pieces. He laid the side with him and his twin on Luke's chest and put the other half with our parents in his pocket. Then He had whispered into Luke's ear, "When this locket it made whole again, that is when you will see me next. Probably for the last time too. Good bye Luke. Say hello to Star for me."

Darik
Tarik listened to Star. After she finished the Medjai looked to Danny. Instead of speaking Danny handed two papers. Taking a quick look at the papers, Tarik nodded as he saw the etching.
Tarik whistled to what seemed like the air and then after he shrunk the papers he placed them in a cylinder attached to Horus. Pointing to Horus and then to the falcon's door, Tarik whistled a unique tune. Darik would check out things and report back. He had only added one word to the paper. That word was "Shack".
Darik had been walking around town trying to collect information others had been getting from visitors, when Horus, Master Tarik’s falcon landed on a nearby fence post. The bird picked up his one claw and held it out to Darik. After removing the papers from the canister, Darik reached into his pants pocket and retrieved a snack for the falcon.
“Hold on a moment, my friend and let me see if I have an answer.” Enlarging the scrap to what Darik figured was approximately its normal size; he unfolded it and read the missive. Turning the paper over he wrote, “On my way, will report.”Shrinking it, he placed it back in the canister and pointed in the direction of the school. Horus would only return to Master Tarik.
Darik then set off in a trot to the Shrinking Shack, making sure he would be approaching it on one of the sides which only had a very small window on the bottom floor. Putting a sound buffing spell on the window, he slowly slid it up and entered the shack. Stretching his hand out in front of him, fingers spread, palm down he headed toward the back room. It was at one time a very small kitchen area, and also contained the entrance to the tunnel which came out under the tree at Hogwarts. He would check out the tunnel first, because it would be the most likely place someone would be. Master Luke would have used the secret compartment to hide anything there also.
Listening at the open door to the room, he at first did not hear anything, but as he entered he heard a thud and then a moan. Moving quicker, Darik headed toward the door to the underground tunnel, almost tripping over Master Luke’s crumpled body lying on the floor. Standing close to the body he made a sweep of the room and put a blocking spell on the entrance to the tunnel. It would not keep a good wizard out, but it would give him some warning if someone tried to enter.
Kneeling down beside Master Luke he gently laid the young master on his back, checking for broken bones as he did. Master Luke had passed out and he was breathing shallowly. Darik thought of traveling directly to the school, but was not sure if Master Tarik wanted everyone there to know what had happened, so he put his hands on Master Luke’s chest and evaporated to just outside the tunnel entrance near the Great Tree. Far enough away from the tree, so it would not take offence but close enough so they were protected by the small hill which lead to the field near the school. They would be protected here until someone came. Carefully, Darik warmed the grass area before laying Master Luke down. He placed a bubble around the injured master to keep him warm and out of the cool breeze which was starting to pick up.
Darik walked to the top of the small hill and looked at the school. Whistling a special signal, he sent for Horus. When the bird arrived he put a note in the small canister on Horus’ leg and sent the bird to the school. The entire note said was, “Have Master Luke, tree entrance, needs medic.” Now he had to wait.
